As an Italian and living in the city of Ferrara, I can't be but a fan of Sarah's! 😄 Wish I could attend one of her Workshops sooner or later, even though my dream is private mentoring with her. Your work is amazing Sarah!

Thank you Sarah for the informative presentation. You are a natural lecturer and the tone of your voice is delightful. Grids do not focus light though. They simply reduce the spread. But this is just a minor lapsus. I look forward to seeing you again.

That's a matter of interpretation of the term 'focus'. Preventing the spread leads to a more focused direction of the light. It's the relationship between light and dark that makes the light appear more or less focused. It is the relationship between the soloist and the orchestra, that makes the violinist stand out more or less, depending on the decibel of the accompanying orchestra. If the orchestra is soft, the solo-violin is relatively more dominant for the audience. I am about to write a book about reasons why something appears to focus more or less. :)

Thanks for the precision. I agree (and that’s what I meant by the word focus - but agree it’s not a good choice of word and I’m glad you pointed it out for others so there’s no misunderstanding! Cheers and thanks so much for watching

Such a nice conversation and introduction to your beautiful work. The shot at 38:22mark, the full body portrait with the long dress. Do you remember with what light this made? I hear you often talk about de godox ad200 and a 120cm softbox. I didn't knew that that small light was powerful enough in such a big softbox and capable to make result like this. So I was thinking it was a stronger light? Really love your work.

Yes that was actually shot with the ad1200pro and the ring flash I believe (I’ll have to rewatch the godox video to check!) It’s absolutely possible to shoot a full body shot with a lower power light (using a wider aperture) but this shot was with the 1200 - bags of power!

Hi Sarah, when u shooting blended light , balancing natural light and strobe, what do you set your white balance on camera , do u use white balance flash setting or AWB auto ? Vasili.
@sarahedmunds

I tend to use auto white balance pretty much all of the time

Thank you for this video. I own the godox smart 250sdi (300 w) (old flash kit 3 lamps) but I'm considering to buy one of de godox AD series. I like fine art portraits and maybe freeze movements. Can you advice me wich of the godox AD serie I should buy? AD200, AD300, AD400 or AD600?
@sarahedmunds
@sarahedmunds 8 месяцев назад
Any of these would be great, but it depends on which aperture you prefer to use. I like to shoot at a wide aperture which means an ad200pro or ad300pro is enough for me. If you want to shoot at smaller apertures, and/or like to shoot with fast recycle time, then the ad600pro is maybe a better bet. Portability is also a factor - the ad200pro is very small and portable, the ad600pro is larger and heavier.

I would suggest the ad400 and ad200. The ad600 actually doesn’t recycle as fast as my ad400. I own the ad600, ad400 and 2 ad200’s. The ad200’s are about the size as a speed light opened up
