Giving a quick tutorial on how we wrote and recording '4 More Days' for Blues Guitar Week.
Check out the original video:
• 4 More Days - Gracie a...
12 Bar Blues Sequence:
• Learn Every Blues Song...
Played the custom paint American Standard Telecaster through a Mesa Boogie 5:25, recording via an Audix i5 into a Universal Audio 4-710. Gracie Cespedes was recorded with a Shure Sm7B into a Universal Audio 6176 then mixed and mastered with Logic plug-ins from Native Instruments and Waves.

hey Sean! love your videos. question. I am a singer, I write songs and am going to the studio to record soon. I will use studio musicians for the recording. Question: any recommendations about preparing for the studio - what to bring etc? I am going to bring rough guide versions of the songs recorded with voice and guitar. not sure if I will be able to sing and play in time - is that a problem? or will a 'rough' guide do? I obviously want to keep the costs down too. I would love to hear what you recommend.

Great question and congrats on getting into the studio! Send me a link when you get something back. Playing to a click track is definitely something you'll want to before hand. You can save a lot of time by knowing the bpm or 'beats per minute' of your songs when you show up. Most likely they're going to all be recording to a click so that'll get things moving right away if you show up and be like 'ok this song is in C at 120bpm' or something like that. That way the musicians at the studio can just lay it down and focus on getting it to sound great. I've been in situations where artists will come in and have no clue about the tempo they want, we'll decide on something, start tracking and then realize it's lagging or rushing and have to start over, which can get expensive. There's a good chance that you might be recording your guitar and vocals in different takes, so also be able to play through your songs without singing, often times us singer-songwriters will use the lyrics as a crutch for knowing how many times a certain part repeats and have no clue to have many bars are in a certain part without singing with it. That kind of organization will really show your professionalism and impress the musicians you're working with. But most of all try and stay loose and have fun! Hope that helps!

the Cmaj7 you hit is a rearranged Am9, which is probably why it works...... sounds cool anyway regardless of the theory

Except you're leaving the A out..... I'm enjoying the videos. Helps me think more about what I play.... .....in saying that, I'm using a lot of hybrid picked double stops....can you play too many of those ?

Speaking of elephants which we weren't, I have an idea I want to run past you.... A pedal. The first pedal in your chain. It has a mute foot switch, and an in, out and tuner out jack. It has a knob with 6 positions, a level control, and 6 trim pots /screwdriver only adjustments The idea. You adjust the gain, using the trim pots for each of your 6 guitars you take to a gig, so that the output for each of them is balanced relative to the other guitars. The level gives you a bit extra across all guitars. It's always in circuit. When you change guitar, you hit mute, unplug and plug in your next guitar, reach down and turn the switch to the number corresponding to that guitar and play. ...after checking the tuning and unmuting. I play an old gold top copy and, while it produces great tone, the levels are over the top when compared to the Jap Strat copy and Kellycaster (My Michael Kelly '53 cheapie I just got) I also have a couple of others that I play occasionally, but I always have hassles getting the gain structure right. Last gig, I grabbed a clean boost / Timmy clone and used it to make up the gain. Worked a treat. What do you think Sean Daniel ??
