In the past, only an ordained Catholic priest could physically hold the Eucharist and we had to kneel at the altar rail to receive on the tongue. We have greatly abused this sacrament and it breaks my heart to see Jesus given such disrespect day in and day out.

Yes that is right. Only an ordained clergy member may touch the Holy Eucharist because his hands are consecrated.

It's making Jesus reachable to ordinary people. Thus, receiving Communion with hand on top with the other is now the permitted. Only the practice is changed but the sanctity of the Holy Communion remains the same.

I wish we had more quiet time after receiving communion. Nowadays we seem to have to fill every moment with singing….allows no time for reflection or to hear Jesus speaking to us ❤

I actually asked this to the diocese of Las Cruces for 1 of its’ churches & was dismissed. The same song is so loudly screamed without reverence or any attempt to allow contemplation from the beginning of communion to a couple stanzas after. It is not even close to allow for any contemplation. I often try to sit as far back as possible in order to pray at daily mass. I thought I was the only one having this dilemma.

I agree heartedly! I grew up in England in the 1950s when we had to fast from midnight if we wished to receive the Most Blessed Sacrament. This applied from the age of seven if we had made our first Holy Communion. If we went to an evening Mass, then it was fasting for three hours before.

A lot of people hide behind the bliss of ignorance. Sadly, most of them were born Catholics and arrogantly assume themselves exempted by the rules. It really is a shame to see converts do a lot better than some of us who are two, three, four, five generations of legacy failing to set better examples of ourselves.

Do u mean u will become a Roman Catholic next year? Anglicans believe they are catholics but they are not. They are protestant. They do not have a Priesthood. They only Ministers of the Gospel as declared by Cromwell in the reign of Elizabeth I. Archbishop Welby is a christian but he is not a Priest. That's not your grandmother's thing. That's the rule of the roman church. It's a very weak rule, practically a joke. Roman's used to fast from midnight the night before the way we byzantine catholics do. No food or water until receiving Holy Communion so that our Lord Himself breaks our fast. That's how it's supposed to be, back when Rome believed in the Apostolic faith.

The Catholic Church has been lacking in its teachings to its members. It seems the clergy have been assuming that if people occupy a pew, they know the teachings of the Church and of the apostles.
@davidculp-mp5hi
@davidculp-mp5hi 9 месяцев назад
No the Church shouldn't. We don't learn the practice of our religion from the internet.Most of these rules are from the dark ages. Vatican II had it right. Quit engaging in meaningless rituals for the sake of ritual. They are a mockery to God and designed to make you feel righteous. Focus on God's righteousness and not your own. To do otherwise is selfish and insincere. Mass is not theater for one to show off with rituals that were never meant to be. Most of these practices were cooked up by crazy, ignorant Catholics who don't know squat about their faith. Be real about your faith and not phony!
@catbird7007
@catbird7007 9 месяцев назад
@davidculp-mp5hi -- You can try explaining that to Sts. Peter and John, but they may not be able to hear you by then. [Read the early church fathers before commenting further.]
@catbird7007
@catbird7007 9 месяцев назад
@denisfillion3196 -- Many of the clergy (the liberal ones) lack the Faith and, therefore, the authority to instruct others. That's why many middle-aged and older lay people don't have a clue what they're doing -- they were never catechized properly! The newest priests and some of the younger generation of lay people are learning in depth what a gift their true Catholic Faith really is -- and they are the wonderful rebirth of Christ's Church in His Truth. ❤

Jesus uses parallelism in this discourse to equate believing with eating his flesh. Note the parallel between verse 40 and verse 54: (Jn. 6:40) “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” (Jn. 6:54) “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” According to this parallel, beholding and believing (v.40) are equated with eating and drinking Christ’s flesh (v.54). This is further paralleled by verse 35: (Jn. 6:35) I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (Jn. 6:54) “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” To “hunger” and “thirst” and parallel to the one who “eats” and “drinks.” But note what Jesus says satisfies our hunger: “He who comes to Me… he who believes in Me.” Jesus isn’t speaking about his literal flesh and blood any more than he is speaking about literal bread (Jn. 6:35) or literal water (Jn. 4:10-14). Indeed, Jesus uses the term sarx for his “body,” rather than the common term sōma (which was the common term used in the Lord’s Supper). Indeed, the “term ‘flesh’ is never used in the NT to refer to the Lord’s Supper.”[4] Hence, this seems “to caution against a sacramental or eucharistic understand of these verses.”[5] This is why Augustine of Hippo wrote regarding this passage: “Believe, and you have eaten.” The early church knew NOTHING of transubstantiation. Irenaeus of Lyons (AD 180) stated that the elements do not lose the nature of bread and wine (Against Heresies, 4.18.4-5; 5.2.2). Tertullian (AD 200) said Jesus’ statement was figurative (Against Marcion, 3.19). Clement of Alexandria (AD 200) called the bread and wine symbols of Jesus’ body (The Instructor, I.6). Origen (AD 250) held his typical allegorical and spiritual view when referring to the elements in the Last Supper. Eusebius of Caesarea (AD 340) called the elements the body and blood of Christ, but also referred to them as symbolic of spiritual realities (On the Theology of the Church, 3.2.12). Augustine (AD 350) believed that John 6:53 should be understood spiritually and symbolically-not literalistically (On Christian Doctrine 3.16.2). Gelasius I (5th century pope): “The sacrament which we receive of the body and blood of Christ is a divine thing. Wherefore also by means of it we are made partakers of the divine nature. Yet the substance or nature of the bread and wine does not cease to be… Thus, as the elements pass into this, that is, the divine substance by the Holy Ghost, and none the less remain in their own proper nature.”..

Kneeling and genuflecting just before receiving Holy Communion on the tongue and not in the hand is the proper way. To kneel before my Lord God Jesus Christ is paying respect to my Creator.

A few months ago, the priest would not come from behind the altar.I was waving to him from my pew.The priest saw me and pointed to the woman who was handing communion in the hands of the parishioners.I moved to be about two meters from the altar and kept beckoning the priest to come forward, because I will only receive Holy Communion while kneeling and on the tongue, and will not take it from the.woman. He persisted and did not come to me too give me my sacrament. That Sunday I did not receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. The hospital near me is named after a famous Saint. A few months ago all the crucifixes in the hospital were taken away. Go figure.

I’ve never said Amen before receiving Holy Communion because I receive on the tongue. I go to the traditional Latin Mass.

Fiona Morant: You should always say Amen before receiving Jesus latin Mass or not, whether in the hand or on the tongue.

Incorrect. You do not respond with the Eucharist in your mouth. You do not need to say "Amen".

Quite useful all religion and catholics teachings in internet. I like so much illustrative and very didactic ways to teach things. Good educators try everything and do this to call even more attention and explain in order nobody has doubts. Then people learn with these right and wrong examples, trying that nobody be able to forget the correct way to do the things. ☺️

In the General Instruction, paragraph 88 says "When the distribution of Communion is over, if appropriate, the Priest and faithful pray quietly for some time." It is also written elsewhere that the Communion song, the music accompanying the procession to receive, starts as the priest/presider receives and lasts until the last person has received. There is no mention of private prayer/thanksgiving during the procession, but after. Therefore, when one returns to one's pew, one should rejoin the processional song until its completion. Another way many Catholics receive "wrongly" is by being denied the Eucharist consecrated at the Mass they're attending. To routinely retrieve hosts from the Tabernacle diminishes the sacrifice of the Mass.
