The City of Edmonton began work on the 41 Ave SW/QE II Hwy interchange in summer 2013. This is a jointly-funded project between the City, Alberta Transportation, and the Federal Government as part of the the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI). As of August 2014, the main bridge girders have been completed and work on the bridge deck is ongoing. On July 21, traffic switched to the new QE II Hwy southbound alignment.
