Pizza dates back to at least the Romans, and that predates Tomatoes being introduced to the region. So if you have Tomato sauce on yours, don't complain about Pineapple or Chicken, since yours is already non-traditional.

Mushrooms and olives are my lifetime favorite toppings, but I've been obsessed with ricotta on pizza for the past year or so. 😂 Ricotta with fresh, ripe tomato sauce, basil, a drizzle of olive oil, and a very light sprinkle of lemon zest SO GOOD!😋

This comment section is so toxic. He's not telling you how you should eat, he's telling you how italians usually eat pizza and consequently what to ask if you're in Italy. If you ask for a pepperoni in Italy prople will look confused because peperoni in italian means pepper. Those names were invented by italian americans who basically forgot the italian language and so they created those weird combinations. Everyone is free to add wathever they want on their pizzas but in Italy we generally keep it simple because if your ingredients are very good you dont need to add 5/6 different things on a pizza. If you have top ingredients a simple margherita with mozzarella di bufala will be fantastic. The same goes for a lot of Italian recepies: you need to have good ingredients, in that case less is more. I see a lot of basically racist people in this comment section who think italians are backward and don't know how to innovate. For the food we don't feel the need to innovate because it's already good. I think you should all calm down and reflect before writing.

Why would I, a Ukrainian-American, want to eat a pizza “like an Itialian”? We like to have our pizzas with all the meat and veggies we can get. So I’ll load up my pizza with a mozzarella/parmesan blend, pepperoni, chicken, bacon, mushrooms, green bell peppers, black olives, red onion, topped with minced garlic and a blend of parmesan/Italian seasoning on top! Oh and don’t forget to give me a bunch of ranch on the side! But you can go ahead and proceed with eating your bland pizza the “true Italian way”. Or maybe for a change, you can try the perfected way mentioned above! You’re welcome in advance!

I have different favourite topping configurations 😎 -Tomato, cooking cream, shrimps, smoked salmon Tomato and mozzarella based: -speck, spinach, Parmigiano -sausage, gorgonzola, Parmigiano -cooked ham and mushrooms I also like -Pumpkin cream based which contrasts a salty topping (sausage and parmesan?) -Saffron cream based with zucchini, gorgonzola and Parmigiano. -Fior di latte, Cured ham, fig jam 😊 Have you tried one of these? Fave toppings are always rotating, but I like roasted veggies on them like mushrooms, peppers and zucchini. I also enjoy potato and mortadella on pizza Napoletana. And lastly, not sure if this is a traditional topping, but cherry peppers with either sausage or salami come together really well!

People have different food preferences around the world. Real Italian pizza wouldn't succeed in my country. I live in Southeast Asia where we're used to strong flavors. Just like our rendang wouldn't be served in its original form in Western countries. We like to dip everything in chili sauce we called it sambal and thats also pizza. It is hard to look for tomato sauce in any restaurant here. Commonly is chili sauce including in any KFC McD Burger King and so on. All Western restaurants that enter my country always adjust their flavors. Even 60% of McDonald's sales here are spicy chicken, which I'm sure isn't available at McDonald's in Europe.

Ohoh... the so called true traditional Italians... I've got friends that are Italians, I've been to Italy a couple of times... pizza restaurants have all kinds, not just yer traditional pies. BUT pineapple... NO!

I mean he’s got a point you’re in italy so just eat pizza according to italians don’t bring your “i ate how i want” pizza to them just keep it to yourself. Also i feel like it’s not a sin to make your own “pizza” as long as you don’t call it italian pizza but that’s just my personal observation since i see alot of people bastardizing my country food but as long as they don’t call it authentic im fine.

The Diavola is my favourite pizza since I tried it a while back. I've learned to askf or it without chili oil if I'm getting it delivered because it just becomes a soggy red mess.

Depends what you mean by ketchup, and considering you show diarrhea in a bottle, id agree. However, freshly made ketchup from actual tomatoes and bbqed chilli pepper, now that you put on any frigging pizza.

He's not saying a word about or against American pizzas, or the way Americans eat their pizzas. You Americans do whatever you want. You always have, you always will. Well he must be pissed because Pineapples are making waves in Italy. thanks to Gino Sorbillo, the renowned Naples pizzaiolo (pizza maestro) who has added the dreaded “ananas” to his menu in Via dei Tribunali, the best known pizza street in the world capital of pizza. Franco Pepe, considered the best pizzaiolo in the world, has created AnaNascosta, his pineapple pizza and this is a few years back

After being invited to a friends Itallian family dinner a few times, I can say they have a way of cooking with fresh ingredients that is amazing. The recipies are simple, but the food tastes amazing! Sometimes "less is more" :) Not sure about the pineapple ban in italy though. :( I like pineapple on everything.

I don't get why Italians are so against Pineapple on pizza, as if tomato's had allways been on pizza... Tomatoes come from the new world, so good luck finding tomato pizza's in the 17th century. Before that they used carrots I think

Pizza in Naples was one of the biggest culinary disappointments of my life. Went to the top 3 most renowned places and they were ALL a soupy, soggy mess. So terrible. Like ordering tomato soup in a bread bowl but it came on a bread plate instead.

Honestly food was bad in Italy 🇮🇹 😢😢😢 unfortunately went to 12 different cities just kept getting disappointed, the Gelato was pretty good though like 7/10
