Thanks Kim! I did exactly as you recommended. My ever bearing strawberries produced a lot of runners which I was able to save and this year, I gained nine new plants. Hope they produce a decent amount of berries to enjoy this summer. Thanks!

Glad it was helpful, Carolann! If you want your plants to produce strawberries this year, cut off the runners so all the energy goes into those delicious berries! After the berries are done producing for the season, allow the runners to grow and root them for free plants. Enjoy!

Hi Kim! Do you use the same plant cocktail on your berries as you do with your tomatoes? I love that good dirt plant food and am wondering if I can just use the same mix across the board with all plants. I don’t see why not but wanted to ask what you do in your garden ☺️

I just bought some strawberries today so you will be helping me with that too. I'm so excited. This video has excellent information and more ideas for me to get my strawberries started. What I have done for now I have transplanted my strawberries from a 2 gallon pot that I bought it in to a 5-gallon bucket. I plan to increase this strawberry plant but I must do some more learning. So I will have this video on repeat God Willing.

My strawberry plants all pooped out this summer. My bareroot strawberries did not grow. I did get 2 strawberries out of the Baker Creek plantstarts but they too had issues with our Texas summer this year. I will continue to feed and water the roots in case they decide to regrow this fall. I've never been very successful at growing strawberries but the 2 that did ripen only encourage me to keep trying.

I am also in Texas. The first year you plant them you need to take off the blooms to help them establish their root systems. A little root stimulator a month after planting also helps. You will have strawberries every year after... it is so difficult to do that I know!!! However your patience will be rewarded!!

I would try Slow-Release Fertilizer as it provides a steady supply of nutrients over time. It should say that right on the packaging at your local nursery center or box store nursery center.And/or Organic fertilizers they improve soil structure and promote microbial activity. Hope this helps, Stephen. Keep me posted! CaliKim

Living in MN when it’s really cold in the winter, how do I care for strawberries if I grow them in pots or hanging baskets ? Do I have to take them inside ?
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 2 месяца назад
Definitely doable with some care. Choose Cold-Hardy Varieties - you research this. Also, In late fall or early winter, after the plants have gone dormant, you can prune them back to remove any dead or damaged foliage. Provide protection BEFORE the winter sets in. Move them to a more sheltered location, such as against a south-facing wall or near the house, where they can benefit from the warmth radiating from the building. Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base of the plants to insulate the roots and protect them from extreme cold. Make sure to water your strawberry plants adequately throughout the fall, but reduce watering as winter approaches. Bringing them indoors for the winter. A garage, shed, or unheated porch can serve as a suitable overwintering location. Make sure the plants still receive some light: a window or supplemental grow lights. Monitor for Pests and Diseases! Please thumbs up the video and subscribe if you have not already. Thank you for watching and commenting. CaliKim

Does anyone know what the red really small crawling bugs are that I just got this year are?? You can see them with your naked eye but they are extremely small. Ive never got them before but i did this year. They are definitely red and I want to say they are some sort of a spider but i don't know. I'm thinking maybe ladybugs would take care of them I think I will buy some from buckerfeilds but figure I'd ask here.
@Fred.pSonic
@Fred.pSonic Год назад
Sounds like what I had on my squash last year although these spun webs, moved fast and looked more like brownish-red dust. If so you might have red spider mites. A heavy dose of neem oil mixed with castile soap spray might work. Try 4 tbsp of each per gallon of water, good luck Jimmy.

Im confused about this fertilizing strawberries. I’ve watched a few videos on strawberries and you are the only one that says to fertilize every 2 weeks and to use high nitrogen. Others say todo it only once in the spring and once in the fall after harvest is complete. Nitrogen will give mostly green growth and few berries because they need higher P & K. 🤷‍♀️
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 2 месяца назад
Hi Michele - sorry for the confusion. To clarify, I feed my container/hanging basket berries every 2 weeks as I mentioned in the video, but when they're flowering and fruiting, I"ll only feed them worm tea. At the beginning of the season and after they are done producing, or after a heavy pruning, they"ll get N along with the worm tea to help them grow more leaves. Hope this helps!
