Hey Howard. Want to say thanks for this instructional stuff. I trained years ago on acrylics and had a long time out before coming back in a home restorer capacity. Moving into the new products has been a real challenge. I think I might, and only might, be starting to understand it! Proper minefield. Many thanks!

Hi Howard, she's coming along great. I especially love that satin clear work over those mechanical bits. That's something I'd definitely be doing. I'd love to see you do a video on how you constructed your spray booth going through all the aspects that make it functional. Would that be something you could do eventually ? I have a space similar to what you have and would like to covert it to be able to do spray work in it so I keep the main shed clean. Thanks and Regards Tony

@@AstillDesign It is beyond belief that products sold in Canada, USA or Australia are not available to each other. Spending 4 decades fixing vehicles, mostly dealers, I end my career teaching, holding 4hr tech seminars and defective parts returned to distributors for ACDelco, the cause is each government. Why? It is up to manufacturers to provide technical, documents, product proof of performance and a bus load of lawyers. No wonder the price of simple things keep going up in price. You are in business to make a living while paying for 9 different insurance policies, permits, equipment, etc. Like an alignment machine! It is out of date two weeks after you train a tech & learn how to use it. God bless and have a lucky one!

Thanks for posting this type of video Howard, it’s all starting to make more sense! I had a chassis blasted and etched primed however I learnt this isn’t the way after sitting around, started rusting again quickly through the grey etch. Thinking next time straight to epoxy?

Any gloss reduced work I've done over the years I swear by PPG 579 Caprithane. Can be full gloss also taken down to a shade under 10% gloss level which is basically Matt. It's a binder system already as opposed to adding a Matting agent after the fact. Also DNA I must admit have a great Matt clear coat. Alas very expensive but beautiful to spray.

I have to say for all my years of painting part time and I thought. Had some idea what I was doing, I think I have just been lucky I have been using ppg for many years now and always read the data sheets before I start mainly just to remind myself what to do From this you can tell I don’t paint so much these days but it is all I really want to do I only have one spray gun which was from Repco and was a Christmas present from my daughter and son in law about 5 years ago I have no idea what the jet size is Generally I strip back to bare metal and then etch prime then epoxy prime over that which I sand and then I may prime again and sand and then. I will do the wet on wet prime base and clear I wish I could tell you what series the paint is but I can’t and it’s down in the shed and I’m up in the house and it’s not ten degrees outside I will have to bring up the data sheets so for the next video I can see if it is similar to what you are using Cheers Howard
@AstillDesign
@AstillDesign 11 месяцев назад
Your not on your own, back in the early days I only had the one gun. The process has been finetuned to a point where the labour saving is the focus so better tools and products to get the same results with less hours. Its good that you are keen to learn, Cheers H

Hey Howard, is your spray booth home made or purchased. It looks like it has great suction. The booth doesn't seem to get overwhelmed with fumes/vapour. May e you could do a walk around the booth and how its put together if its home made. Loving the videos.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I want to ask is there 1 spray gun that will do it all? from epoxy primer, high fill primer, base coat and clear coat? thank you.
@AstillDesign

You can have one gun with 2 nozzle sets. a 1.4mm for base and clear coat plus a 1.8mm nozzle set for primers epoxy etc.

@@AstillDesign what gun would you recommend for someone spraying at home? Thank you
@AstillDesign
@AstillDesign 11 месяцев назад
If your looking at a quaility gun then a good mid range all rounder is the SATA 1500 BRP sol 1.3mm, get a 2mm nozzle set and that will do everything you need from hibuild to Clear. If you have the budget get a primer gun Satajet 100 B RP Primer Gun 2.0mm and a SATA 1500 or go all the way to a digital Satajet X 5500 RP Digital 1.3mm Cheers H

Is it possible to paint a base colour directly over an epoxy primer? I’m doing hanging panels and the under side of the bonnet and boot don’t need any filler work so could in theory go to paint stage now? Or do they need a thin primer and scuff back?
