4 Tips - How to SETUP your Flight Computer

Thank You very much for the tips, Stefan! Very useful. Many people seem to consider XCsoar to complex but I find the software quite intuitive, being new to it. Definitely seen much worse...But i am an engineer, perhaps it is different for people from a non technical background. Your advice regarding setting up the modes looking as much alike as possible makes a lot of sense. I am also trying to figure out what I really need, Occams razor, to minimize possible confusion in flight.

Great video I've been using xcsoar with kinetic assistant and msfs but I can't seem to get it to switch to circling mode I've got it running on the pc in vr or I can run it on my phone and use the ip connection. But on either version I can't get it to pick up that I'm circling.

Thank you for posting Stefan. What hardware are you running with XC Soar and which have you tried with it but didn't use?

I really like XCSoar as well! My phone just gets really hot while in the cockpit in my phone holder. I also need an approved IGC logger so my setup is not ideal. Do you have any suggestions?

In the final glide mode, does it take into account speed and direction of the wind ?

I really wish I could figure out how to get my XC Soar on my phone to connect to my Condor. It has bluetooth and all of that, but for whatever reason I've never been able to successfully configure it to work on Condor. I'm definitely going to check out the profiles you have allowed us to use! Woot! Thanks for that. I'm also curious if the OpenVario or Stefly is needed to have the VNAV profile displayed. Great video an setup! Two questions: 1) It seems like there are two different max. range lines, one brown one blue. Where’s the difference? 2) along the heading there are numbers ranging from 7 to 192, depending on zoom. Are those seconds, km,…? Thank you!!!

Hi Stefan, I just purchased a Ventus C with an XC Soar open vario installed. The unit is running Top Hat but I'd like to delete it and install XC Soar. Can you provide information on how to do it? Thanks.

I'm curious how you set up your colors. I can't seem to find a set of colors that are as visible as the ones you use

Some great tips here. I'm surprised how many devices still use serial, though - has anyone built a computer with a serial port in the last 15-20 years? :D

Is there some kind of thermal hunting auto pilot?

Have you ever tried Tophat, its Xcsoar but rearranged menus more suitable for gliding,.

To start XCSoar i have created a XCI file for the events as seen in the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LUrBjh9bPwM.html System starts with Flight Setup: ballast/water, bugs, QNH and temp (0:34). You can change the settings of the flight here. Than it shows the Task Menu (0:45) allowing to select or edit a task.. When closing Task menu the logger menu pops up with the choosen settings. You an now decide to start a logger yes or no (0:52) Finally you see a checklist with 2 pages. This file you can edit yourself and add multiple pages including info you may need in flight (0:59). XCSoar is now ready for flight. For this video I scroll through 5 pages I have setup in XCSoar. You can see the page name in the bottom left of the screen. 1. Task 2. Thermal 3.Cruising 4. Flarm 5. System The info boxes are modified for each page. You can change this to your own liking. Have fun watching. I left the annoying music out ;-)

I mean no offense but I think the title of this video should have been, How I setup my flight computer for me, not How to setup your flight computer. To be honest I learned more by watching videos put out by M24Tom here on RU-vid than watching this. His was the first video I found that showed how to setup XCSoar that I could understand.
