I just made your winder for my Kundo. I mounted the hook a little too close to the spring on the first try, so it wasn't holding out enough of the "tail" of the spring to work with on reinsertion, but after adjusting that, the thing was great! I also used 3/4" wood blocks for the barrel clamp thinking it might prevent scratching the brass a bit better . Also I used 1/2" copper tubing for the crank shaft and crimped the end around the hex body #6 tip from my spring let down set. It's a tight enough fit and allows me to just plug in any size tip that's needed in the future. (I know - us RU-vidrs sometimes just can't leave well enough alone.) Many thanks Yan!

Some pro clock builders still use oil while others switched to grease long ago stating it remains on parts much longer than oil & dont ruin their clock cabinets dripping off. Grease is used on steering parts, oil is not because grease stays put. Some people claim WD40 is the best oil here, fact is WD is a terrible lube! True! It's a good parts cleaner & good moisture fighter as well. That's what WD was really developed to do for US military. Works on rusty/seized bolts/nuts too but its simply no good as a friction fighter, a lube shouldn't evaporate which WD40 so quickly does. Why not use a non petroleum full syn dielectric grease since it clearly stays on much longer than oil. Many new full syn automotive brake lubes for instance are the best lubes ever made at resisting water, heat, drop & friction fighting. Being they dont harm aluminum/brass, rubber nor plastic parts my bet is they wont harm any treated metals either but idk that without test results? Most oils were petro based back in the day, Id say most effected everything back then. Being most lubes made today weren't around 25yrs ago much less 125yrs ago. I have to wonder if they had just part of our lube choices back then would they have ditched oil for grease instead? As I said, seeing both oil & grease getting used inside these clock rebuilds, it just makes me question which one really is best? Many just go by the books, I get it. But do they still run $2 spark plugs in older cars & change them every 25k when 100k mile plugs that also improve mpgs are available? I don't! I've seen some very nice clock cabinets in bad shape due to oiling, most I'll blame on over oiling by owners but still yet, that damage is done -$$$. Maybe, just maybe a good grease might of prevented all of it?
