The first one??? I'm a historian and when I heard Najing my heart dropped. I was a bit prepared going in but hearing how he discussed it is deeply disturbing.
You've come a long way. Even from a year ago, your story telling/reading has grown in leaps and bounds! There's much more inflection in your voice now, it's wonderful.
The first story- The guy asked him if he minded if he smoked. Not sure why he didn't try, "Ugh I don't care but my dad would kill me. It's his car. Want me to pull over so you can light up?" And then roar outta there.
In Story #4, the "weird feeling" the guy got when he went to step out of his vehicle was INTUITION! We all have it. Many people believe all women have it but most guys don’t. I think both sexes have it but women tend to pay more attention to it. Intuition is actually our subconscious brain noting everything going on around us that our conscious mind literally can’t pick up. EVERYONE should pay attention to that "gut feeling" they get in certain situations. The guy in the story's subconscious brain had probably noticed movement from the two guys that were first hiding in the woods way before he noticed. His subconscious brain may have also saw the guy in the road starting to get up in his peripheral view of one of his mirrors. That’s how I understand intuition from what I’ve read and heard about it. Many make intuition seem like a 6th sense mostly women have but that’s just not the case. We ALL have it and I bet every single person reading this can remember different times where they just didn’t feel right about something in a situation and decided to forgo their initial plan. This happens in the tiniest situations all the time! The BIG ONES are what people remember the most which makes a lot of sense! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and/ or a Happy Hanukkah and are enjoying this Holiday Season! ✝️🎄🎁🕎♥️☃️🛷 Love from Texas ♥️🤠🌴
My favourite story narrator who inspired me to start narrating too. Shame I can't make the lives because I'm from England....but....love from England haha.
I have never picked up a hitchhiker, but i have hitchhiked, and yes, back in the day, it wasn't frowned upon too much but i was careful the two times i did get picked up. after all , i survived :)
MY 🎁 TO MY BUTTER SOCK FAMILY •THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO SLEEP TO JOEL’S VOICE: What I do is go over to "Playlists" and choose the one with ALL of the stories (has the highest number of stories) because the newest story is always updated on it even if it’s only been uploaded for a couple hours! I choose "Play All" then I make the new story start (always the story at the top) then I quickly pause it. Then, there’s only one choice left. You can pick 🔁 (🔃 looks like this if you flip it sideways) OR you can pick 🔀. The 1st one will play the next video in order of the newest to the oldest AND the 2nd choice will MIX the rest of the videos up to play randomly. I ALWAYS choose 🔀 so I can listen to the latest video then the rest will play randomly- ex: it will play a 3 year old video then a 6 month old video followed by a 2 year old video, and on and on! Either way the video will automatically change to the next one in line (in order OR mixed up) and after a while there’s rarely an ad then there’s no ads. Some of you may already know all this but I had to figure it all out on my own a couple years ago when I was already over 4 years into loving and listening to the Horror Narration genre every single night! I figured it all out on my own… I really wish someone would have mentioned how to do this LONG before I figured it out! I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and/ or a Happy Hanukkah and are enjoying this Holiday Season! ✝️🎄🎁🕎☃️
Hey brother I’m a podcast listener and I figured you may want to know that your most recent podcast is a little glitchy and skips around a lot on Spotify. Keep up the good work though dude you’re podcasts keep me going while I work! I’ve listened to every episode you have since I found you a couple years back!
@@LetsReadPodcast I only got about 20-30 minutes through the podcast it kept rewinding and shooting forward by about 5-15 seconds probably about 15 times or so. But I believe it happened for the first time in the first 30 seconds or so. I heard the opening theme twice I’ll try resetting it though and see if that helps and get back to you! Thanks a lot!
@@LetsReadPodcast the app reset work I guess it was some weird Spotify glitch. Thank you nonetheless though and thank you for the hours of entertainment at my boring job!
I'll Be Damned I'm From Tracy, CA and Have Family That Goes Back 6 Generations No Less. They've All Passed On Now Of Course. I Wonder What "Ronald's" Last Name Was ? Likely Hood I'd of Recognized it !
Man I did a double take at the start of that first story when they said Grapevine had only 2 gas stations, a motel and a fast food joint. Thing is they're right still if you get off AT Grapevine it's still 2 overpriced gas stations, a motel, and some fast food I forget. If you get out of THE grapevine and bout 15-20mi down the road you get to Tejon which has like 2 mini cities of fastfood/trucker stop/gas stations (one on each side of the 5) and a wholeass outlet mall
It is fun beacuse I have done both sides of hitchhiking. Nothing really crazy has happened, the worst thing I a guy wanted to sleep with my boyfriend and me and I think he assumed we couldn't refuse because we got in his car. But the guy was a smokeshow and we talked to him for over an hour and he was just a really fun guy, it was just a bonus.
@@ih783 Yeah he was hot, I am old smoke show just means hot. We just went to his hotel and had sex, he was good. It’s just after that he was going west and we needed to go north. He had to drop us off somewhere so why not just go to his hotel?
Right! 😂 Also, McDonalds didn’t get big until the very early 80’s. My Dad’s name is Ronald & three out of his six siblings have red hair. All seven were born wayyy before "Ronald McDonald" was ever even thought up. I hope you have a vey Merry Christmas and enjoy this Holiday Season! ✝️🎄🎁☃️🛷
Once, when i was about 18, I picked up a hitchhiker. He was 15! Cops left this kid on SNOQUALMIE Pass, Washington state. The only gas station for 200 miles, summit of the mountains. It was December. He was driving a car. Wasn't stolen. He was just too young to drive. We stopped for snacks, see this kid crying, he doesn't speak english. Cops are telling him "sorry about your luck". He is telling cops he need to get to Pasco, (where we live) about 200 miles away. The cops left that CHILD there. So, we tell him, hey we are going there. Mind you, im white, bf is white, we are spanglishing like its a new day in the world, because it was 5 am. This kid crawled in the back of our VW SQUAREBACK. We fed him so many little debbie snacks, bagels, and we got him REALLY STONED. 😅 This was when cell phones first came out. His calls home kept getting dropped because we were in the damn mountains. This was 25 years ago. Guess what? I'm going to his wedding next month. Xavier is a wonderful human. Not all hitchhikers are cray.
My husband and I wrecked on a snowy mountain pass at like 3am. Car was inoperable. No cell service. It was at least 5 miles back to nearest town and we didn't have winter gear like idiots. A couple was on their way back over said mountain pass (first car I remember seeing for a while) like maybe 10 min after we wrecked, stopped and gave us a ride into town to a hotel after we waved our arms and flagged them down. They at the very least saved us a horrible walk/hike back into the town, but who knows. There's large wildlife in that area, I'm a huge klutz, there wasn't a good or safe place to walk, and it was super cold.... They could've saved one or both of our lives. I felt horrible even getting in their car... WE knew we had zero bad intentions and were just stuck in a bad situation.... But these people who were on their way back from the ER and their obviously young kids waiting at home for them (based on the toys and such in the backseat) had no idea what our intentions were. Absolute angels. We have been trying to pay it forward at as many opportunities as possible.
Wow, hey fellow Tri-Citian! I’ve never once seen anyone comment something about Pasco on a RU-vid comment section before haha. It feels weird. You did a really kind thing for that kid! It’s so wholesome that you guys kept in contact after all this time! Also, those cops were nuts. Were they just gonna leave him there to freeze?? Snoqualmie is no joke in the winter.
I’m currently visiting Jamaica on vacation from NY- but I’ll still be listening to Let’s Read for my bedtime stories!! (Btw so far it has been a very beautiful country with so many kind people!)
Wow, first time I've ever heard a story from someone from my city (Handsworth) 😅 feels weird knowing exactly where the op is talking about... thank you for submitting!
Story 3: Rather than being an Alpha Male Yardie taking macho to a new level, someone that tries to kill an innocent person over something so petty and trivial is the opposite of that. Whoever he was, he was a weak, fragile coward and nothing more. Probably stayed that way too…
My first thought when Ronald pulled out something to smoke was "It's gonna be crack or something isn't it" 😂 Also that story is a great example as to why 1. Picking up strangers is a bad idea and 2. Being extremely passive doesn't always work in your favor. Last story: never stop for anyone lying in the road like that. Call 911 and keep driving. This is a super common carjacking tactic.
I love you and darkness, best scary stories ever hands down. Everyone might think I’m a weirdo for sleeping to this or just using it as background noise but that’s on them. This shiiiii soothing.😂

In the 60s when my dad was in the Army, he and some of his friends would have contests to see who could hitchhike the farthest out and back. I was born in the 70s and it was not uncommon to see hitchhikers all the time.
I listen to so many of Joel’s videos I have to go to the comments to remember if I’ve listened to it already 😅 if the top comment is familiar, then I know 😂
I picked up a hitch hiker the other day, I'm surprised he even got in, because I was driving a dirty, rusty and beat up 1980 Dodge B300 MaxiVan with no windows! Well I guess I survived!
I question the authenticity of that story. When they pulled over to get more snacks, the hitchhiker put his gun in his backpack and left it in the car, yet he said he used that for "shoplifting stores" if he got caught. Why would he leave it in the car?
That last story, set in Shreveport brought back some memories because I used to live in Shreveport years ago. I don’t miss it due to the crime rate and am not surprised the guy was almost a car jacking victim. I am glad he listened to his instinct. I am also glad I left that State and moved far away.🌷💐
Red heads look innocent but lots of them seem to have a temper!! I have a red headed son and sister. Both have nasty tempers and were really sneaky as kids. Into everything!!
This is one of the highlights of my night lol. Set the tablet up on my side of the bed, snuggle w my wife and toddler, and chill w some Lets Read. Alright Joel..... Lets Roll
Dood I totally envy you. My girls are 12 & 20 now but I have very found memories of when especially my youngest would sleep between my wife and I. Of course we didn't have Joel to mentally rock us to sleep back then like he does for me now! Anywho, thanks for the flashback and enjoy those babies, they grow fast as weeds!
"...To see if any deep seated homophobia would drive him away..." It's not "homophobic" to for a straight person to feel uncomfortable with someone of the same sex coming onto them. By that logic, a gay person feeling uncomfortable with a person of same sex coming into them is heterophobic. It might have worked, either way.
My ears pricked up with 'Handsworth in Birmingham' as that is fairly local territory to me. The story doesn't surprise me, Yardies have always been ruthless and commit violence over tiny things.
Great I really really enjoyed these stories specially the one about the hitchhiker that was great wow how lucky he was.Never pick up anyone. Keep the stories coming😯🫢❤
Getting pulled over by a guy pretending to be a cop is crazy and I feel like it’s very rare but for that to happen in England and the guy had a gun in a country where almost nobody including cops have guns is absolutely nuts
