Hey folks,
Time for another "What's in the Box" series. Today we will tear down and pattern a Remington Express Long Range 3" shell loaded with 11/16oz of #5 lead shot. Pattern the shell as usual and get some final thoughts. As you can see I'm not too familiar with this round so any feedback as to why you folks use this would be great. Thanks for watching!!!!

Once again we see that the full choke is definitely the way to go for the 410 Great video as usual !!!!

What gunpowder is in the cartridge, and in what dose?

Growing up, I shot #4s at everything. I’d rather kill something with 2 or 3 #4 pellets than 8 or 10 #8 shot. Much better for the table. That’s what I was taught and most of the adults I hunted around did the same. Fast forward 30 or so years, I play around with different flavors of shot. I’d still be looking at the largest shot that I could get a good pattern out of. Maybe #6 for example. Looking at the price on that box that was probably 1980 something prices. This could mean there were still plenty of people with the way of thinking that I was raised with. Anyway it’s sliced, as a kid, I found a way to kill game with shells like that. And, so did many others. I was far from an expert. Had I not shot one for several years at the start of my hunting career, I’d be inclined to agree that it’s an experts shotgun. I too have a Tristar pump and load for it. I think back to those days and wonder what it would have been like to have so many shot and load types!! Keep the vids rolling! 🐿️ 🐇🦆🐦‍⬛

.410 is a short range gun in my opinion, mine gets occasionally used with 7 shot for squirrels out to 25 yds maybe 30yds max. 4-5 shot is good for turkey out to 15-20 yds. I don’t use .410 for flying birds as I’m not a good enough shot. I try to be reasonable with my abilities so I can remain ethical when I hunt. Some folks can stretch the .410 out further than I can though. Thanks for the video!

My stepdad always used the 4 and 5 shot for Pheasants off the combine when he was farming out of an old full choked bolt action. Swore by them.

I remember back before steel shot requirements #4 and #5 lead being used for ducks. Woodies and Mallards off of farm ponds or jumping them off creeks. Looking at 20 to 30 yards tops. #4's also be used for dealing with pests on the farm, like coyotes, foxes, racoons etc. If there were no 6's we shot them at other game, rabbits, squirrels. I even shot an odd quail with them, but thats a whole lot of luck. My friend was big on them for longer range pheasants until I demonstrated what the pattern looks like using a pop bottle and a snowbank. #6 or 7 1/2's is where it's at with the .410.

You have got to get a 410 with x-full extended choke. It changes your view on patterns. Wow!!

I'm seriously considering one. Would be interested in what it would do with lead and bismuth.

I think that those loads were for long barrel 410 , it seems 80% of those guns are full choke. They were built for duck hunting before the days of steel

Hold a pocket/small flashlight on outside the hull and look inside and move the light back and forth you can see basewad, everything

If you live in a state that allows delivery you can order them with ease. Not cheap to get...but you can order them. That's how I've gotten the last 15 boxes or so of mine.

Being a western wing shooter, that pattern, paired with the fact 410 guns are super light, would be great for hiking mountain ridges and hills shooting grouse and chuckers-- rabbits too. I know from experience #4 and #5 lead puts the hurt on bunnies.

That makes sense. Western pack gun. grouse, chuckar....rabbits. Heck yeah.

I have several boxes of those in #4 shot. I plan to reload them with #6 shot because of shot count. In #4 the shot count was 100 in a 11/16 oz. Load and #6 count was 153 in 11/16 oz. Loads. I patterned the #4 in a Mossberg 500 with Jeb’s XXFull turkey choke and was impressed with the core @ 25-35 yards. The stock choke is.380 and Jeb’s choke is.376 the tighter choke shot #4’s better than the.380. My thought was the tighter choke would deform the lead and not pattern as well.

I have that Jebs choke in my CVA scout 410 came factory. It’ll pattern those 6s very well at 25-30 in my gun. TSS 9.5 shot makes it a viable 40-45 yard turkey gun.

I have a couple hundred Rem 2 1/2 inch. Have you ever duplex this hull in any videos or will you be. Would like to make a waterfowl load with them.
@bullet225ho
@bullet225ho Год назад
I haven't. I don't have enough hulls to work up a load and send in for testing. Well I have these 3" hulls that I could cut down...but probably won't go through all that.

Great video of a factory load. I have used more Winchester ammo than Remington, but its nice to that the big boys are as serious about quality products as we are. Thanks

So, these rounds were used for turkeys and rabbits. It’s what dad bought for us kids to use on Turkey and rabbits. Unfortunately, we never really used the 410 bolt action due to a malfunction in the trigger assembly. Us boys grew into the 20 and 12 gauge really quickly.
