Commander replaces Frederick. It's easy to actually transfer either commanders or Frederick's settings to another character though. For the icons and messages I'm not so sure. You'd jave to rename probably like 80 ish files for that. Castles and AIC alone to have the pig build exactly like the commander is easily doable though.
You can kind of. Like in my games I always play with Crusader extreme but it seems like the normal Crusader because I copied the maps from the normal Crusader to Crusader Extreme. Also with the unofficial crusader patch I removed the magic bar in extreme so it just seems like the normal crusader, just with way higher npc limit
