Here I share with you 4 watch brands that make great watches but actually immediately drop in value, going into the year 2022. Below you can find a link from several yers ago where I covered other brands that drop in value. Though, some of the brands pleasantly were able to recover brand value and are doing well. The watch brands mentioned in this new video all drop value now into 2022, though I am excited to see if any of them will gain in desirability.

The people I know who own a Bremont actually wear the watch daily. Proper tool watch, very very tuff man, not a box watch that sits underneath the bed and only comes out for weddings and Funerals, these hyped watches have become trade commodities. Soulless now.

I have a Bremont Supermarine. I bought it a few months ago. It has become my daily wearer. It is incredibly readable thanks to it's size and the anti-reflective coating. I like that it came with two rubber straps. The craftsmanship is great - as good as any of my Rolex watches. It keeps great time and the case is super durable - I am hard on my watches. I thought the 43mm would be large on my 7.25" wrist, but it looks great. The only issue is the height of the watch. 16.5mm is thick. Overall I love the watch.

It is worthwhile keeping in mind that Bremont is only 20 years old. And they create amazing watches, I have 3 Bremont pieces and they’re all incredible. I do not care that they have lost relative value on the market .. because their real value is in being a fantastic companion piece.

I never know what to think of UN. From all their shark-themed stuff to the Freak to the Classico line with art that could charitably be described as cheesecake I have no idea what I am supposed to think of them and just sort of write them off as a gimmick brand.
@neilmartin7776
@neilmartin7776 2 года назад
I know what you mean. Personally I think the Freak is amazing, and I actually quite like those Classico dials (but God knows who buys them). But the Diver range is competing against Tudor's Black Bay and isn't quite as good, while the Blast range is competing against Hublot - who already have the whole "I can't afford a Royal Oak Offshore, and I lack the imagination to look at other options" market pretty much sewn up.

I have a Bremont S301, and it's a unique looking watch that's versatile on many straps. I took advantage of their pre-owned prices, and was not disappointed by the quality of the watch. I like the aesthetics of their watches, and can appreciate that the owners are actually involved in what they're selling-- aviation and automotive themed watches in which they grew up around and operated the machinery. Adding to that, if you're going to have notable people wear your watches, at least make sure they're interesting and not Lady Gaga and movie stars. Bremont has that covered IMO.

I think the general consensus on Bremont is that they make good quality watches, but price themselves out of their potential customer base. I quite like the look of their watches. The fact they don’t use “better” movements (i.e. with longer power reserves) irks me, but is not a deal breaker. I just however cannot justify to myself spending the kind of money they ask for on one of their products. I’d rather do so on an IWC or a Tudor. Having said that, I do have an MBIII which I purchased on the pre-owned market and I’m loving it. Bremont, please learn from what your fans and customers are saying. Make your pricing more realistic for the watches you make and you’ll sell a load more than you are now… and maybe your products will hold more value.
@greaterbayareahero1401
@greaterbayareahero1401 2 года назад
I also bought a Bremont but I agree they lack the fine watchmaking skill set and branding. It takes time. It depends what market they want to focus on. Ultimately in long term they need to have their own movement which can compete at the highest level. There are thousands of very good movements who don’t have the recognition like JLC, Corum, Breguet, Chopard who makes beautiful high Horology watches. Bremont will need to take a ticket and wait behind this queue.

Love Bremont, unique case design, excellent dial layouts and finishing. Sure the movement is a bit lacklustre, but 80% of the watch is assembled, finished and cased in the UK. Do people not understand the cost associated to do that?!! If you can’t afford Rolex and like the look of them, then sure go for Tudor. If you want something a bit different to what everyone else has on their wrist and in some small way be part of British watchmaking and bringing that back to the fore, then give Bremont a shot!

It may be in your examination of the market regarding Bremont that they do hold value at this time... But the watches as you have said are great build and reflect Britian. Folks knock the use of ETA top end movements and quietly forget that almost every brand has used eta as a staple movement... A matter of time - PUN - and we will see... Most people in the world are not watch people, and they buy watches as gifts that they will never sell. So in reality holding value isn’t relevant. I have a UN Michelangelo UTC and I like it so much that I sent it in for full service few months ago. Nonetheless, it is also true that UNs don't hold the value too well. Perhaps it is because their design is hardly timeless so that it gets old in a very short period of time....
@dialttante
@dialttante 2 года назад
UN is probably a cautionary example of what happens to a great and well established manufacturer with venerable history when trying to run too much after current and most recent trends. They could have used all these years to rebuild their status and brand recognition among the wider public, rather than trying to come up with designs that were as provocative and different as possible. This brought them quite a bit of publicity initially, but doesn't help in the long run: now many watch enthusiasts associate UN with early 2000's crazy extravagance and garish designs. It's a real shame, as UN really used to be one of the most significant watch manufacturers back in the day, winning observatory trials (it's record still hasn't been surpassed) and producing highly accurate marine chronometers that were used professionally. It really was up there with the likes of Omega, Universal Geneve, Heuer and Zenith.

I think the view of Bremont is harsh. Fully accept that they are a small brand but they are certainly trying to do things differently. I recently went with a friend to buy one of their watches and got a full tour of their production workshop where you could really see their craft and expertise. I'm not aware of many (any?) other places where you can have a tour around the factory? Certainly not any of the Swiss brands. The owner Nick also came to spent 15 minutes with us and you could absolutely feel his passion for what they are trying to do. I would say that they are absolutely authentic and so a bit surprised by some of the hater comments on their back story. All of that said I didn't buy a Bremont, my friend did and she loves it. But even though the watch isn't exactly for me I can fully respect and admire what they are trying to do.

I think most watch brands tank in value.. companies like watchfinder have little confidence in anything other than PP or Rolex.. anything else and they’re offering 35-40% of retail if it’s nearly new and mint. Anyone thinking of buying a particular watch would be advised to see what the trade will offer for it in a part/ ex first, I’am sure not many would end up pulling the trigger on it. As most watches are very difficult to sell privately, realistically they end up going to the trade.

I own Tag Heuer, Omega, Grand Seiko and Bremont. I've got to say the Omega Planet Ocean I have is so far out of touch in terms of quality against all the others that these Swiss watch makers ought to look at that. That said the (British made) Bremont's I have are Motorsport based and extremely wearable and super classy. The Tag Heuer Autivia flyback is in my view the exact same movement feel at the Bremont's and the Bremont's I have are all exquisitely made compared to the Autivia. The Bremont Rally Timers are sublime and I genuinely think are the best in the market for what they now are. I think with a Bremont, it's like buying a new car. Buy it because you love it, wear it as often as you want and take the hit on deprecation. People should start catching up soon with the brand and one of the ways to go is the F1 Williams endorsement and sponsorship. Price point is right for the quality of the product, but desirability is low compared to brands like Rolex and Omega. The watches I wear the most are the Bremont's.....

Not everyone can be Patek and AP and rest on their prestige. Brands such as Parmigiani need to be more forward thinking about their marketing. Most people have no idea about any of the brands mentioned. Even a lot of watch collectors have never held or have any real interest in them. Which is a shame , since each company mentioned have some decent watches. There probably needs to be a recalculation on their prices too...I think Bremont is way overpriced at retail. I think they're good watches but I quickly end up overlooking them because of it.

My thought is these brands you mentioned don’t seem to be pushing any Advertisement in the US no promotional adverts nothing … most haven’t ever heard for these names until now … they need to get more aggressive touch in the US market obviously they have small view and not a big vision of expansion..

It's not just the US market - with the exception of Bremont, at least here in the UK, I've never seen Ulysse Nardin, Corum or Parmigiani pushed widely in Europe either. With Corum and UN, it's pretty understandable - I believe Corum's primary market these days is Asia, and UN have pushed into Eastern Europe and Russia over the past decade, so maybe their focus isn't an already well established Western market. Parmigiani is a relatively young, independent watch brand - it might be that their marketing budget isn't that big.

Bremont is too artificial and pretencious. Plus way overpriced for basic ETA movements without any horological history.

I love the new UN divers. I think what's killing many companies right now with arguably superior watches, is that so many "collectors" care less about loving a watch and more about value retention and appreciation.

UN is an awesome brand. I still say dream about the time I tried on a Freak

I know Bremont makes high quality watches. But I'd go for a Ch. Ward before a Bremont. I just like the designs offered by Ch. Ward.

Because I love the Bremont designs, unlike most of the models from the brands you mentioned.

I don’t disagree, but the fact you would go for a CW over a Bremont says it all regarding the prices Bremont are asking. Even the most expensive CW is half the price of a Bremont!
@PhilOrmsby
@PhilOrmsby 2 года назад
@@AudioFlat to say that CW offers the same quality as Bremont is laughable. I have 5 CWs currently (have owned 13 over the years) and have 5 Bremonts. I can tell you that the Bremonts are MILES ahead in quality. You get what you pay for. Also, your pricing assertion is wrong too. The most expensive CWs are now well over 3 grand, which takes you into Bremont HMAF territory. I'd still take the entry level Broadsword or an Airco over the CW.

@@PhilOrmsby, well if you check again you will see didn’t say that CW offers the same quality as Bremont; I was responding to a previous comment that compared the two brands. Also, I have since checked on Bremont pricing and whilst it is technically true that the most expensive CW is priced similarly to the cheapest Bremont the majority of Bremont are at least double, but more often triple, or quadruple, the price.

I think any collector who develops an appreciation for avant garde horology needs a Freak in his collection

I was lucky enough to try on a freak for my channel but I don’t have the cash to own one. Such an amazing watch.

For me I find Bremont marketing is a bit too ‘cheesy’ and obvious; I also find there is an element of smoke and mirrors to it. Couple that with their (over) pricing then they are bound to lose money quickly.

I buy for legacy not investment. The drop in perceived monetary value has no place on my scorecard.
