My nana has a really old sugar cookie recipe that she makes every year around Christmas time and they’re so good, also starting last year I started helping her make the cookies because that’s when I started getting an interest in baking

It's like she cared more about the flavour and having the experience with her grandkids, she doesn't need to be super fancy but she likes to add in a little work. Pure grandma vibes and I love her for it

I can taste the little diamonds I wish they posted the recipes. I would make them into Christmas trees or pumpkins or whatever season it is.

It also has no taste whatsoever, and is a pure example of wasteful extravagance. Chopping up dollar bills as a topping would make more sense. It also contributes no flavor, but at least more will be printed for the foreseeable future. Eating gold effectively destroys it, because people generally aren't picking it out of their poop. I immediately lost respect for the chef when I saw her decorating her cookies with gold. I don't want metal in my cookies. It doesn't taste good, and it's expensive. Sprinkles and other topping that are actual food are cheap and can be delicious. Eating gold is only done for tasteless people who want to demonstrate how they can afford to be lavishly wasteful by destroying wealth in a world where people all around them are dying of scarcity. Destroying a precious resource to no end but just because you can and being so wasteful looks fancy is sinful. I'm not saying it's like murder, but it's an advertisement of morally questionable poor judgement. And I reiterate: gold is tasteless. It has no proper place on a sugar cookie unless you're a noveau riche schmuck who wants to literally eat gold as a symbol of extravagance. Gold is so tasteless that I actually want to have a set of gold-plated flatware someday, because unlike other common metals it imparts no taste to the food. If I recall correctly, it also has a mild ogliodynamic effect, meaning it's self-cleaning by being antimicrobial in the same way silverware is.

agreed. it is a massive turnoff to see gold being used as an ingredient, especially as it adds nothing to the finished dish other than to point out that the person gains pleasure from literally wasting money.

I find it wrong that she adds it to everything. I've been the partner of an alcoholic for over fifteen years, and so I'm very aware of our society's totally unhealth habit of making booze available in everything, and everywhere. It's not right to have it in things you would never suspect it of being in, it could totally ruin an alcoholic's quest for sobriety.

Every time they do this, the food snobs come out and nitpick every deviation from the one acceptable version of the dish that their ancestors carved into stone, so I can understand why they are hesitant. Hell, Frank had to push for a paella video and half the comments were either "That's just rice with stuff" or "The level 2 is trash for using chorizo" even though it never specified Paella Valencia

Yeah I understand but they could get chefs familiar to the dish because of their culture, like I recognize a few of them that come from those regions
