Excellent video. I would like to suggest one more option for step 2. You can also use the 5th of the chord that you're going into. For example, if the next chord is Dm7, you can use an A on beat 4 of the preceding bar.
Hell Jaz ç Great video! As usual. I've been following your channel for a long time now, all the way from France. I find your videos amazing; always very informative and inspiring. I was wondering what software or settings you use to scroll through the music scores in your videos. By the way, this could be an interesting video topic to share, I think. In any case, I would be very interested in it."
Hey, thanks! For this particular video, the score was done in Sibelius and did a little video editing to make it look that way. For my other videos, I use Soundslice. It's a powerful tool, you should check it out! :-) I agree, that would be an interesting topic for a future video!
Nice, simple explanation for common changes. Really well done. I’d love to see what you’d do with a more stagnant modal vamp, like Miles’ So What. Or a prolonged repeating ii7-V7 vamp like Phish plays (not technically jazz but improvised and almost always interesting).
Jaz!!!! All these years later man, wow, cool to see you on here. Was just searching for some introductory bassline construction content to send to a student and I just came across your video. Great stuff. Hope you’re doing well!
Wow long time no see! That's so funny you came across one of my videos. I hope it was helpful for your student. 🙂 I'll send you a message IG for a quick catch-up!
Amazing I'm glad I could help! The next step after this is to learn your own walking bass compositions. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help. 🙂
This is a great video but I am a bit confused on how this is the melody for autumn leaves by Nat King Cole and I wasn’t able to make it make since. Can you post in the comment section the version you are playing
