Taylor thank you so much for sharing this with us! I feel like I started the same way: chasing holidays and not doing Market research 😅 now I feel more confident and have shifted my mindset to do things differently ❤

I think your idea of simplifying the product lines is smart. Like you, we listened to the "gurus" and chased anything we could at first, especially holidays - bad advice! Many similar holiday shirts are available at Walmart and Hobby Lobby, and it is very hard to compete with big box prices. We started shops 2 and 3 and focused first on the ideal customer. It took waaaay less time to get sales. I'd suggest thinking of the customer first and streamlining products. And lastly, emphasize both quality and quantity in Etsy, but never publish a listing without quality. Bad for your shop's brand image. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Taylor, thank you for making this video, it’s super informational! Just a quick note, would you consider getting a mic? There’s this weird echoish sound that makes what you’re saying a little distracting. I think your voice would be so crisp with a mic and we wanna hear what you gotta say! ❤
@TaylorPOD

Thank you so much! I am working on it :) I've tested a few different mics and haven't found one I love yet. But did just order a new one and hopefully it will be the winner!

Love that you are starting a new shop and we can follow along 👍. For taxes paperwork, at what level of receipt do you keep for POD orders. I.e. keep invoice for each order? Or it's sufficient to download a month worth of orders that has pricing detail of product costs,order numbers.

I have hired a bookkeeper for my business (has saved me a huge headache 😅) and he requests my monthly statements from Etsy and from each of the print providers I use! He also has access to view my bank statements for other business purchases like software subscriptions, purchasing mockups, and things like that!

I actually do the personalized card from Printify already with a QR code discount! I just have to figure out how to set up an Everbee email list next! I also have Hello Custom but haven't utilized it yet. Thank you for your content! You are extremely helpful! XO

Great video! Would you be open to making a tutorial on the insert with the QR code for email lists? I have Everbee but have no idea how to make the landing for people to click on the email link.

Yes absolutely! I will be sure to show in the new shop series how I create the inserts. I also do have this video that shows how to create a landing page that might help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RN1i4HqSj9o.htmlsi=Sh5CTPrLKPs3V81b

Could you possibly create a post showing how to personalize or customize manually? EX: blank T-shirt, allowing customers to choose what they want on shirt.

Thanks, Taylor! I am a little confused at the very common advice to limit products in my shop to just a few types, or a single niche... When I shop on Etsy, I typically look first at the item I entered in the search, and if I make a selection, I immediately begin "rummaging" through the other tabs for other interesting merchandise, and usually buy more things. But if, for instance, I buy a phone case from a shop that only sells phone cases, I just leave the shop after purchasing it because I don't need two phone cases. Am I just weird? This is my normal shopping pattern over my lifetime (61 years), and it holds true for me whether I am buying a t-shirt on Etsy for a gift, or running into the drugstore for Q-tips. I would be very interested in your thoughts, if you have time to answer this comment. Have an amazing day, Taylor! ❤

The reason I recommend this - isn't for the customer, it's for me as a seller. For me personally, having a specific focus when growing a shop helps me when scaling. I am able to assess the data in a more precise way and make adjustments to grow. Thinking of it like a science experiment - when you begin having too many 'variables' your data and results are a lot messier and not very accurate. I compare this to having too many different product types and different niches all in one shop. Is it doable? Yes 100%. Is it the most efficient way to grow a sustainable/highly profitable shop? Far from it! Hope this gives some clarity - at least to why I do it this way! :) I hope you have an amazing day as well!

I have just started my shop and I was looking at doing more personalization but with Etsy new guidelines about needing the first picture of a personalized listing being the actual product, what are you planning to do in order to scale a business with those requirements
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 2 месяца назад
You are still fine to use mockups with personalized products. Etsy just requires that it shows a final version. You cannot use placeholder text like “Custom text here” or “your name here”. Instead you would want to show an example showing what the text could say or the name you may include for the personalization. I usually do a example name of “sally” or something like that to show a finished product.

Hi Taylor, Have you ever tried the "break even pricing strategy" that some other RU-vidrs talk about?
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 3 месяца назад
I haven’t! But maybe it’s something I’ll try with some items in this new shop 🤔 I have always priced for my goal profit from day 1 with any listing I create.

When you open a new shop. Do you use the same email or is everything separate?
@TaylorPOD

You have to create a new account which requires a different email.

There is no way I’m ever attempting to open a new Etsy shop. Etsy might shut down ALL your shops.
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 3 месяца назад
Majority of the time the reason accounts are shut down are for providing incorrect information or violating TOS. I have opened 3 brand new shops in total over the last year and a half with no issue. There’s a lot of fear mongering about Etsy randomly suspending accounts.
@Straingelove
@Straingelove 3 месяца назад
@@TaylorPOD ah, could be but I know when I opened my other shops they all got shut down. Everything was entered right and to my knowledge nothing was violated. So many new shops get suspended too, I’m way too distrusting of Etsy I guess

I have 4 Etsy shops that sell different products. I’ve never had any issues. I know many people with multiple shops with no issues. I’m not sure why you are worried about that because it isn’t against any Etsy rules ☺️ you just need a different email address but that’s all. Good luck!
@Straingelove
@Straingelove 2 месяца назад
@@michelelivingston8 i just know so many that got suspended. There’s even many RU-vid videos of ppl opening new shops and Etsy shutting them all even the old established ones. It happened to me so it’s not something I came up with either. I’m glad nothing ever happened to you but it’s probably 50/50
