Touching a bit on financial aid. I give encouragement in this video to those contemplating going back to school. Just do it, if indeed, it is your desire.
I am over 40 and just starting nursing school. My husband attempted suicide and then wanted a divorce. The children and I were left pretty much to fend for ourselves other than the little bit of child support he pays. I decided I needed to go back to school and get my nursing degree. Your story is very inspirational. Thank you for sharing.
I just want to say how much I commend you lady! I am on a pell grant and 2 loans for each year of college. I am a freshman, and I am 40+, and just wanted you to know that you are a real inspiration for ladies like me. My children are grown, and I have to put as much study time in as you do. I understand exactly where you are coming from, this is the greatest thing I've ever done, and the toughest! Many wishes and blessing to you! Keep on keeping on! :) Dixie
Cindy Gilliam Thank you so much! I agree with you, the greatest and the toughest! I'm sure you will not regret your decision to go back to school if you are fulfilling a desire in your heart. I wish you the best. What are you studying?
My major is Business Administration minoring in Accounting. I am planning to go into the field of International or small business. I am still undecided there. When I first started, I was afraid I would not be able to manage, due to cancer treatments. The treatments destroyed a lot of mind, the chemo that is. But now, I am half way thru my freshman year, and so far, I am a 4.0. This is an amazing accomplishment for me. Every time I get down and feel like I am not going to make through a class, I find myself wondering off to your RU-vid site...You are so inspiring. Whether you realize it or not, you help a lot of ladies, and I am a big fan! :)
Thank you so much for posting. I know that there are many of us out there who are over 40 and attending. Most days I feel quite alone and finding your channel makes it less lonely!
I'm 38, started my degree when I was in my 20's...had a family so my babies came first. They are "bigger" now and so am I...divorced single mother working towards a life long goal MY Degree!! "No one can ever take away your education, you earned it, it's yours" (NWT Prof.)
Thank you so much for the inspiration. I would like to go back to school to study art and teach adults. I am 43 and have several disabilities. I am not sure how I will do it all the way around, but I am meeting with a counselor soon and will take it one step at a time.
creativecompanion Hi! Thank you for visiting my channel! One step at a time is the way to travel, I’m finding 😊. What kind of art are you considering studying? I’m wishing you all the best 😊
Thank you for doing these videos. I am 38, married, with two children. I have been feeling discouraged about going back to school due to my age and responsibilities, but you are very inspiring!
Hello my sista. I am so glad to find this vid. I have been trying to find videos on other women who are going back to school after age forty. I am embarking on this challenge now in 2013 and I must say it is a scary experience but I feel that unless I go back and finish my degree I won't be fully happy with myself. So again I say thank you for your vids and your honesty. Many well wishes sent your way as you complete your goals.
I'm not sure how I missed this.... But I am interested in knowing if you completed your goal!!! Thank you for the well wishes. I am very happy with my decision to go back to school. I now have a rewarding career as a psychotherapist. I wish you the best!
Julius Cheeseboro hi Julius, I'm 48 and I'm starting pta school. physical therapy assistant degree. if you are determined to accomplish it, even though it's hard, you should go for it. years will go by anyway, this way you have credits go by as well.
This video was published Dec 6, 2012. Today is August 23, 2017. Did you finish college and have a rewarding career? I am forty-three years old and I am planning on going back to college Jan 2018
Hi! Yes, I did complete a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work. It was the best educational decision I could have made for myself. I have other videos you could watch that you may find encouraging. Good luck to you!
Awesome, thank you for sharing these videos. You are truly an inspiration. I already got started with some self-study. I am looking into getting a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems (Full-Stack Web Developer)
Hi Yaaspassions and thank you for subscribing!! Going back to school has been a challenge, but I have really enjoyed it (most times). I wish you the best as you embark upon this journey. "No Excuses, No Regrets" me :)
Also, I want to add that I was carrying an "A & B" average in all my classes, but this one class is definitely a struggle... and it's not the work, it's my mind-set, and I don't know how to come out of it. (Tired and wanting to give up)
To Ms melody23- Thank you for your encouragement, I think I may need to enroll in a classroom setting, online classes are not supportive enough for my attention span, thanks again.
Hello I’m 40 and planning to start IT school next year probably as a part time student . I’m afraid things might get difficult because of my age and the time it will take me to finish the program.
Hi! I understand. I was terribly afraid at first. I decide to take one step at a time. e.g. 1. gather information 2. speak with advisors .....and so on. Before I knew it, I as at day one of classes. I think you will be surprised at how many "mature" people are going back to school. I'm sure you'll be fine. I wish you the very best! Keep us posted.
Thank you Marsha for your video, I am over 50 and I'm pursuing my Bachelors degree in Business Administration, my time management skills are lacking and I am an Online student... I'm at the point of being discouraged. I know I have the brain power to get through the course but my will power is slowly dwindling away. You have been very encouraging through your testimony, however, I don't know about me... I want the degree, but I'm so tired and I feel if I withdraw for a breather, I might not start up again. Any advice on that.
Brenda , l know your comment was directed towards Marsha but don't give up. Its a hard journey but its worth it...you're worth it. I found motivational Les Brown to be very encouraging. Stay strong.
Brenda, I apologize for my absence. I have had a lot of personal struggles since completing school. There is a video that explains. I'm interested in knowing how you did in school. Did you continue with online? I know online can be challenging for many. I wish you the best.
I need some support too , I'm 44 years. But I still eager to learn. I want to be a teacher since I was 7. Money is always the hindrance. Now my father has died , the responsibility is on me. I think I would never achieve my dream.
Hey you have my support! Who do you have in your life that will encourage you...kids, family, friends, YOU? Sometimes all we have is ourselves, and we find that that is all we need to get us to the next phase of our lives. When I decided to look into going to college, I was so scared and apprehensive. Money was a concern for me too. I almost cancelled my appointment. Then I told myself that it is only an appointment to learn more about the program, that's all. Just one step. ....the rest is history. I wish you all the best. Thank you for reaching out! :)
Omg I am so happy I found this video, I 43 years old in 2020 , do you guys think it would be a good idea to go back to school for RN? I don’t have GED and I am single parent of 12 years girl, I know I will have to put in a lot of work, but I feel like I am too old to do this, any opinion or advice will really help me
Connie Debrah. Thank you for finding me here! I think if it is your heart’s desire to go back to school, you should do that! You’re never to old and the time it will take for you to complete your degrees is going to pass anyway. Why not use that time to fulfill one of your goals? Research and arm yourself with knowledge so that you are able to chose the best route for you. You can do this!
I apologize for this late response. I'm just now learning how to access all of my comments. I finished both the BA of Psychology and Master of Social Work in Advanced Clinical Practice. Things are great...now. I went through some personal challenges not long after graduating, but life has a way of working out. I am a Social Worker Psychotherapist and I love what I do. Thank you so much for reaching out! :)
