The NFT scams are the ones I get hit with the most. They pretend to be interested in buying your art for amazing amounts of money, then insist that you use a certain site to pay for authenticating the work as an NFT. After researching the site you see that it’s known for scams. They just want you 2-$500 buy in

Hello, Aww thank, so glad I found your video, it is the 3rd time I am having weird demand through my DM. Last in date, a lady asking me to draw her daughter, the pictures she sent me look suspicious not even a good shot, she told me to take my time and she is willing to pay $500. When I ask her what style of drawing she wants (cause I do both real life painting and digital art), she's like whatever o.O

I just got my 1st strange DM 2 days ago. So glad I found this video. The thing that really made me angry is they wanted me to make a custom piece of “their” daughter. And proceeded to send me a stock photo. They wanted me to do all this special work and they were going to steal from me.

Great message. And yes, I almost learned the hard way, but when I was advised to pay £280 to mint each of them I thought it was a tad fishy. Phew😅❤ Added: I was offered £3000 per piece that I mint on globeart to be paid in etherium, so I was even setting up a conversion wallet. Soon as I copped-on it was fishy I contacted the platform provider with the info and they suspended her account. I also spotted that she was spotless clean when painting in every photo on her channel.

I had someone once who wanted to book a party (I did henna art at the time). His email was full of typos, but this was super early on when these types of things were just starting. I had a weird feeling about it, but I gave him my mailing address to send a payment. He sent me an official looking money order with an overpayment for my services by $3000 and then emailed me in a panic once I got the mo asking me to deposit it to my bank and then wire him back the difference. It looked like a completely legitimate mo (I was impressed), but I did due diligence and checked the establishment he had allegedly drawn it from and looked them up online. He said he got it from a grocery store that actually does money transfers, but the store he drew it from doesn't exist in the state the mo said it was from, so I shredded it. The thing is, most banks will cash out mo's right away, because cash is used to purchase them, so they trust that it's backed by cash. Don't do it! Because YOU are the one the bank will come after for fraud.

NFT’s! Oh boy they all would love to see my work in NFT’s, but only on this or that website and you only have to pay gasfee, which can be even lots more than the actual price. But hey! They offer like $5400,- per NFT and are interested in at least four of your paintings…. Ehm…. I don’t think so…

I've started getting those as well. Same thing and from the city I grew up in just an hour away, but her picture is a famous actress from Australia, so wth is she doing in Oklahoma? , Stay alert, and thanks for confirming that I could not figure out how or where to ask a cogent query without stumbling around in the weeds. You absolutely confirmed my belief it was about the gas fees. Thank you .

I'm more of a writer than an artist, and some of this strikes me as similar to the scams in the writing corner of things. The vanity galleries made me think of vanity publishing, for instance. We've just gotta watch out. Thank you for pointing these out so we don't get scammed.

Myself as well,because noone listens to me ,except a scammer .Just as a car salesman who will say my name every 30 to 50 words is gone ,so are those publisher who constanty call to see how my work is going , " Hello ...just calling to see ...." " Dam ,I cannot talk now ,as they monitor our cubicles for electronic footprints that are not from their ...Oh...CRAP ive been flagged...hold on don't hang up and dont say anything and I will try to bluff my way through this . The monitor is coming this way now with the sweeper and if you break the connection they can pinpoint it shhhhhhh Then I let them cool for a minute or 2 while I mumble and mutter in numerous voices ( I AM a sound and voice mimic) Another minute of silence and " I just got fired and have less than 5 min.to get my car down to ground level and out the exit barriers " NO .I AM NOT WAITING FOR YOU TO CALL UPSTAIRS ...ITS BEEN JUST UNDER 4 min so dont try that crap ,because i recorded the whole thing and you lock my car in here ill drive trough your stupid little barrier and you got 20 seconds of the 30 seconds i still have to do it NOW .Yeah but you opened *:'';:;::;;'$ f____y____! Then If the guy is still there I say well on the good side I have more time to write....but I live 30 miles from here much as I hated these people I needed this job for one more month ,so I could blaaa blaaaa telling every sad story I could about my life and troubles... When I stop and they do not have any sympathy ....I am convinced and I paid them back for wasting my time ......plus as a bonus I got to do creative - on the fly story telling while in character and end the conversation " Man ,i am absolutely sure I told you not to call me between 9 and 4 ..... Thsts just 1 way being a sound and voice mimic allows me to play them .* note * my favorite is to answer and do ( i can do it for ever no stop ) my imitation of a fax machine number . Lol calls that get that 2 times never return .

Tbh, a lot of art biz advice has come to seem pretty scammy. It's naive to assume that any artist's success is transferrable if they'd just use the right hashtags or post at these peak times, etc. And so many tutorials and blogs, etc. all say the same thing, or they assume everyone already has a robust email list. I feel like art advisors have continually advised focusing on small things while leaving out the more fundamental but more difficult things. And I've yet to see an artist address this: what if you do all those things and it doesn't work? I also think people should be more wary of courses taught by someone with vague credentials. There seem to be a lot of those out there. Finally, one of the most egregious things out there is the misuse of terms like "art therapy" and "art therapist." I worry about the consequences of that stuff the most. Just because someone has a degree in art therapy doesn't mean they are or have ever been a licensed counselor. It someone is in crisis and they turn to their "art therapist," that's so dangerous. I don't think the art therapy things are intentionally scammy, but they are in that people aren't getting what they think they're getting.
@JosieLewisArt
@JosieLewisArt 9 месяцев назад
oooo yes this is a super good observation. There's always someone who claims to have the art sales "secret" that you can learn for just $1999! With vague credentials, all the way.

I encountered a person who wants to buy my artwork as NFT on OpenSea, but he requires me to clear the gas fee on my side. Is this a scam?
@creacionesdejoyasunicasdea1834
@creacionesdejoyasunicasdea1834 10 месяцев назад
Very likely. After you send them the money they will most likely not buy and you won't hear from them again. Opensea right now takes the gas fee during a purchase so you get the net amount. Very similar to what PayPal does where you pay for the fee at the time of the transaction and you get the net amount.
@johnbeaver3911
@johnbeaver3911 10 месяцев назад
@@creacionesdejoyasunicasdea1834 Yes. So currently I tell everyone who talks about NFT to visit my OpenSea store to buy my works. This simply makes them shut up immediately and save my time and money. An other red flag is the scammer's offer is very high and doesn't play price game as real buyer usually does.

@@mahtarezaei8152 Same. The website has only thousands visits per month and the domain is very young (only 6 months or less). All are red flags.
@creacionesdejoyasunicasdea1834
@creacionesdejoyasunicasdea1834 10 месяцев назад
The gas is taken during the transaction from the transaction itself if this is Opensea and you get the net difference. You don't pay the gas outside of the transaction or pay it again outside of the transaction. If somebody says to do that and they give you a wallet address to send anything it's a scam. An Opensea purchase in 2023 is a plug and play click the buy button and purchase with nothing more outside of that. People should update their videos talking about how you must pay gas fees do this and that because this is making it very confusing when this is all just plug and play click the buy button and buy. The confusion is making it easier for scammers. You don't need to be an expert or know the block chain or be an Opensea engineer. It's not harder than making an eBay purchase where you don't send the eBay listing fee to someone via PayPal and you don't send the PayPal fee. You just click and buy and the seller gets the net difference in PayPal because of the PayPal fee. You don't send that separately. Opensea is exactly the same except instead of PayPal you use a wallet.

They appear in droves, and say something like: "Love it (red heart emoji) dm on @(name xyz of their instagram account). What the heck are these up to? I haven't ever dm-ed any of them. I just delete them. But is it a scam?
@JosieLewisArt
@JosieLewisArt Год назад
The scam happens when they ask you to increase the price for installers or something, then they send the money and you mail the art, 2-3 weeks later the money that came through Paypal will be reversed due to the scam. You out money, art, shipping and the time it took to deal with it.
