No, you can't just yank the stem out because behind the stem there is usually a gear that is even wider so there is basically no way of yanking it out without breaking the white housing. If you actually want to replace the stem, it is a bit more complicated. In addition, depending on your location and when you bought the blinds, the stems may look similar but may be different and hard to obtain. Here are some steps: 1. You need to drill a hole about 3/8" inch in diameter on top of the track (opposite side where the stem is showing) *** you don't need to align the hole with the carrier, matter fact you should not drill the hole at the ends of the track because in case you need to replace another stem you wouldn't need to drill another hole) 2. Push the stem from its tip with a plier or using a rubber hammer punch the stem on its tip. 3. The stem should now slide out from the hole that you created 4. Pop a new stem into the hole 5.
