The guy who wrote the Cloudpeak Wilderness story will write a great book I’m sure, as long as he refrains from saying “if you catch my drift” 300 times 😂 It was super interesting and had me wanting to know more!
Can someone please tell him that the phrase is meant to be used with euphemisms? I thought he was banging his friend until he mentioned them being like brothers, because he used “if you catch my drift” incorrectly/unnecessarily. Also, he wasted so much time talking about irrelevant things. He could have started with, “My best friend and I were hiking in/at….” As an editor, he wouldn’t be a good writer (not for non-fiction, anyway) because of the superfluous nature of his writing.
That Cloud Peak Wilderness story gave me the creeps. I have driven through those mountains dozens of times. There are a few creepy, almost abandoned rest areas along the roads. I don't use them.
Gfs have come and went, jobs, cars, homes, the only thing that is same in my life now days, Let’s read! Always been there, that’s why for me, it feels like family! Love you man!
I was zoned out on a road trip until I heard you say "Calder Oil Fields", and it immediately snapped me back into reality. Growing up in South Texas, the stories are familiar. I hope we can solve these one day.
To the guys tracking at home of the wild dog family with the "normal" girl, mind your own business, leave it alone. Heroes and happy endings are in the movies.
"are you a journalist?" "No. Anything you say will be between you and me." *Proceeds to write the entire story on the front page of the internet with the intentions of writing a book about it*
To the gentleman who was hiking with his friend in Buffalo who came across the "odd" family- I am very interested in this story and would love to chat...- Jennifer (Albany, NY)
A small detail that made the first story hard to believe is that the protagonists who are meant to be very experienced backpackers didn't carried any water purification tools, that's like one of the very first lessons you learn when you have to plan around. If OP wants to write a book he can't go the "oh no, the two of us forgot our filters" route, even if they forget to bring their filters to Wyoming the first thing they would have probably done is to buy at least one more, (yes they're that vital) or at the very least buy cheap water purification tablets.
The first story has stark similarities of the Whittaker family that Mark Laita did a few docu-shorts on. One family member is non-verbal, had a bark-like tic and loved small dogs.
In the first story I'm guessing that young girl was kidnapped. There is no other way she could have learned to speak when the people she lived with could only bark. At some time in her life she had to have had a real family and normal surroundings where she heard words in order to speak them properly.
Mmmhmm. It would definitely be the case that she was kidnapped as a young child with some ability to speak/knowledge of words but not full fluency. Would explain why she spoke broken English and looked nothing like everyone else. There's no way in hell she just happened to be a genetic miracle and learned to speak English in the midst of a family of inbred chinless blonde people who bark and speak gibberish. (Suspense of disbelief is being employed here. As in the thing that allows you to interact with fiction and unverifiable non-fiction as if it were real.)
I live in AZ and can confirm a bark scorpion sting is not even hospital worthy unless you have an allergic reaction. Just keep the stung spot above heart level for a few hours and you're good, but baby bark scorpion stings can be fatal as adult only let out some venom to incapacitate. The babies however let it all out. Also a tip if anyone comes across a bark scorpion don't crush them they carry the babies on their back so crushing them sends the babies everywhere and now you got a new problem.
My dad is a biologist and has heard of people out on field work in the desert seeing a specific hallucination of a child who finds them and runs away, and the person runs to try and find them and they never do. It's probably because you're lonely and your brain needs stimulation, plus some dehydration maybe. It just reminded me a bit of the first story.
As someone who got stung by a bark scorpion, you know when part of your body falls asleep and when you try waking it up it has like a tickling feeling all around it? Instead of tickling, it replaces with an unbearable pain and it gets worse by every pulse. And that’s from the baby scorpions!
Everything you tell me is off the record. As long as you count the internet as off the record. Because I’m gonna tell the entire internet with enough detail to lead directly to you
I’d love to hear more about the first story if it’s real, that’s so fucking interesting, I wish the stuthors friend described the “father” better, if that’s real that’s horrifying…
The first story... wow... to not stay at the stream for a day to completely rehydrate is insane. To then wait so many days not finding another source and to let yourself be 1.5 days away from wateris asking for it.
This was a very good video, Joel, if I may. We've not been formally introduced but it is the name I see others using when commenting. The stories were well worth the 55:00 minutes of my life that I invested while listening. I'm a new member of your Patreon, RU-vid, and podcasts as well. 😊
I'm from Iowa and even I know that big scorpions are not the dangerous ones, it's the little ones I've heard are the bad ones. At least according to my friend from Texas lol
Almost got your first million subs! Awesome man! For years now, hours, and hours, I’ve listen to you, by far my favorite not just scary stories reader, because I don’t listen to anyone else, my favorite internet companion! I like live reads makes me feel like I’m not alone, when listen to them, I hope it never becomes a job, and you always enjoy it! Because your the goat
It’s truly unfortunate that the killer in the 3rd story was never caught, but If this killer is dead hopefully him/her are roasting. And these poor souls are resting peacefully above.
I have taught children in an area where incest was known to occur. It is best to keep your "nose on your face" and not try to interfere in such cases. You just might get your head shot off by interferring. So, I would advise the guy interested in revisiting the Cloudpeak Wilderness family should forget it for safety reasons. He should know that if the police and community are aware of the family and leaves them alone why should a stranger come into the area and start trouble.
Killing Field’s story , Tim Miller went on to start Equusearch to help others locate their missing loved ones. In July of last year He also won a 24 million dollar wrongful death judgment against the man he believes killed his daughter
The first story. Nobody thought to just pack a ton of extra water bottles initially for you leaving for the hike? Why would you rely on a single canteen and river water. Stock up on like eight Aquafina water bottles LOL I’m not understanding. But then again I’m a city girl
He took it real dark with his assumptions about that girl. They don't know if other people were in the house or 😩under the house, passed is probably a better word or their true history. If there were other "people", they didn't see then she could have gotten her features from that other half. Genetics are weird at times.
That last story was actually very lucky. I've lived in AZ my whole life and the worst sting I've seen was when my friend was bit by a Brown Recluse Spider, the venom actually dissolves tissue (which non of us knew) so a day or so later when it still hurt like hell and wasn't getting better she showed us the bite and with a press a lot of....um...stuff came out and she had to go straight to the ER. The desert has some creepy-freaking-crawlies in it.
Thank you, Joel, for all you do. Great stories and right on time. And to the gentleman in the first story, a good title for your book... Leave Well Enough Alone.
Cloudpeak Wilderness is really fricken scary to me because I live an hour away from the Big Horns, in Thermopolis, WY! Well, not too scary because I'm not a hiker, BUT that little girl came from somewhere, some other family. I have heard of a child born "normal" after so much inbreeding, but she was probably taken because there weren't any females left to breed with "if you catch my drift" (sorry had to 😜). It's not funny, but I needed to lighten the mood some, or mine anyway, for that matter.
The first story is really good I love watching your videos I watched them for years but if I was there I wouldn't have left without knowing if that girls ok
That first story in Buffalo wyoming creeps me tf out. I live around 3 hours away from there, it surprises me a little that there is a family(s) out here like that but nonetheless it’s still creepy.
I really liked these stories. The cabin in the woods with the inbred family that wouldn't leave the wilderness area, and the 1 dark hair hazel eyed girl that seemed normal, It could be a miracle this is true, if that's not the case, I'd imagine her bio parents were eaten by the cookoo wood people.
