Service looks good! Just curious why you wouldn't use a polaris connector instead of the split bolts?

Nice video, watched your other video prior to this one when you did it Hot, I believe our poco would have to de energize underground service conductors or just tape em since now we’re in the 2020 cycle and now required an emergency disconnect.

Have you ever used Burndy barrel crimps with a crimper and heat shrinks or a insulated Polaris taps Isco and T&B make them, most supply house sell them little caps on them and they sell thin in one side out the other side

Always hated seeing those 400 amp boxes when we were pulling up on a house fire. Never had a main disconnect we could get at without opening the boxes; that is changing now, but it was always fun picking who was going to secure the utilities when I was working... 😅 I am doing my home panel in the house we moved in to 3 years ago, from the early 70's on Wednesday. Putting up a new panel and getting the ground bonding fixed, it is a mess right now. The current box is a Bryant 12 slot filled like a birds nest, and have 5 breakers double tapped. Still don't understand how those kinds of boxes make it past the home inspector's all the time... Putting in a SquareD 20 slot 40 Circuit so I can sleep at night. 😁

Check out the Ilsco PBT line. They're priced way more competitively than Polaris ITG. We only use split bolts for uninsulated splices anymore.

Funny how different utilities are. Here in CT eversource lets licensed electricians disconnect services. Now if you have a home owner permit they require an inspection sign off before they will reconnect. But that is not the case for electricians as per their manual.

Wondering WHY you didn't use Polaris Connectors instead of using Split Bolt Connectors for splicing or tapping those Service Line Conductors for the extra length rerquired to reconnect to the Line side lugs of the New Meter Can ???
@jessesmith1681
@jessesmith1681 6 месяцев назад
We aren’t allowed to use split bolts in most areas around here on services . I don’t personally like them myself and won’t use anyways . Here we aren’t allowed to disconnect or reconnect utility side of power whether overhead or underground . Power company must do and will not reconnect without inspector signing off and emailing approval . Sometimes though it takes a day or two for reconnect depending on what time they receive approval and how busy their crews are.
@electricianron_New_Jersey

So you leave homeowners without power? That’s great service.
@jessesmith1681
@jessesmith1681 6 месяцев назад
@@electricianron_New_Jersey it’s not the contractors choice unfortunately . We let the homeowner know that it is a possibility that power won’t be back on for a day or so so they can make arrangements. I also have a portable generator that I use sometimes if they don’t have anywhere to go . The utility company tries to get power on as quick as possible but it’s out of the contractors hands once we complete the job . We can be fined if we tamper even with the meter although I have pulled a few in an emergency and they haven’t said anything

How big of a hassle (and cost) would it have been for JCPL to run new conductors so you wouldn't have to add extensions? The lugs you used for the extensions took up a lot of space.

Happy Easter! 400 amps! What do they have to even come close to that? My house has 100 amp service and we don’t even come close to needing more and that is while also powering an RV. That being said all our big appliances use natural gas for their heating elements and we drive ICE vehicles.

In our jurisdiction the utility will not let us extend the line side conductors, no taps or extensions allowed. We also can’t cross their conductors with the load side conductors.
