Enjoy this easy 40 minute virtual bike ride down the famous Route of the Hiawatha Trail. This scenic 15-mile downhill ride goes through ten tunnels and seven high trestles.
***For a faster pace, watch our UPHILL ride on the Hiwatha: • 45 Minute Virtual Bike...
Bike route: This virtual bike ride starts at the East Portal and makes a 2% grade descent to Pearson, Idaho. The route begins at a 1.6 mile tunnel. We edited out most of the first tunnel and some areas on the trail where we are riding into the sun. This ride does give you a good feel for what it’s like to ride the Hiawatha. For more information on this ride go to RideTheHiawatha.com.
Enjoy the evergreen scenery of the western United States as you complete your workout.
This virtual bike ride is also perfect if you are stuck inside and just want to be an armchair traveler. And it's a great video to have playing in the background as a screensaver.
Feel free to mute and use your own music.

This is a very easy 15 mile ride because it's mostly downhill averaging 2% grade. We have e-bikes so we went both directions but if you only want to take the trail down they provide a shuttle to take you back up to the top.

I live about 2 hours away. I rode it 4 times during the summer of 2018, twice in one day - once in the morning and then their "full moon ride" at night. The only annoyance is that the tunnel is wet / muddy. The later in the summer you go, the less muddy it is.
@AmazingBikeRides
@AmazingBikeRides 4 года назад
Even with a full moon I can only imagine how dark that tunnel must have been at night, and yes "Wet" and "Muddy" are good words to describe it.

Hi D W, For this ride the bike you see is a Juiced Cross Current X and the camera bike is a Luna X1 Enduro. But thanks for the suggestion and we will include the info on future videos.

We have rode this 3 times- it’s an amazing ride. Be sure you have head lamps-it gets pretty dark inside the tunnels.

That’s exactly what I needed! I had no light, followed the lead rider too closely and got covered in mud. Happy to hear that you know this ride!

Wow...I miss North Idaho. Thanks for letting me ride along...though it would be nice if the camera were in front and followed the rider's eyeline. The views are spectacular but we didn't get to see any of them. (I suspect the camera carrier is female...) This is the first time I've used one of your videos while riding my stationary bike.

I see you are riding ebikes and have a couple of questions if I may ….. My wife and I plan to ride the Hiawatha Trail in early September and we have been told we needed to disable our throttles and the USFS will check before being allowed on the trail. Did anyone check your ebikes to ensure the throttle was disabled? Did you ride the trail both ways or just one way? If just one way what was your experience shuttling your ebike back up the trail? If you rode both ways, is the grade going up significant enough I have to worry about our batteries going dead? Thank you in advance for your answers.
@AmazingBikeRides
@AmazingBikeRides 2 года назад
Hi Eric, we rode both directions and no one checked our bikes - both have throttles. Battery usage should not be a problem because one direction is a gradual downhill so you won't be using much assist and I don't remember the uphill as much of a challenge. The one thing I can't stress enough is that you need to have good lighting, front and back, because there is a 1.25 mile tunnel at the beginning (if you start at the top) that is as dark as it gets - I literally couldn't see my front wheel with my light off (yes, I turned it off to check). It's a beautiful ride that you will remember forever.
@pizzasubs
@pizzasubs 3 года назад
When you reached the 2nd tunnel, on the stop sign there it said for bikers to actually Sound their Horns, dont what the odds are of of having bikers having actual horns on their Bikes, but understand that this is because of how dark it actually is in the tunnel, right?
@AmazingBikeRides
@AmazingBikeRides 3 года назад
Hi Andrew, I honestly don't recall that sign, which I attribute to still being in shock from that first tunnel 😳 Overall we loved the ride but I was totally not prepared for that 1st tunnel! Thanks for watching and commenting.
