I know I’m a little late to the party but I’ve watched a couple of your videos and you give really good advice! Our team didn’t have a coach for throwing this year and I’m heading to regional competition tomorrow (somehow) I just want to say thank you for everything!
I just watched the full tutorial on how to throw the shotput and led me here. Very informative video, really appreciate it 😊 Hope I can do the full rotation soon
Thanks man! This video helped me a lot. I was a powerlifter who transitioned into weight lifting, now I'm transitioning into shot put. This video really helped me nail the rotation
Thank you John for another incredibly informative video. I will make sure that all of my throwers in Thrower Strong Training watch, study, and drill this video. I really hate that we missed your Virginia session. Hopefully you and your coach can make an appearance sometime in the future. Maybe we can get you down for the throwers only polar bear shot put throwdown in January.
Is there any benefit to getting as low as possible as long as you're rigid to create more drive at the launch. Are you low as possible or low as comfortable; or could you go lower?
Can you make a video explaining a combination of gym and training, I have to teach myself this sport because nobody can help me get better around my country
I just have one question, if anyone ever see this. Isn't stepping outside of the ring a scratch/failed attempt? I just need clarification because I plan on using this method to go to the Arizona state finals. If anyone would reach out, that'd be lifesaving!
This is what I found: The athlete may touch the inside surface of the circle or stop board, but must not touch the top or outside of the circle or stop board, or the ground beyond the circle. Limbs may however extend over the lines of the circle in the air.
Hey, this might seem weird but I’m having serious trouble with the glide. I’m able to do the spin and basic throw, but my coach is giving me the shit for my glide. Any pointers.
Senior in HS never have thrown im doing the power throw and i tried glide but cant throw it as far, I hopeing this helps as I have district next week thanks!
@@Jd15299 well my best is a 41 but at district got no sleep the day before and only did 30 and did not make it. I did make it for discus thou and only threw for 2 weeks. Lol
What are the benefits of taping your hands together, as you have in the video. Does it help flick the shot, or is it there to give your throw more strength?
The goal with taping fingers together is to support them, as more force is applied to the shotput it puts a lot of stress on the fingers. If nothing is applied to them, most likely the fingers will break or tendons will tear.
I personally think that if you put a more linear intent once you hit that South African position, you’ll hit those positions a lot better, and you’ll be more powerful
I've gotten the best advice from this channel as someone who just started competing in shot put a few weeks ago as a "senior" (50+). I completely understand why the video had to be shot this way. With one camera, it seems like the best choice. I think it would have also helped if there could have been a few overhead shots. At times it became a little difficult to figure out the body positioning at the end of each of the steps, going into the next, and to nail down the orientation of the circle.
A.J I appreciate your support! I agree, some overhead shot would be really helpful. I think getting a drone is in my future. That will help create some really useful shots.
