40 122 struggles out of Bradford Interchange on the 19th April 1986 with the White Rose railtour. The loco (unsuprisingly!) suffered a main generator flashover at Mostyn 2 hours later.
it is 19th April 1986, she was labouring out of Bradford due to a main genny fault, I took over it at Man Vic and it flashed over and failed at Mostyn Dock. she was flying the white rose headboard
Living in S Wales at that time I never saw much of the 40s, but that start reminded me of 2x37s passing Porthkerry on a damp evening with coal for Aberthaw Power Station in the 70s. Thanks very much.
I saw this one in the days before I had a video camera The best I could do was place my tape recorder on the boards in front of the signal box The sound was awsome as she passed Thanks for posting Brings back happy memories
More great clips, I saw that railtoure come through the valley at Mytholmroyd and it was a relentless thrash, I had never seen a 40 come past that quick before.
Paulsimon8. It's changed in the last few years. It's 15mph out of station to first bridge, then 25mph up to just past the box then 55 in Halifax direction, to Leeds its 25 to Usher Street (round st Dunstans curve and through the cutting) then 60 up to and through Wakey road tunnel then 30 at the corner where Hammerton st depot was then 60 as was.
The speed round there is 15mph in each direction. On the down line, the 15mph starts at the exit of Wakefield Road Tunnel which is 60mph. Then going back out towards Halifax on the Up line, the 15mph ends near as damn outside Mill Lane signal box and the linespeed increases to 55mph.
Surely 40145 will visit before too long, it's all over the place at the moment. They're building on St Dunstans at the moment (where this clip was filmed) so the view of both lines out of Bradford will soon become a vision of the past.
what a baron forlorn shit hole Bradford looks here?!! there's towns in Siberia that look less depressing than this place!! but worst still, I've heard it's changed very little lol
