Because everyone knows when there's a guitar solo in the middle of a song the whole band full stops to let the guitar play alone, right?

In some songs there are two solos on top of each other, I'd still consider them solos.

if its a written solo with accompaniment its called a soli, if its improvised/personally expressive/flashy its called a cadenza. playing completely alone is called a directive solo. soli's and cadenzas can be directive. solo is a broad modern term for any of them. keith is directive cadenza dave and vinnie are cadenza, with vinnie's being a cadenza with vamp (also common in most rock guitar solos) peter is directive soli, essentially keeping time alone. hope this helps, knowing specifics helps alot with efficient communication between musicians
