I have used probably every daw that you can find and reaper is THE best one from my point of view. I really dont like limitations with other daws(number of: tracks, sends, plugins per track, midi instruments, etc... Also i dont like opening mono track for mono, stereo for stereo or midi for midi, aux for aux, group, folder, vca... Etc. In reaper you just create track and it can be anything you want or even multiple different tracks in one track. Customizable AF. Unlimited amount of tutorials. Light on computer. Unbelievable community. Often updates. FREE😍 (with no limitations (or you can buy it for business i think is like 200$ and thats still nothing compared to others))

I have been using Reaper for a couple of years now and as a person who hates learning new technologies Reaper was the only DAW that I tried that I could at least figure out how to record with fairly early on. One of the great things about Reaper that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments is that you get free updates and upgrades and they come extremely frequently. This is a very classy product and the videos available on line are extensive and very well done. I am learning new stuff every day on it and it has been one very reliable puppie indeed.

I have had Reaper form 13 years, it is fine for a low budget. However mostly using Nuendo now. Having Melodyne and Spectral layers 8, as ARA plugins, Reaper looks more like a digital tape machine. It’s cheap yes, but most Reaper fanboys has rally no clue what that are missing out.

I’ve been using Reaper since V4. Love it. The region render matrix is amazing. For several years every Sunday I multitrack recorded our House of Worship service. At end of service, quickly mark start and end of every song, create regions, then in the render matrix select which musicians played/sang on each song, configure folder /file naming patterns for the render(saved as render settings )and click go. In just a few minutes I had a mp3 “stem” for each musician organized in folders by song (aka region). Once done, upload it all to a private file share and they had everything they needed to review their performance. Very fast, very repeatable. Now, if only the musicians would have taken advantage of it 😀. (Some did) I have a video of this process on my channel.

The Reaper installation allows the new user to begin working immediately (along with the manual and the many great how-to-demos at their site) but for those techie-types, you can customize nearly every aspect of Reaper, developing your own "custom actions" to suit your workflow. One feature of reaper I really love is AutoColor tracks by name (comes with the SWS addon). So every time I name a track it automatically set the color I set for this track. In my case every time I name a track with the word 'Vox' or 'Vocal' in it, it will be yellow, 'bass' will be violet. For the Drums I have different shades of blue (kick = darkblue, cybal/hats=lightblue) a real timesaver also when import audio from customers. I love the concept of beiing a DAW that you can customise in so many ways to your personal needs. Although this might be a bit confusing/overwhelming at the beginning, when you set it up the way you want it to work and look it's exactly support your own workflow. Thats great.

I’ve been using Reaper for some time. It has not crashed once. Even with generous use of 3rd party plugins. My previous DAW was Sonar, which crashed regularly. I assumed it was my bloated PC installation. Reaper proved that was not the case.
@DanUpdegraff
@DanUpdegraff 3 года назад
I switched from Samplitude 11 which was another crash happy DAW. Reaper is tons better. A few times, I've had VSTi's crash, but my preferences are set so only the VSTi dies, not the whole project. I've never lost any data while using Reaper.
@FatNorthernBigot
@FatNorthernBigot 3 года назад
@@DanUpdegraff I thought VSTs crashing was a fault of the third party developer, but, if Reaper is stable, then its down to the DAWs themselves.
@DanUpdegraff
@DanUpdegraff 3 года назад
@@FatNorthernBigot Yep. As a retired developer, I can say it depends how each DAW handles VSTs. A good DAW developer adds in safe guards for 3rd party components that don't always follow the rules. Reaper does this. Samplitude 11 did not, so when something went wrong in the VST, it took down the DAW along with it.

Another great plus of Reaper that I don't know if other DAWs do as well: it accepts 32-bit plugins just as well as 64-bit plugins, and VST2 plugins just as well as VST3 plugins. No external bridge needed, it's all completely automatic and transparent, and I never need to think about any of it.

Good stuff (which is always the case with this channel). I switched from Pro Tools to Reaper a few years ago, although I still maintain my PT system because there are still a lot of PT users out there that both send me stuff in that format and also ask me for things in that format. To make the transition to Reaper easier for me I used one of the PT themes for the mixer and I didn't miss a beat. I have found working with Reason to be very intuitive, at least for most of the surface functions. I came from a totally analog world when it comes to recording and engineering and I like that, for me, Reason can be configured to emulate an almost total analog environment. One thing that is great about Reaper, which is both a blessing and a curse, is that it's updated quite often...a blessing because it adds functionality that you didn't even know you needed until you tried them, but a curse in that there's more new stuff to learn. It is a good trade off though. Speaking of analog, I was getting a bit nervous watching Adam use his hands and arms when explaining things while a cup of tea sat (too) close on the deck. Many years ago, while recording at Columbia Records in New York, we walked into the studio to find the tape engineer spooling out what seemed like miles of two inch tape onto the floor after he had spilled his coffee on the transport (and the tape), and he was frantically re-spooling it while wiping (drying) the tape with a towel, of all things. Unbelievably, we lost none of the recordings, although they ruined the album when they compressed everything when pressing the vinyl, getting rid of most of the dynamics, but that's a story for another day. So, Adam, be careful with your Cherry Bakewell (was it?) tea in the future. BTW Warren, after watching your video about mixing with headphones with the Waves room emulator I went and bought the Sony MDR-7506 cans. I'm just now getting used to their sound but I'm enjoying them a lot. Thanks for the tip!

Sat: Same as above, and puts my Harmonics Analog Saturation Processor on. Lim: Same as above, and puts my TDR Limiter 6 GE on. Reverb: Same as above, and puts my Valhalla Vintage Verb on. Then I have a button that says "track high" and "track low." The low button minimizes the selected tracks to the lowest possible size, then brings them up a couple notches. The high button also minimizes them to the smallest size, then brings them up to a size I determined when I made the custom action. I love buttons to click, even better than keyboard shortcuts, which can be forgotten. 😀

Hi guys, I am Rishi. AKA bluefox. I teach reaper as a blind person since I am blind my self. Lol I use the osara plugin. it works with JAWS for windows, NVDA, System Access, Voice over, Supernova, and even narrator... I can move ten times faster in reaper than I can in any other daw. cakewalk is no longer accessabel. samplitude is accessabel with scripts for jaws. but reaper is so awsome. What I love about it, is that I can have a portable version of reaper, portable version of NVDA and that's it. I can mix where ever and when ever and I can even store it on a thumdrive lol. I can put it in dropbox and access at work. I can put it on my phone as an external card and use it when I go to a friends house on his computer and when I leave it was like it's never there to begin with. aranging in reaper is such a snap I thank god for reaper every day and I use nothing else but reaper and will use nothing else but reaper. Studio One has a update mastering file feature in the project page thats similar to the rendering Q in reaper. Also does fine with different sample rates but does show a sample rate not matching the session or audio device warning with a pop up window. But plays normal and automatically compensates. Only thing I would love have in studio one is that spectral peaks feature. That would definitely be useful in editing.

You forgot the most important. These are the best developers in the business to this day. I do not use those words lightly. That is what your paying into in a DAW. That is what anyone's paying into in a DAW. They go that far because they care. Avid is an affront at this juncture in regard. The rest can at least borrow the excuse of limited time and experience, that or innovation and it's hurdles. And we're at a very useful version 7 at this point btw.

Hi. I love this channel!!! So, can I change from 44.1 to 48 in a project already started and saved to 44.1 without any problem? I have read that the best for recording and mixing is 48 to 24 bit. I use 44.1 and 24 bits and I don't know what to do because I still have several unfinished projects.

@@jaimebuesamartin7516 not really, maybe in a pro pro situation like audio shaping for games and film scoring etc, but i bet nobody would notice the difference with great a great quality 16 bit/ 44.1 Khz recording. Take in mind that in the end what ever you are going to send to real world will get compressed and the sample rate will get degraded. RU-vid and all major platforms do it, these days most people use crap headphones on their mobile so take that into consideration. Sometimes more can be just overkill ;)

How cheap it is for a home studio user; how long the license lasts; the continuous updates and free add-ons; the brutal customisability of both the environment and the commands; the automation items; it's light on cpu consumption; it's stable.... The benefits are innumerable.

Wow. I had no idea Osara existed. I‘ll keep that in mind when a vision impaired user asks me for options. I‘ve met a few in past years. Spectral peaks. Need to give this a go. I mix and edit dialogue all day so it might help. And as for my favorite reason to use Reaper, it enables me to do this work. Protools would have taken 10-30k more in investment and been chronically unstable and inflexible by comparison.

the other day i found out about something reaper couldn’t do, but seriously i don’t remember, what it was! reaper might not have the prettiest gui and it might be quite overwhelming to configure it the way you want it to behave and finding the exact action, you are looking for, also might be quite tricky. but it‘s reliable, fast, small in size , running on every operating system, flexible and just let’s you get your work done, without causing any trouble. the only other software playing in the same league is photoshop, but if you consider the download size, reaper wins!

Second year I'm using this registered DAW and every time there is an upgrade, there is new stuff I didn't know. I understand that new users can't follow these, because they are so fast implemented. Which is a good thing, because if you spend more hours, you only can get better. Still happy, I turned down PT. And the powerful community is getting bigger and bigger. Which give you solutions, when you're stuck, or don't know how to do an action. And mostly in a short time. So you can work on a project and have your answer before you are on the end of the project.

Also, maybe an idea: someone write a plugin that can use the spectral peaks to auto-find those Squeaks or Pops hes looking for?

I hate how most of my plugins are too small to use when in 4k. Seems to have trouble exporting stems. Also when using a midi controller with it doesnt always work, sometimes it just stops working because you selected the mixer.

The only thing I hate about Reaper is that it isn't compatible with OMF and XML from Premiere/FCP X. I do sound design for short films from time to time and I always need to do some weird trick to get the file imported in Reaper. Anything else is just like magic for me! It can handle big projects without crashing or anything, support for 32 and 64 bit VSTs, never had any problems with any audio interface, fast editing, so nice for mixing...

Hi all you awesome and creative musical Ladies and Gents! Reaper kicks *ss! It's the best innovative DAW, it's open source and even free for those that don't have the finances to buy a license (they don't even want registration etc.). The people that created Reaper had the music, creativity and individual work flow in their minds and not money! They wanted to make a DAW that had all the great features that the "expensive" DAW's have, yet leaving out the senseless CPU eaters! Another great feature is that Reaper doesn't color the sound as most expensive DAW's do! God bless everyone that has, is and will be contributing to the making Reaper what is has been, is and will forever be! The best DAW ever!!!!

I started with SAWStudio and in a way Reaper is a spiritual follower for SAW. For me they both represent what is perhaps best in American entrepreneurship. I first chose SAW because it was designed for musicians and not for German engineers. No offense for German engineers or Germans (I even know, what aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu means which most of you don't ;) ) After I tried Reaper for the first time I was more than willing to pay for it and, I think it is worth lot's more than the $80 or something I paid for it and, if in the future there will be a new version and they. want money for it, I am more than willing to pay.

If there is a problem with a plugin, Reaper devs fix it promptly. Recently I had an issue with Kontakt Player 6 vst3 and the problem was fixed within the week. My Reaper installation is totally mine - premium theme updated to my liking by me, most used functions have a button ready to go. It's like having a custom-built guitar.

Reaper works well with Waves at least for me. I have Horizon and a bunch of other stuff and it all works fine. Brainworx stuff also no problem. Ive used bits of Izotope, IK and NI stuff with no issues as well. Just do yourself and Reaper a favor and organize your plugin folder(s) and you'll be set

I used to call Reaper users the vegans of the DAW world - 'cos they're always banging on about it - but I've been using it the past 2 weeks and I got up and running for mixing super-fast and oh boy it is an insanely impressive bit of software at any cost, let alone the $60 price tag most of us qualify for.

I think the stigma with it was the cheap price and how bad it looked and lack of features many years ago. Not the case anymore except the cheap price which I am a fan of.
