Wow! This is timely for me, I got, the call from my AD in Toronto yesterday for an Explorer 2 and I walked away due to money being tight. Thanks Britt!
Rule No. 5: Don’t buy a watch if your AD is requiring you to spend an additional 50% on other merchandise in order for them to “advocate for you to get the watch today”. Doh!
Whaaat! Thabk you so much! You know, I nearly didn’t post this because I wasn’t sure if people would find value in it. 💕💕 I’m so glad it’s been informative!
The value is in the real world examples that I'm sure everyone can relate to. Really hit home with the Tudor gmt story btw. If anyone's reading this comment, hmu if you're looking for a Tudor gmt 😉
Some good points. As a fairly new enthusiast I admit I’ve been caught up in the race to build a collection and discover new interesting watches. Thankfully I haven’t lost too much money when I wasn’t feeling the watch because I’ve mostly bought used ones. Good reminder that this is an expensive hobby and it’s ok to slowly acquire them over years not months.
Dear Britt: This is the best video you have made in ages. I have fallen in nearly all those reasons, but don’t regret of my purchases. If I’d had money I’ll be buying more freakin’ watches than I could wear. 🤣 By the way, your husband is very lucky having you and your advices aside. A big hug for you both. Best regards
Hello Britt from Texas wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey. LOL , your right collecting watches is a marathon but now finding myself really picky on what I like. I’ve had the “AD Call” & passed on it. I think the micro brands are doing some really awesome innovation’s so that’s the path I’m following right now. Love your channel 😊
Great points Britt. Peter Kotsa just did a video on importance of not buying what people say you should... Two great videos in one day. We're getting spoiled
I've learned long time ago to never settle for second best. If you can't afford it, save and then buy what you want. In the long run, you end up saving money.
Great video and sound advice In particular don’t compromise and wait for what you really want, and make sure you’ve tried it on first to know that it resonates. I’m surprised how often the watches I find myself loving the most aren’t the ones that I was originally most interested in from photos and videos. You only truly know when you try it on if you have a connection with it.
Britt! You are so right with these signs. And this video is not dumb, it presents truths that sometimes we need to hear even when we do not. I was one that almost fell for the "flex" buy. My AD offered me a Black Bay Pro, when it first dropped. But I relented as it being 39mm, it was not a good fit for me. But man did I want it. Glad I was able to convince myself to walk away. Keep the content coming. Long Live the Cult(s) and 4:30 windows.
Ahhh I’m so glad I’m not the only one falling into the flex trap! 👻🙈 it’s so tempting!!!! But you’re so right - sometimes it’s good to relent! Don’t buy something unless you truly want it! And keep that watch open for someone who will actually appreciate it! 💕💕✨✨✨
I’m definitely fall into consumerism probably due to isolation. I don’t spend more than I can afford but I end up with more stuff than I need. It’s not a dumb video
I agree on most, but not the placeholder one. If you don’t have the funds or a good AD, buying a placeholder watch means you still have a solid watch to enjoy until the situation changes
So true!!! I always wanted the pelagos, went to the loacal AD, they dont have it, but i saw the BB58 925, liked the look, so I brought it. Had it on my wrist for a few months, realized the 925 isnt for me. I wanted the pelagos so i can wear it everyday without worrying about getting the watch scratched up and the 925 isn’t that watch. The silver case is so damn soft, feeling like even if i looked at it hard i can put a scratch on the watch. Later on i had the opportunity to try on the pelagos at the AD, the watch is perfect, but too big for my wrist and too thick for my liking. Was debating whether if i should get it, my hot head is telling me yes, but my guts are telling me no. Luckily I listened to my guts. Did not get the pelagos. Then the pelagos 39 came out….. I tried it….. and I brought it! Been in love with it ever since.
For me, it's Don't buy a watch as an impulse! That 'love at first sight' thing is strong in the watch world. I have a few watches that I have quickly fallen out of love with because I simply bought them without a second thought. Like you said at the end of this video, it's a marathon, not a sprint. I have learned the hard way to take my time lol.
Watch collecting is not only a marathon, it's an addiction... a virus you cannot control 🤕 There is always another one... and another. But I totally agree with all 4 reasons. Although I have to admit that I do sometimes buy a watch, just to buy a watch. Last week I bought another G-Shock because it looked great and was very cheap... it's that darn itch. I've got a couple that I still really want but there a bit pricier than a G-Shock so it takes a while and that's ok. On my list are the Speedmaster Moonwatch, Seamaster 300M, Tudor BB 41mm... and of course a second Rolex 🤩..... yep, it's an addiction 😉 Great video Britt, enjoy the upcoming weekend 🥳🎉
LMAO!!! I need to change my tag line to this! “Watch collecting is not only a marathon… it’s an addiction” 🤣 it’s too true tho! What’s wrong with us?! But I’m glad we’re in it together! 😈😝💕
I think it is fine if you enjoy collecting watches, the most important thing that you don't want to do is to break the first rule of this video. The rest of them are not that critical
Sage advice, Brit. I am MUCH older than you and learned L-O-N-G ago not to settle for a lesser watch, because then you wind up spending more-because you've bought that AND eventually, the watch you actually wanted in the 1st place. Also, I never buy something as unnecessary as another timepiece unless I have the "cash" to pay for it.
I bought the BB 58 in blue because of the extended wait for my new no date sub. Didn't like the thickness of the tudor case and promptedly sold the 58 at a healthy loss. Should have been patient, just as you have encouraged your husband to be.
You should have kept both 🙈 just kidding, though the BB58 is a gorgeous watch amd wears nicely. Does it really sit thicker than the new subs? And did you get your Sub yet?
I think I’m over my watch addiction-it took about a dozen affordables and 4 Rolex! But I reserve the right to buy a gold dress watch in the future 😎! Great vid Brit
I need to see this video at regular intervals. Also, I have to nitpick that you showed a Millgause in relation to flex-watches. I do think Rolex is a bit of a flex brand in many cases, but the Millgause is the least flexy Rolex, I think. That is the watch when you can afford a lot of pretty watches, but you something understated and cool that only the "nerds" of the Rolex fan-club appreciate. It's actually the only Rolex that James May owns, and often wears when he's doing television, especially the later Grand Tour specials. But May has a lot of interesting watches in his collection, everything from Hamilton to Omega, amd a couple of ceramic Rado's as well. And that one orange dial watch he wears in Oh, Cook series 2. Richard Hammond is a true Rolex fan-boy, but also has a Speedy, a Monaco and at leastone Breitling, and I think I even saw him wearing a JLC Reverso once. Jeremy is an huge Omega fan, but also has a nice IWC he wears a lot, and one Breitling he uses when he's farming. Fun fact, when they're in Cambodia during the hilariously named episode Grand Tour Presents Seaman, they each buy a watch at a market. May buys a Bell & Ross that fogs up, Richard Hammond buys what looks like a Richard Mille, and Jeremy buys a G-Shock (that I think is a real one, because he has worn it since).
I am planning to purchase a several thousand watch for the very first time next month. It’s a grail watch that I loved even before I got in to watches. After that it will be easy going because most other watches I like are between 500 en 2000 range so I won’t have to do any compromising
Best "placeholders" watches are Casios... you can still feel like you have a new watch and enjoy it, but you don't have to waste valuable savings (love my g shock and w86.... ), while you wait for the one
I NEEDED this video!! I’m waiting for the call for a Rolex Explorer 36! Been waiting for a bit, and I recently thought maybe I should just get a Santos de Cartier. After this video, I just know I need to hold out for the Explorer! Thanks Brittany!!
Great video! Hit the nail on the head…. Issue is sometimes you really just don’t get the call…..have been waiting 22 months… so I think it’s safe to say they not going to call 😊
OR... sometimes over-extending yourself to buy a watch forces you to work harder or get creative to fill the financial hole. As long as it doesn't force you to live under a bridge, a little financial pressure can be useful. The "stress" is not for everyone, so you have to know yourself. I can tell you this, I got into watches 6 years ago. Back then a $300 watch purchase was a "WTH moment". Fast-forward to today, and I will casually buy a 5-figure watch with a couple of mouse clicks over morning coffee. I have gotten pretty good at finding value in the pre-owned market, so if something just isn't right after a month or two, it is fairly easy to recover the purchase price, and often add a little to the watch fund. Not a strategy if one is buying at the local AD (unless Rolex), but it has worked out alright so far. Anyway, the observation I wanted to share... as the price-point of the watches in the collection has risen steadily over these 6 years, so too has my income and overall financial health. Coincidence? Maybe. There is no arguing the correlation though. I have pushed myself to assemble a fair decent collection and the money has been there when needed. Recently I have been slimming the collection in anticipation of a more nomadic life starting sometime in 2024. The thought of shepherding a few dozen watches around the world seems more likely to induce stress than to provide joy. As the watches have been finding new homes, I have been left with a fair decent sum of cash to put into investments, money that may not have otherwise been there. I would have to conclude that, up to this point, the watch hobby has been a net benefit to the finances... not to mention a whole lot of fun!
Thanks Britt, I really needed to hear this. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a gold Cartier Tank Louis at my AD here in Houston. But I started to think where in the hell would I wear it, I wouldn't wear at the office I don't think and I really don't go to dress up events that often so it would just become a safe queen along with all of the other watches I don't wear. I've wanted a Tank Louis for years but other watches always seem to be the smarter buys. So I'm going to scratch the new watch itch with something that I will actually put in the rotation. Thanks again.
I did the flex watch thing with a Batman. And realized I didn’t actually like it after I bought it. Thought it was my dream watch for so long but wasn’t :(
Those are all excellent points. I would also try to be patient and not get caught up in this race to build a huge collection. I saw some guy on Reddit bragging about his collection he had amassed in one year which included many Rolex, JLC, and Patex watches. When you do that it doesn't seem like you put much research into the watches you bought. Personally for me that would take the fun out of watch collecting. I only have about 5 or 6 watches. Which I feel is more than enough. I only try to buy watches like the Seiko Alpinist that I know I will actually wear and not just have sit in a watch box.
Great sound advice… I think it was the famous Jay Z credited with saying “If you can’t afford to buy it twice, you can’t afford it “ ……..obviously not a problem he’s come across, but surely a good benchmark to consider 👍
It’s almost like a “more easily available” Rolex these days! I got my BB GMT with it being the full goal (though one day, down the line, I wouldn’t hate adding a vintage Coke bezel GMT to the collection) and while I was saving and waiting for it to be available, I was almost tempted by other GMT watches. But I held out, got my BB GMT, and I absolutely adore it. It’s such a great watch to be able to put on and feel like I could go anywhere in the world with it. It is always best to wait for what you want (as long as it’s reasonable, I don’t think I’m ever going to get my hands on a Royal Oak chronograph, frankly).
absolutely spot on video! The story about your bike accident reminded me about a time when I was in hospital after a similar accident and got "the call" for an explorer 2 and had to turn it down! Still haven't got that watch, and now can't afford it post covid unfortunately. still the dream though!
@watchgringa A titanium bolt in my pelvis and a bad back are the only lasting side effects thankfully, cheers for asking! I'm down for a white dial Explorer 2, just looks so clean!
I think number 3 is more general than that. It should be more like: never EVER buy a watch you haven't tried on. Ever. There were more than one instances when I thought I loved a watch, but when I saw it on my wrist it just wasn't "right". The watch was still good... just not for me.
First off, congrats on sneaking up on 100K subscribers. This video hit home for me. Finally after who knows how long got the call for a SS Submariner. At the worst possible time. Leaky roof necessitated repairs, other unexpected expenses etc. Could have taken it out of savings but not a good idea this year. Not like I really needed it. I mean I’ve got the Aqua Terra 41 mm plus a CW diver so this would have been one that I’d like but don’t need. Next year maybe but I did the responsible thing and passed. Good move but damn I hate being an adult sometimes. A friend said I should have bought it and resold but I’m not into that. If I’m done with a watch or tired of it I give it to family.
Ppl should buy a watch they love. You have to try a watch on and see how you feel. I see so many people promoting certain watches and when I try them I’m just like… what’s the hype about. Go for what you like and you will never be wrong.
Excellent points Britt. I did once buy a watch that I shouldn't have many years ago that had me struggling for 3 months to make ends meet. I've never bought a watch because I was sad, however, I was sad AFTER buying a watch....the Omega Moonsxxt. Even though I got my money back after the caseback leached the colour onto my wrist, I still felt sad that I was stupid enough to buy into the hype. 😂
Thanks a lot for your videos, especially about the word, don't buy a watch you really don't want aboslutely ... I cancelled an impulsive buy shortly after 😂
Hmmm...... 95.9K Subs. Getting closer and closer to that magical number, 100K!!! Parr-TEE! Parr-TEE! Parr-TEE! You MUST do a Livestream Party to celebrate!
Very useful video. If it's an expensive watch, you have to try it on, take a photo, then come back home and think if you really want to buy it. Sometimes you even need to try it several times to decide. It's a long process sometimes (especially if you are on a waiting list). If it's an inexpensive watch (Swatch, Casio), you see it in a store, and you buy it immediately if the watch is available.
I’m 44, I’ve literally done this many times. Also, “im going to buy it because im bored” Then noting generally buy watches that depreciate like a brick, bad times. But im a watch nerd and i get bored.
The retail therapy purchase is a tough one. Have done this a few times and it’s never a great idea. It won’t scratch the itch of what you actually want. As for the flex purchase, don’t do it. Never buy ANYTHING to impress people you don’t know and will most likely never meet. I almost bought the Rolex GMT Batman and once I saw it on me I instantly knew it wasn’t for me. The Explorer II was a much better choice which I never considered until I was at the AD, turned down the Batman and saw the Explorer on me. Go with what you love (not like) ALWAYS!
Absolutely the best video on the subject of watch collecting. I am convinced that everyone has bought placeholder watches. Only a woman can make such an intelligent and emotional video that reaches the collector one hundred percent. Congratulations!!!
I agree with not impulse buying. I also think that if you can afford a gold Patek Aquanaut when you get the call, you ain't hurtin'. But I'm still a fan.
Back in 1989 I owned 1 watch, a 36mm Rolex Datejust, stainless with a gold fluted bezel...a gift from my grandparents. It was brand-new, sitting in my grandfather's drawer, who was gifted it himself. It had an alligator strap with a stainless buckle and gold rolex logo. My grandfather had no use for it...he abhored wristwatches and only carried a Patek 18k pocket watch, which I now own. Great watch! I immediately took that strap off and went to a Rolex dealer and bought for $60, a Rolex expandable riveted oyster bracelet...selling for $4,000 today. Crazy! Later that year I really wanted an Omega Speedmaster Professional. I went around to a few watchmakers in Manhattan and asked them if they ever got any pre-owned Speedmaster Professionals in...and put my name on their list. A couple of months later I got the call... That they have a pre-owned Speedmaster. It was $375, and do I want it? "Yes, yes, yes! I ran down to the watchmaker. Like the sometimes moron that I am, I asked if he'd take $325. He yelled at me, "Do you want it or not?" Of course I did. My collection has grown, but never buying a new watch...except for a Casio. I even bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot bracelet model, pre-owned, for $285. I do meander into Tourneau, Wempe and other shops to drool. I have a LeCoultre, Panerai (and I don't know why?) and others...some bought pre-owned for a song during the 2008 recession. 2 years ago I really loved the look of the Air King, the one without the crown guards, with the Oyster case. I went down to a local AD and put myself on the list. I got the call and went down to pick it up. I like the watch, but didn't love it. I passed. It was a design that I didn't want to invest $8,000 in. Two months later I saw a Pagani Design PD-1692 online. It was a nice homage to the Air King. I bought it for $86 on a sale. Is it an Air King, no! But it's a homage to a design that I like, and seriously, very well made. It has a robust, indestructible Seiko NH-35 movement. I can wear it everywhere and not worry about my safety. Back to your subject matter...you are so right...don't settle and wait for the right watch.
Been caught twice on No. 4. Got a Tudor GMT S&G last year, as just had to have a GMT for a US trip, and had been on the Pepsi list for a few years. Kept it for a year and to be fair, I really enjoyed the watch. Just had others getting more wrist time. Second time was this summer. Put my name down for an Explorer II black, thinking it would be months away at the very least. Decided to get a BB Pro (10% off with work) for yes, another holiday. In the end I didn't even take it with me, obviously getting the call on the Rolex whilst away. It was 4 weeks. Too late to return the Tudor, so I'm stuck with it, left to decide how big a bath I want to take. 🙂
BAHAHA it sounds like you… and holidays…. And watch buying is a dangerous combination! 😝😝😝 To be FAIR I nearly did crime #1 on holiday in Germany!!! I fell in love with an ALS! I was in Germany! It all felt sooo right! But it was going to squeeze the budget more than it should. So….. I had to pass it up! My heart is still a wee bit broken. 😢 but the fun is in the chase!
@@BrittPearceWatches Yeah. I'm not a pilot, and certainly don't think of myself as an 'international traveller'. 🙂When on holiday I couldn't give a stuff what time it is back home. I've liked the BB Pro since launch, and if it wasn't for the Explorer II arriving it would likely had a decent chunk of wrist time. Loosely the same watch though, and I'd never take the Tudor over the Rolex.
I totally bought a watch once when I was sad and having a terrible time at work. But it was one I had been looking at and it was in stock and ....... it's probably my favorite (IWC Mark XX, blue dial with bracelet). So sometimes it can work out? Or I'm weird? Or both?
I must sayim not an early adopter, it sometimes takes me a year to decide if I really like a watch, let alone wanna spend my hard owned on it, so I would add, don't rush, it'll still be there tomorrow (mostly) Of course this is unnecessary advice to Rolex customers who must perforce wait anyway😂
I’m so with you on that one. A couple weeks ago I went to the Bucherer store in my town to see if the watch I’m on waiting list for ( Explorer 2 Polar dial) has arrived. Of course not, but the dales lady, showed me a Rolex Date just 36 mm two tones with palm tree dial in gold that happened to be available. Beautiful watch but not corresponding at all to my criteria that are : nothing less than 40 mm and never a two tone. 😫I walked out of the store with it 🫤. My wife is happy though, she loves it. I spent 11500 swiss francs for it and will not be able to afford my expected watch if coming in soon🤬
Here is my TOP TIP for whether you should buy a watch. Think about your entire collection. Could you wear this new watch for 72 consecutive hours (as long as there isn’t something it would be unsuitable for, such as swimming or a formal occasion). Can you wear it for 3 days without wishing you had something else on? Then buy it. If not, you don’t love it enough. Also: Buy Well, Buy Once. Don’t get another watch because you wish you’d had another. I wanted to get an Explorer 2. Bought a Panerai instead with a white dial and it’s the only watch I’ve ever sold. And I ended up getting a Exp 2 from duty free (remember when you could do that?). Luckily the saving offset the hit I took selling the Panerai, but still. Lesson learned!
3 days is so little and yet to us watch geeks it can seem endless😄 I recently went through that same process before going on vacation, knowing that I would only bring one watch. I decided on my Explorer, which I love, but rarely wore more than 2-3 days at a time. Anyway, in those 10 days not once did I wish I had brought a different watch instead and that made me happy☺️ it showed that I couldn’t actually get bored with the watch, I guess I just like to mic it up when I have options, but don’t need to. P.S. i also have an Explorer 2 40mm - my first big watch purchase that I purchased instead of the Explorer, but never regretted. Though I do feel a need to frequently swap straps on my Explorer 2 for some reason.
@@Bisley1 hey, my rule used to be 7 days, then, 5 days and now it’s 3 😂 I went on holiday in August and took a GMT 2 and a sub with me, honestly my only regret was not bringing my Exp2. I was too busy to go to the bank and the sub was amazing for boating and snorkelling but the polar would have been perfect for hiking, instead of the GMT. Swapping up straps is the beauty of some watches, especially 5 digit Rolexes (the later no holes cases not so much), it really can dramatically change how a watch looks and feels I bet you get lots of enjoyment switching it up!
I have been heavily considering buying a Breitling, visited the ad a few times just to confirm that I still want it. I’m glad you are smart when selecting what watch to buy. I think we all need some of your wisdom on how to go about it.
Another mistake is listening to some youtubers who tell their viewers that they need to have a collection that include 1 a divewatch 2 a GMT 3 A chronograph 4 a dresswatch and, etc, etc... just buy you like. Not what other people tell what you should have in your collection.
But the itch is so real! 😅All great points, Britt. Always worth giving it a little time before deciding on a watch investment, if you can. Gut feels - whether excitement, anxiety over funds, or feeling slightly deflated - are also worth listening very closely to. Not always easy to do. (Also... it's the Patron dancing for me 👏💃🤪)
Maybe it’s my phone, but the blue on those Pepsi shots looks almost black and quite frankly, I love it! 😍 The ceramic Pepsis somehow never did it for me and I was contemplating getting an older Pepsi instead, but I must say, if they released a Coke, I’d be at the AD in an instant! That being said, I’m still hoping for the call for my Root Beer and Starbucks and I want the funds ready. So unless I save a bunch more, I won’t be getting any Pepsi or Coke in the meantime 😅
I did the buying while sad thing but in my defense I was sad because my watch was stolen. I just had to buy it again. I felt violated like the thief had control over my enjoyment of life because they had taken my watch from me 😭. I bought another one and I love it.
Such a great video. If only it was a few days earlier. I just missed an opportunity on a watch I really wanted, was really sad and got a placeholder watch. I don’t really regret it so much since I found many things to like with the new piece. Back to saving up again. 😅
Wait, there’s a reason not to buy a great watch? 😂 Ah, just kidding. This is some great solid advice! For me these three rules always applied: Never buy if it’s not financially sound, if it’s just to flex, or because it’s a hype on social media.I also agree with your placeholder rule, but tbh I never considered buying ‘something else’. Just save and wait or don’t buy if it’s financially stupid. That also excludes hommage watches for me. To sum up: Only buy what you love and can afford. 😎
My issue is buying watches without trying them in person just because it checks all the boxes on paper and in photos/video. It’s often difficult to get hands on with pieces but it’s worth a few months wait if you can get it on wrist first.
Especially as most online shops don't mention the lug to lug size. That could be an unpleasant surprised for those who didn't checked that out elsewhere in advance. Especially with some brand (like Nomos) that have very long lugs.
Brit you and your husband get more calls than i have had in 5 years 😂. Us normal Human beings dont have to save our money for the right moment.. as they dont come often 😂
I buy almost exclusively vintage watches for prices that I know I am likely to get when I sell again so it does not matter if I get a watch that don't really appeal to me, then I just sell it, no harm done.
On the money subject, if suddenly one finds themselves cash flush, don’t rush out and quickly buy. Stop, breathe, think about the watch you truly want, and then commence with the purchase.
In the morning I’ll be buying a 2019 sub, a 114060, I’ve been pressing my nose up against watch shop windows for decades, now I can comfortably afford one, 24 years ago my mum was posting £20 notes to me so I could buy food. Funny how things change isn’t it? ❤️
Lol!! That is always a flashing neon sign that you shouldn't buy another! .... But will you listen to the flashing neon sign....? that's another question altogether!
I bought a "placeholder" and I'm glad I did. My first automatic was a Vostok K-35, a big and thick piece. Being an automatic, it just begged to be powered by being worn. But it was too big, to grotesque. I fell in love with a Seiko Baby Alpinist, but it was expensive and I wanted to wait a year to save up and calm down. I fell out of love with it and got into a Rolex Explorer instead. A suitable copy came up: Tisell. Sapphire, great lume, it even has a glide lock. So, I got it. My daily driver. And I love it. Half a year later, I lost my job. I fell in love with the Alpinist again. I don't think I would ever buy something more expensive. I know the movement isn't that good for the price, but nothing else is as pretty. When the money is right again, I'm getting that Seiko. What will I do with my Tisell? Who knows. Maybe it's different enough to stay. Maybe not, so I'll let it go. We'll see.
Everybody says don't buy a placeholder watch and don't buy a watch just because other people recommend it. I got a 40% off coupon from Kohl's and with that discount got a Seiko 5 GMT for $240. I wouldn't have bought the watch but at that price it is too good to pass up. While this isn't the same thing as a Rolex Explorer GMT most people probably won't notice the difference. The first watch I really fell in love with was the Seiko Alpinist SPB155 with green dial. I would rather much have that cheaper Seiko than a Rolex Explorer.
@@Klingonmastr Anything more expensive than one can save up for in a year is only for fools. But I do want that SPB157. And I see all baby Alpinists disappearing from the stores. What's it gonna be? Is there a new version on the horizon, or is it gonna be a JDM model, just like the Mini Turtle?
What an amzing video and great advice. You really need to have some super power discipline for not picking up "that" watch. Not gonna lie, I have picked up items because I really did not want to go home empty handed, didn't have buyers remourse, but it really did not fill barren cavern in the pit of my stomach I had for not getting my first choice.
I don’t know if they are actually “placeholders”, yet I have watches that I wear only once or twice a year. But I feel it’s reasonable not to use them more than that. If it’s pieces from the 60’s and 70’s, or my most valuable pieces (emotionally, not financially), or even my Star Wars watch, cause I really dig it yet it’s not for most occasions. And I do buy watches when I’m sad. It simply makes me happy, so I say what the f, go for it!
this is such a great video! as someone still newer to watches, all these tips are so helpful to making sure i get the watches that i actually want in my collection, for myself! and also save thousands of dollars in the process 😅. great video britt!
The "flexing" is also for anyone making content, conceiving of how they would present the new piece and how that would play with their audience. I got a Bulova Computron for no other reason than how I thought that it should be seen. It's not something that I want to wear, so I got it for the wrong reasons. This parasocial addiction about being online and pretending that strangers are your friends is something I have to fight against. The hard truth is that nobody matters and the more presumptuous we get about the cult of personality the further we get from being in touch with reality.
That Explorer looks so much like your OP. I'm a tad perplexed as to what you see in it. Glad you didn't bust your budget on it, and I know that accident has been a while, but great to see that you have healed.
