At long the last, the final section, Book Four, of 'The Beetle' by Richard Marsh, written in 1897.
The final section is narrated by Augustus Champnell, a gentleman who happens to be a friend of Atherton, the son of the Earl of Glenlivet, and also a confidential agent. Very handy for Lessingham you might think. It's a race against time then to find Marjorie, and virtually every mode of transport known to Victorian man, is employed. We meet guttersnipes, a Limehouse police inspector, a dodgy landlady, and an 80 year old property tycoon, not to mention cabbies, policemen, engine drivers, stokers and sundry railway officials.
What happens to Marjorie, to The Beetle, to Lessingham and Dora Grayling? You will find the answer to these questions and many more in this, the final episode of The Beetle.
It is read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.
