No joke, I got home from work, looked around my kitchen, and thought "what a beautiful day to drink a smash. Let me see if Anders has a video for that" and I log onto RU-vid, and behold! This top-tier video had dropped 6 minutes ago. Thanks for the great content, Anders, and thanks for your psychic powers!
I just turned 21 in October and I can’t drink beer because I have celiac, but I’ve quickly found that the Whiskey smash is one of my favorite cocktails
The one with blueberries and thyme should be called Thyme After Thyme (because first you shake thyme up with the other ingredients, then you strain it and add a thyme sprig at the end).
Ok this bourbon blackberry smash is one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long while. Sweet and tart, refreshing. Delicious. Thank you for this Anders!
Local blackberries are so ripe and juicy right now here in Oregon. I made the Bourbon Blackberry Smash tonight with Four Roses and my wife said it was the best cocktail I've ever made. Thank you!
Peach and Sage alongside the Bourbon Blackberry Smash are definitely going to be explored this summer. I was not aware of smashes but now you've started something. Thank you Anders!
I watched this, put my kids to bed, and told my wife I had to go to the store before it closed to buy fruit and herbs. I was not disappointed. Blackberry mint was good, but peach sage just amazing!
I am planning a cocktail dinner party but was thinking about cocktails I can easily batch. How did it go making individual smashes? We're you at the bar all evening?
@@brianherman503 I made 2 cocktails at a time for the smashes. I think it was the most time consuming of all the cocktails I made. I started with this one as my guests arrived, so no one was waiting too much.
See now these cocktails are my jam - it’s the right time of year and you know what, all I’m missing is some fruit rather than an obscure spirit that’ll cost me £40 to have gathering dust until the next time I make something really specific…… nice, I’ll be making all of these, thanks Anders 👌🏻
If you can find arctic blueberries from Alaska or Canada, they have purple flesh and a whole heck of a lot more flavour than the white flesh, borderline flavourless variety you normally find in stores
@@TKGentryArt I believe they might also be sold as bilberries in the US? Might find some in the frozen section, there are some finnish companies that have a really good method for freezing them where they preserve both flavour and healthy anti-oxidants and the like
I'm definitely getting some fresh fruit to try these tonight! I think it would be great if you do a video on adapting a couple of classic cocktails into an icecream recipe! I've tried doing a couple with liquid nytrogen and have enjoyed it a lot, but certainly would be awesome to have a video with your adaptations since you have a great sense of taste and knowledge. Obviously could be a recipe that could be made with a regular ice cream maker. Hope you give it a thought. Cheers! And have a great weekend.
The Rum and Gin ones definitely have my attention the most, followed by the Peach Tequila one. Lets be real though, I'm probably gonna be making all of them in the near future!
Awesome content. I really appreciate your highlighting the versatility of the smash formula and encouraging your viewers to explore. Btw, I also thought at one point that I’d invented the gin basil smash 😂
Sage can be mild? Some sage advice - I've found that it can be one of the most powerful herbs, and a little can go a very very long way. Maybe we have different sages.
The selection of smash recipes in this video is fantastic. From the classic and invigorating Berry Smash to the exotic and tropical Pineapple Coconut Smash, each cocktail offers a unique combination of flavors that perfectly captures the essence of summer. The creativity and thought put into these recipes are evident, making them a must-try for any cocktail enthusiast.
Hey man! Just discovered your channel and am loving the light hearted and fun but passion filled craft you are sharing. Full disclosure, I don't drink alcohol at all, but my wife is a huge fan of mocktails and drinking fancy NA drinks, so I'm learning as much as I can from professionals like you so I can set up a small mocktail station at home. Overkill probably but I am a fan of what you do. Keep it up buddy! And thank you for the education
What I love about this video and this idea is that we're given the original base of the Whiskey Smash, and we're now given the opportunity to change things up a bit while keeping that same base. I think I might just go out tomorrow to buy a few different fruits/berries and try out these. Maybe not all... We'll see :)
here in Brazil our classic smash is, of course, the caipirinha. the original recipe is made with lime and cachaça, but we make caiṕirinhas with all sorts of different fruits (berries, pinapple, passion fruit, you name it), and with vodka, rum or sake in place of the cachaça as well.
It would be cool to have all 4 spirits, 4 herbs, 4 sweeteners, and 4 fruits ready to go at a party and you get to choose your smash combo. Or put them on a randomizer. 256 different drinks right there.
I like to infuse the fresh herbs into my simple ahead of time for quicker cocktails. Super easy way to have the herb flavors release over low heat while the sugars melt.
Great video Anders! Thanks for the Tequila idea for the wife. I love using Rosemary and Gin. I did an Elderberry Jam Gin Smash a few weeks ago. Great way to use up extra jam or preserves.
For all my midwesterners out there: the strawberry rhubarb smash (inspired by your strawberry basil smash): muddle half lemon and two large strawberries, add 1 oz rhubarb-infused simple syrup (1:1 sugar/water), 2 oz gin. Shake and double strain over large block ice (don't want to lose that tartness too soon). Might try a mint garnish but didn't have any on hand. Also tried with rum as base but preferred the gin.
I make a really similar blueberry smash that I call a Blimey. Basically the same recipe, but swap out the simple syrup for ginger liqueur. Adds more proof, but hey, it's summer!
Really appreciate your stuff man. So easy to follow. So informative. I’m very much an amateur at mixology. Just started building my own home bar and I’ve done many of your recipes. So, thank you!
Made the bourbon blackberry and mint smash tonight and damn was that delicious. We only had frozen blackberries on hand but they worked well. Next time we host something we're planning on getting the ingredients for all four so we can provide the option of each.
What a great idea…”mixing it up & keeping it fresh”…I love the versatility and flexibility to swap ingredients and herbs!👌👌😁😁….I will definitely try the rum strawberry basil smash! Great work Anders-CHEERS !🍹🍹
Awesome Anders! We’re huge “Smash“ fans. Been making the bourbon blackberry smash for years, but with Demerara syrup. I’ve also made the strawberry basil version, but with bourbon or rye. Same with blueberry - with bourbon or rye. Basically, you can do all of these with whiskey.
Wow! I’ve made the 1st 3, mint/basil/thyme. I thought the blackberry mint was awesome, but the combination of thmye and gin blew my mind! Awesome drinks!!!!
We just made the blackberry one and were on the fence about the maple syrup. It is just outstanding! Thanks so much for the work you guys put in and share.
Hey Anders! The bourbon and maple syrup combo is definitely straight from heaven, and then you throw in blackberries! Have you tried the Second Circle? Bourbon, Port, angostura bitters and maple syrup. It’s become go-to cocktail, especially with a rye-heavy bourbon.
I like making an orange blended sherbet cocktail. I use vanilla whipped vodka, orange triple sec, simple syrup, half and half, splash of orange juice, blend it with some ice in a blender and top with whipped cream and an orange slice.
Such a great idea for summer man! Thank you for this video! Other idea of combo: Gin and raspberry is life, and adding aquafaba/white eggs in the smash cockail is 🫶
I never comment on any bartending video like this but this video was awesome, every drink you made sounds amazing. I make drink’s similar to these. Ill mix peach and thyme, blueberry and mint, gin cucumber lime mint…awesome job
I didn't even think I liked whiskey until recently, but I can't say I've had a better drink than the Bourbon Blackberry Smash, using a proper dark Canadian maple syrup. What an amazing blend of flavours. Exquisite!
Hi Anders! It’s been a while since I’m around here, back to Pandemic and I’d say you give me a new hobby! This clip is awesome, I’ve tried now two of four (Bourbon Blackberry and Blueberry Thime) and are really really amazing flavors… what about “The Herbal Berry Smash”. Regards from Monterrey, Mexico 🇲🇽
Already tried the blueberry thyme yesterday. Love it but next time i will go heavier on the thyme. Tequila mint smash is also great. Recipe is similar to the gin basil: Half ounce agave, one ounce limejuice, two ounces blanco tequila and a good amount of mintleaves.
I was positive 3/4 of an ounce of maple in the Blackberry Smash was going to overpower it. No way! As someone who finds maple syrup overpowering, outside of plate of pancakes and bacon, this is one of the best uses of it in a cocktail that I've had!
