This is right up there with the #41 from Live in Chicago 12.19.98 at the United Center in terms of my favorite versions of the song ever. Victor Wooten is such a magician. He makes #41 my favorite DMB song when he plays on it. Glad I stumbled on this.
Every show I go to there's this little sliver of hope that Victor Wooten will guest on #41. This time I got what I wanted. I went absolutely wild, and the guy behind me said, "I think you're the only person in this section who knows who that guy is."
“A tribute to the Flecktones!”…one of the best parts of this song is that it’s actually a bit of a tribute and “playoff” to Victor’s brother Future Man…if you know Bela Fleck and Flecktones (you should check them out), Future Man plays the Drumitar and Carter (seems to me) to be emulating the parts of the Flecktone songs referenced between Victor Wooten and Jeff Coffin (both Flecktones)…it’s essentially Carter emulating the Drumitar and it is absolutely spectacular musicianship on so many levels! Beautiful and Amazing!!! Thank you DMB!!! I love the thought that Bela and Future Man are watching this and laughing at this with joy…I do wonder if this is why Carter has that sly smile between him and Victor.
Wooten will be m'y only one everytime i see him playing it inspiring Me too much And i swear i will Work very had to jam with him one day don't Care if he become old cheers from west Africa country named Togo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏🎧🎧
Funny because in most other contexts, Stefan is a killer bass player and could outplay a lot of bass players in terms of his groove and feel, but here he just looks like a beginner!
@@thatmatt41 I agree. Stefan got my attention with the bass line on "What Would You Say," and has been on my list of favorite bass players ever since. Carter and Stefan are my favorite rhythm section currently performing. BUT, Victor is just in another stratosphere, with his abilities.
I come back to this video a dozen times a year. This performance should have a hundred million views. Incredible musicianship and feeling by one of the best bands on the planet Earth jamming with arguably the greatest bass player on Earth. Victor Wooten has it all - chops with feeling. Couple that soloing with DMB and you've got musical nirvana. Mind-blowing.
My fave part starts at about the 10:30 mark, when Dave figures Vic's through with his solo and starts singing again - but Vic starts goading Carter into a bass vs. drums battle (and you can see Carter turn to Vic with a big smile when he starts it,) - and Dave just kinda throws up his hands like "OK guys, have at it."
I love VC's raw kind of organic quality. In the beginning he adds some accents and stops making a sound when he will not be adding anything. The music is already full and complete. When he has thoportunity to sinc with the sax and violin and can enrich the sound better... heralds into the groove and can make the music better with whatatarys flowing through him. Violins and sax see it happen and fade right out.. Dave enriches sound wirh his voice enquiring VW and when VC since qith drummer it looks like Dave turns to sax player jesturing thata shits about to get real excitedly after cutting his vocals short. Top Pros' dealing with a raw emotion ensured prodigy. Thing of.frigging beauty.
I sat here for 18 minutes with a big grin on my face! That was so cool too see: thanks CCPot! There is so much history coming together on this video; it's been what, like since 1998 when Victor used to guest with DMB. There's something about Victor Wooten, the way he can improv on that bass, that inspires me whenever I hear him play. Victor Wooten IS Music!
Oh you lucky ones... I went on Saturday, 6/15. An amazing night... but oh this song is soooo epic IMO; and I've heard it live many times...I will never get tired of it. Each live concert is just so different and I look forward to the next tour, and the next, and the... You know... Peace and love, DMB Nation
a big shout out to the lighting engineer for also playing along with the band ...especially starting around the 11:15 mark. The lights really helped highlight these solos.
#41 is my favorite song of all time. With that being said, Victor Wooten takes this song to a level that can't be described. I wish I could see him with DMB just 1 time live.
Victor makes the world revolve. I must be a sad old man, but tears come when he plays. Tears of Joy that music is still alive. I miss the old progressive bands. Especially Rush, King Crimson, Bela Fleck, Hot Tuna and I guess I have to say Pink Floyd. So many more. Bless those days!!!
This was the last concert I went to with my friend before he passed away from bone cancer... great performance and great time seeing the band at their best.
I've never heard Vic described that way, but I totally agree. The guy is a once in ten lifetimes talent. He inspired me to learn the language of music.
I call him that because I have been playing guitar my whole life. I studied the suites from Bach and within music composition and uniqueness of sound victor wooten is really just as innovative as Bach to me. ALthough I play guitar I learned a lot from victor wooten his perspective on music and he inspires me a lot in my play.
It's called phrasing a song within a song, as long as you keep the pocket for the main theme, you can depart into another song within the framework of the original, even change the time signature, if you keep the pocket and keep key on the main theme enough to let every one else know you are in synch....
Henderson Hardric check it out. its titled #41 live at Ottawa on 4/20/2002. its honestly the most incredible live performance of anything I've ever heard or seen
Amazing collection of musicians having the time of their lives. Love DMB, they have a wonderful gift and connect so well with their audiences, and we're fortunate enough to get to be here to listen to them.
I love how you left the "victor wooten, clap clap, clap clap clap" at the beginning. Things like that are what makes the fan base videos far better than the professional done videos.
As I always say -- thx so much for all the contributing audio, video & the work to pull these beautiful pieces to us all. I totally feel the vibe & feel I was there for this 18+ mins. Great job. Im so glad this special version was captured so well.
First time I ever saw Victor and Bela play with DMB was 5-20-1998 in Irvine.. this was one of the songs they jammed to way back then. It's only gotten sweeter and sweeter
9:01 the moment Wooten hits that hammer on Dave just stops.. and when the tapping lick happens hes like a kid in a candy store. lovely music... the old #41 wooten solo is still the best. but this is amazing also. and sojourn of arjuna mixed in is just glorious
Yes Dave give a shout out to Winston Salem NC! Ziggy's And Jay Stewart! God bless !! Old School never forget !!! Ziggy's 1990 to Wake Forest with the greatest TIM Reynold's!!!!!! Pfafftown NC!! God Bless you and the band! All I listened to Overseas in the War!! Y'all saved my life !! Ziggy's
First and foremost we all know VW is an absolute beast and he always brings it. This version is nice but Chicago ‘98 is sublime. This entire band is ridiculous though. Musicianship on another level. Boyd and Carter… take a backseat to no one. Leroi is missed but not forgotten. DMB jamming!
God bless this is one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed...must have been what it was like to see Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie back in the day
I’d never watched this clip before. I’ll admit I felt a pang of nostalgia when I saw Boyd playing with the rest of the gang. :( And good lord, Wooten is a bass-wielding funk god.
