Kudos for the Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Patlarny Abstinent Life Principle (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one of a kind product for getting rid of a drinking problem minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy after many years got amazing success with it.

I go to AA and think it’s helped me immensely, but these videos also make sense. The mindset that alcohol is literally zero beneficial and poisonous, and understanding the conditioning we have to alcohol acceptance and understanding it, makes it much easier to steer clear of the booze. 33 days sober for the first time in 20+ years, and it truly feels fantastic. I feel like myself, I feel confident, I feel like I won’t put problems off. Not drinking improves your life immensely.

The facts are that tens of millions of people got their lives back with AA. At a time when nothing else worked! This is not a rumour, this is proven✌️
@gwillis01
@gwillis01 2 года назад
@@eamonnmurphy5385 Saying that AA is the only way is like saying nothing good has ever been invented since 1950. In the 1930s when there were fewer choices for overcoming alcohol abuse, the brand new hopeful approach on the horizon was AA. Other approaches to overcoming alcohol abuse have been discovered, even though AA is a totally effective and valid approach for some people.
@eamonnmurphy5385
@eamonnmurphy5385 2 года назад
@@gwillis01 Thanks, AA is not the only way, but has the best record by far. The problem with all these new ideas is it's hard to choose between them, there are so many and the numbers are expanding all the time! You could be dead before you find something that works. Also, I find it hard to believe that there is not a correlation between character and addiction. Studies have shown that most who were addicted in the Vietnam war came back to live normal lives, a small percentage went on to use at home, about 5%.If the drug use is the problem, why did all these men recover?

Hey Leon, it is crazy to me that most ppl do see alcohol NOT as a drug but just as a fun thing to do. Here in Germany there is a huge drinking culture of beer and wine. As a matter of fact I do live in a town where we have the WORLDS BIGGEST WINE FEST ... It is so crazy, ppl do consider you crazy if you are not drinking at all. I think it`s really sad that ppl have to put poison in their system to have fun, when you do think about it ... it`s so sickening.
@LeonSylvester

I am going to Germany in less than two months and will have to contend with this drinking culture at some point during my trip. All I know is that, if I succeed at staying sober throughout the entirety of my stay, then I will have six months of sobriety under my belt. Don't know how I'm gonna pull it off, but thanks to these videos I know I stand a chance...

You are SO right, the problem is the drug not the person, whether that drug be alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine or processed ''food''...this perspective changes everything....stop the drug, the poison, and you stop the problem. So appreciate your insight and clarity Leon!

But there's this... It's hard to explain. I can be SO certain "I'm not going to drink today". And then it's like... Something takes over my body and I'm on my way to the shops. And it's like, "I don't want to drink! Why am I going? I could just turn home now" But... I just don't go home.
@キラキラくりくり頭

A heart... That's your answer. I'm not entirely sure you're qualified for this. Don't get me wrong. I think you have a great impact on younger people who are slipping into alcoholic ways. And I genuinely hope that you are able to help those people. But having watched several of your videos... It's all a bit fluffy isn't it? I think that you can help people who are on course to becoming alcoholics, but for those who are already suffering...

I agree, this video is really not helpful to people that have a serious problem with alcohol. If anything its more harmful because some people are alcoholics and do have personality problems that need to be fixed in order to help them.

I’ve experienced the same thing Keith while I attended AA I came to the conclusion I was “powerless” although I’m powerless once I start drinking, I cannot wait for something outside of myself to help me make a decision to not drink. We have free will even someone with a herion addiction which is a far more physically addictive drug has a choice go to rehab, or get high. The thing is the power comes from within don’t wait on a miracle or Santa clause to help you. You have to realize it’s destroyed your life and you MUST make a decision just for today not to drink or use and wait as it becomes easier everyday. THE CHOICE ONLY LEAVES US WHILE WERE INTOXICATED because we’re not cognitive and our decision making part of the brain is numbed we also as addicts tend to not stop at a few. Stopping for today well That’s not a higher power that’s just you digging deeper into a higher consciousness within yourself and making a decision to do something other than drink tonight.

You need to find a strong, durable why that will motivate you to improve yourself. You need to talk back quite sternly to that demon voice in your head that says "One drink won't hurt you. Just have one." or it says "You deserve a treat. Why not go get some refreshment at the local tavern?"

Thanks Leon this is something I have thought for so long in my battle with booze. If someone commits manslaughter and then feels they have to repeatably and forever tell people in the same situation and keep reminding yourself and others what Ive done and they have done it is going to physiologically effect you in a way that will do more harm then good, move forward and be who you are Thanks so much for this.

Yeah calling myself a hopeless alcoholic helped zero the first 15 years. It's only when I started calling myself a lover of exercise, a healthy eater, a spiritual seeker, a good son who likes to spend time with his folks, a climber...that's when I became those things. There was no room for the alcohol because it doesn't relate to all that. When I want to go around people who drink and do hard drugs because I miss the 'connection' I have with them over hard substances, or I miss the 'comfort' of abusing drugs. When I try them I do a lot and theirs consequences...but then I go back to being healthy and doing what I love, and i learn a little more about the 'conditioning' and how im not as happy as when I celebrate with activities that empower me. I think that there was a rebellion that was romantic but the more access there is the more I realize it's not as cool as I thought it was growing up 🤷‍♂️

Read The Freedom Model, if you can come to understand you choose to drink to be happy, and you have the power to choose your level of use and the free will to abstain and/or choose other things to make you happy, you will be better off than wondering why you return to substance use or thinking being around other users has some enhanced effect. The Freedom Model and This Naked Mind. Read them if you don't want to be trapped in addiction and recovery cycles and if you could bring yourself to admit only you have the power to make different choices for yourself.

in observing a few AA fellowship meetings before covid notice some women members in the group flirting comments & noticing the women in the group, single divorced moms are just their not to get sober, their actually showing interest in other members ( older males) in particular, some men doesn't mind it at all, they can't have any relation until after their 1-year sobriety, I find the stories people readout are just made to feel sorry for them so unreal fake. I feel they are looking for a stable partner or long term relationship, even now on zoom they spend half of their day on numerous meetings. for me AA meetings in this group were wasting valuable time, My strong willpower gave me the strength to do it on my own staying positive, active, and not thinking too much, you can quit any time 13 months, the videos I watch really inspires me gives hope, it can be done either way AA or whichever you choose.

New to your channel and have enjoyed the videos that I've seen. I'm happy for you. Regarding the moment when you realize you've been conditioned and can then step away from it - I have not been able to consistently do the same. If I can use poker as an analogy. Players will often know that the best play is to fold a particular hand but, given enough stress and frustration, will decide to try to win that hand despite knowing that it is a losing play in the long-run. If I were to have a particularly stressful day at work for example - if that stress is sufficiently high enough, I would be very vulnerable to crack. And alcohol DOES work in the short-term at relieving stress. In the same way, the frustrated poker player decides to go for the win right there with a bad play in order to relieve his stress in that moment. In both cases we know it's bad in the long-run, yet we do it anyway. That is the challenge.

The success rate in AA is not as it might be claimed. I could see mostly same faces when going to meetings. And, yes, repeating suggestion daily that I am an alcoholic is like adding a record to self image. I have nothing against AA as such that helped me to stay sober for number of years. What really turned me away that otherwise nice and friendly people when becoming so called sponsors turned suddenly in to control freaks: do as I say or else. Not helpful in long term for a person with a low self-esteem. Thanks for the video - really helpful.

What do you mean by step 2 conditioning? I 100% feel relaxed when i drink, its the effect of alcohol, it slows heart rate, and gives euphoria in brain
@anthonymedlin3569
@anthonymedlin3569 3 года назад
90% of this I agree with but though I don’t like calling myself an alcoholic cause I’m attaching myself to a substance. I am more prone to addiction than some, look how many temperate drinkers their are in the world. I am not a temperate drinker. I have an addictive personality that I need to work on making sure I’m mentally and physically healthy enough to not over engage in many dopamine releasing chemicals and activities. Especially drugs and alcohol that I can’t use at all because they don’t create a natural but an unnatural dopamine high. I agree though that don’t need to attach myself to a chemical the rest of my life it’s time to focus on getting back to life. AA is hard to quit because of finding a community replacement. But it’s beyond annoying the “indoctrination” that takes place and many of the ideas I don’t agree with that they claim you can’t stop unless you believe as they do.

Willpower is exhausting..so does this concept mean you just do your homework on why it is not good to drink and subconsciously you start to understand that so then you can let go and quit at the same time

The second thing is when people refer to alcoholism as a disease when they do something stupid. Happens a lot. Their mixing up addiction to a substance with both bad reasoning and poor mental health. How can one relate an addiction to a drug or drink to a bad decision they make when their sober?. That’s the poor conditioning when you believe your different than everyone else and from normal people not just in regards to addiction but innately different mentally and morally.

I don't get cravings. I took a First Principles approach to stopping and I understand alcohol exactly for what it is. The desire to drink simply disappeared.

I think this is all true for you BECAUSE you are not an ALCOHOLIC. You remind me of those who believe you can just will yourself to not be a homosexual.
@thetranspersonalalchemist
@thetranspersonalalchemist Год назад
And yes, addicts of other drugs are considered addicts for the rest of their lives, again, because their brain chemistry has changed, and if they pick up the substance again, they will respond to it like an addict, not like someone having it for the first time. The premise that the word “alcoholic” means that something is wrong with the person, is an unconscious opinion of the creator. By the time someone is addicted to alcohol, they are dependent on it physically (as well as emotionally). -that’s what it means. I have a feeling this guy will take this video down one day when he realizes how misguided some of it is.

sounds like you are a heavy drinker not an alcoholic. an alcoholic can not always stop once they start and or when they do stop they cant stop thinking about it. there is a very clear difference (laid out in the book alcoholics anonymous) a heavy drinker can stop or moderate on their own by doing the things you are talking about. the book says a real alcoholic will inevitably go back to drinking and or be miserable. Alcoholism is progressive (gets worse never better over time even if not drinking) so you may be heavy drinker now but if you pick up in the future you may cross the line to alcoholism. there is a lot more being offered at aa than just not drinking. we deal with that first because if we don't we cant move forward. after that we learn how to live life and be relatively comfortable. on my own i lacked the willpower.

What about withdrawal I'm drinking all day everyday Can't Stop because the withdrawals are so bad because I am a alldayeveryday drinker your video is great but when you drink all day everyday when you try to stop on your own willpower the withdrawals R are too excruciating you make me drink again I hate doing this and I understand what you're saying but what about withdrawal from excessive drinking
@thetranspersonalalchemist

The fact that the nature of an addictive drug is that you take more over time, and that that indicates it is a drug and not that there is wrong with someone, does not mean that the persons body chemistry hasn’t changed and that they are now technically addicted to it. This video is strange because, while some of it makes sense, the premises are not well thought out.

This advice, whilst insightful, is incredibly dangerous. Benzos and alcohol are the two primary drugs that if you just stop when you are addicted, you are at serious risk of seizures and death. Leon, I like your videos but don't underestimate the severity of withdrawal symptoms. People with serious alcohol or benzo dependencies die regularly if they go 'cold turkey'. You need to focus your advice towards certain groups of people with milld to moderate alcohol use disorders. Those with severe dependencies will die following this advice.
