Thanks to Bob, I turned a Sienna into a happy home and found out I don't need all that junk I was piling up for years. No bigger money pit than a house you fill up with junk you don't need. House needed a new roof and central Ac done. 15+k would be all my blood earned lifesavings gone. Thanks to all brave nomads and Bob that gave me courage and inspired me to be free at last.
I hear you. I have a house that is WAY too big filled with junk I’ll never use. I’m working on getting rid of stuff. I’d like to also sell the house but my husband isn’t ready to let it go.
I kept all the stuff because "it’s worth a lot of money" for far too long. Got rid of the husband awhile ago(he held a gun to my head, SWAT was involved& his alcohol)Life gets better. Take Care!!
"No more boring rat race". The truth is the rat race is more than boring. It's mindless and stressful. I'm eleven months into this lifestyle. My biggest stress is when I'm on the road. Out in nature is very mind healing.
Isaac, you are so genuine and finding freedom! I’m living in a Honda Civic. It’s been 9 months and it’s super small. I’m hoping I can get a van!! Resilience!!!
Although I live in a traditional duplex (67 in July) retired last month after my workplace closed, living on my pension and social security, Bob I have followed you for a few years and although I probably won’t ever be a nomad it’s wonderful to know that if my situation changed I would have options, May God bless you abundantly ❤️
For me, the way Bob pauses between the words "next" and "video" gets me every time. I don't know what it is... but I find myself eagerly waiting for it every time!
I really appreciate these videos of people transitioning into van or RV life for the first time. They're superb guides of what to do and what to expect, without involving elaborate solutions.
Hi Izaak, I just purchased 2 books on Kindle The American Outback…No Signal and What Peace Means to Us .. Thank you for making them available on Kindle ..
@@izaakdaviddiggsYou’re very welcome… I briefly read about of your other books, are you a song writer/poet… do you play an instrument… sure once I read the 2books I purchased these questions may be answered.. All the best
I live in the Midwest of the US. Otherwise known as tornado Alley. I'd prefer nice gentle rainfall to having to run for cover every time we get severe storms, which is quite often.
Put on air shocks and use tires that have the highest rim to road ratio. You should increase your 4 inch clearance to 6 or 7. I had a 1977 Ford F-250 with a full bed overhead camper. 460 engine with aftermarket supercharger and got 25 MPG at 60 MPH. Also had 25 and 34 foot trailers and mileage really went to hell with the 34. Maybe 11 or 12. but I have never been happy with stock fuel systems. Worth your time to inflate your tires with Nitrogen. Costs about $3 per tire. No rot and maintains pressure better. I gave up full time RV'ing in 2013, now renting a 7 bedroom/5 bath house with 4 car garage on 23 acres for $153 a month in Costa Rica. Haven't used a drop of gas or propane. Even at age 76 I walk and bike up hills as much as 27% I travel Internationally 6 months a year and as not in the US enjoy a $108,600 yearly US Income Tax Exemption. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qr_2nx7B-CA.html
It’s very liberating and empowering, once you know that you can live in a vehicle. I lived in my car, occasionally, decades ago when I was in college. Extremely minimalistic lifestyle. Now, fast forward 42 years and I’ve done extremely well from a financial, perspective, partly because I’ve always been frugal. Married with 3 grown children. We live extremely comfortably and have a lot of luxuries but it’s funny, in my mind, I’m still “poor” and go through life with that approach. My children are always asking me, “why do I act like we are poor”? I tell them that it’s in my blood and the most liberating thing is that I know how to survive off of almost nothing and am fine with it. I consider it a survival skill and gift.
I love that shelf in the back. I've been trying to figure out the best way to add desk space. That's given me a good idea to add a shelf like that to move stuff back on one side and add room for an adjustable swivel table.
Bob you just find amazing people with such diverse builds. It’s so interesting to see who and what is next. Isaac is a gem and I wish him well. Much love and many blessings
Creative, very cool. This gentleman is showing what "can be", especially for those of us who think we need more than we actually do. That Izaak has written a book about his experience on the road (so far) is really impressive! Safe travels sir & much thanks for sharing, Pam
Very nice and efficient build. I like that he seems to have used what he had available, such as hinges to span the gaps when attaching the shelves in the back. Very creative.
Really enjoy the minivan videos. Living simply, having enough, understanding the essence of what's important and needed, enjoying life as it is. It takes resourcefulness to travel lightly and more discreetly. Converting my own used minivan, painting the subfloor and building a bed frame. Living in it is my plan at some point but I will get to use it while still in a home to try it out without an enormous expenditure.
Bob, I have made much progress with my finances since 2015 after my Dad passedl in 2014. I have paid off my major debts, and am saving up to trade in my 2010 Ford Escape SUV and get a used Ford Transit cargo van and Outfit it for camping, travel, and explore the Eastern gold fields, beaches and gem mines in North and South Carolina, North Georgia and Blue Ridge Parkway. My cousins also live in North Carolina, so I can spend time with them. I am a Lifetime member of the GPAA\LDMA - Gold Prospectors of Americaand sister group to the Lost Dutchman’s Mining Association and will stay at several of our campgrounds in my area. Life is too short for rocking chairs - get out and play in the creeks and pan for gold!
Great JOB Isaac as I truly enjoy seeing folks as yourself taking the step to cut the ties from living in a vehicle. I am in the same process of transitioning into vanlife as I have been renting apartments since I was 18 and I am now 51. I am never home because I spend all of my time paying rent to basically house my clothing and have a place to sleep and shower.
Awesome build, Isaac! Congratulations on your two books. Thanks for showing your fridge and interior organization system. Those were very helpful for me. Happy trails. 💖
You can get DOT refillable propane cartridges with top off valves to prevent over filling just like a big tank. KEGs from Mr. Buddy and also from Flame King. I refill from home with a 20 gal tank.
Debt truly is a prison. I have an emergency fund but an unexpected medical bill has to be paid so I'm staying stationary during Spring to pay that off in 90 days. I've been debt free for awhile and i hate that this came up! July 5th is my goal to have it paid a nd get back on the road!
I also got a odesy now me and my gf live in ... im trying to change out the alternator right now i got minum tools so its going to be fun lol best wishes to everybody from vermont
Ive been living in my cousins backyard in a wooden shed for a year. Already had electricty , so i added a propane heater and a portable ac and ive been just saving up. My uncle gave me his old camper so im thinking after the shed buy a plot of land and live in the camper for a few years and then build a cabin on the land .
The less you need the freer you become! The best things in life aren’t things … The only hard thing for me a part with was books .. now I download to my Kindle and also get audiobooks and regular books electronically via the local libraries I connect with … try very hard to now longer buy books period.. my first love 💗 is reading!! I’ve also learned over time to eat for energy, I eat simpler which is soo much more healthier…
Great video ! I was wondering why you don't charge phones and laptops from the vehicle and save the power that is in the Jackery for some lights and the fridge ?
Let’s all clean out headlights. The turtle wax , headlight restoration kit , is an excellent choice. Usually the first step with the polishing compound, does the trick
I would like to see some episodes where people talk about how they spend their days. I know some people take walks, read books etc but it seems that 16 hours day a day would be hard to fill. If you didn't have a youtube channel that needed working on everyday, what are some of the things you would do?
Help! Me too! I’m in debt. I’m paying rent late every month. I have to run my car almost non-stop doing deliveries for DoorDash just to squeak by. I keep buying food and gas on credit cards to pay this bloated rent. 😢 I only have a Prius V. I’m scared to become a nomad but it’s calling. 🙏🏼 God go with me.
I had just rented a new Toyota 4 runner in florida that thing was gigantic was living Goodwin rest stops walmarts. I could live in the dessert like that in a 4x4 honda pilot my 2009 one was big, my current cherokee not so big bit needed tow vehicle. I guess what I'm saying is if living on west coast I recommend living in suv like a Honda pilot or even a Nissan armada
Another great video, Bob. I'm as I'm watching this on RU-vid, I do not follow Instagram or anything other than Facebook and RU-vid. If your being shown on here, you should make it happen here on RU-vid!!!!
I bought a couple of crosswise bars that clamp on the roof rails that came with the van and then strap it on for extra safety. You'll need a tire cover, too, to keep the sun from destroying your spare
@@izaakdaviddiggsI have cross bars that’s already on my van. So are you saying that you had to buy crossbars or you bought 2 extra crossbars and some clamps?
Hi, Bob I want to know what the cheapest power station I can get , I have a set power refrigerator, and I’m getting ready to go on a long road trip. I will be moving out of my apartment in about 3 months, I don’t want to pay 1700. anymore. I have a Jackery 300, but I know I need a larger one. I hope you see this, I am a Veteran, need to become stress free.
If money was no object. And you chose this type of a lifestyle how would you set yourself up ? Particularly your rig. I’m probably gonna get ten different answers from ten different people. But. Anyway. How ?
I'd find a 46-47 Ford truck and have a camper built on the back (or, if I found a bus, have the inside built out). I'd put a 7.3 diesel and five speed in, modernize the brakes, suspension, and steering and make a couple other changes for safety, and set it up so it could run on cooking oil
