I will update the audio and expand on this question as I did NOT answer the piece on "Longevity" that was in the email. The audio will be at zacheven-esh.com/ep-435 Be on the lookout and get on the newsletter at zachstrength.com
64 yrs young and still training 4 lifts thanks to Wendlers 5-3-1 ,, would recommend this program for anyone. Great content coach !! keep preaching the message !!
Turning 50 this year and still competing in local and state strongman. I think the OP is on the right track. Your rules are don’t do the exercises that hurt because there are always alternatives, and don’t grind. You can go to failure on isolations, but be real careful doing it on the big lifts. Good luck, OP!
Good motivating message. At 55, I finally got my 13 year old boy lifting with me 3 days a week. The workout is hard and brief. He's just using the barbell for weight right now. Monday is high rep squats, bench press, negative chin up, Wednesday is military press, EZ bar curl, high rep squats, Friday is negative chin up, negative dip, high rep squats. He is up to 24 reps with his squats. I want to make sure that his form is down better before adding weight to the barbell. It seems to be working I see his form improving in the squat every workout. I'm planning to do some outside stuff also. Thinking about doing a circuit with dumbbells carrying them in different positions. Also plan on doing a little bit of running with him. I appreciate your motivating message I have a friend from Iowa that I keep in contact with who is in his 40s. He sometimes feels down and thinks that he is not lifting as heavy as what he should be. I always tell him, for his weight and height, that he is stronger than 99% of men his age, weight and hight.😢
40yo police officer here. Have 3 sons so trying to keep in shape. I listen to your content here and on Spotify while lifting in the garage before work every day. Thanks for your advice

Nearly 49. BJJ brown belt with a sore shoulder. I have barbells in my basement. Trying to stay strong. Focusing on longevity / strength. Overhead presses are tough.
Zach when you said your kids were 17 and 15 I just about fell out of my chair. I'm having a hard time with that sinking in, with two thoughts going through my head, "No way can they be that old." and "Dang, if they're really that old, then I've been follow Zach for well over a decade then."
Great info ! I agree 100% with what you said. My main focus as a trainer is minimizing sarcopenia and bone loss as in osteoporosis or osteopenia. But the secret sauce is if you maintain and/or increase muscle mass you will in general not have to worry about bone loss because they are inextricably linked. Not to mention the mitochondrial dysfunction that leads to insulin resistance with muscle loss as well. Resistance training and cardiovascular training are the true fountains of youth . I’m getting ready to go out and do a 50lb ruck walk. I’m out on the left coast
Zach, I've loved your stuff for a long time and I'm a big fan. Just a bit of feedback, I like that you shared screen to show the question. In the future, I don't think I would actually show your email or the email address of the person that sent in the question. Maybe just use an alternate screen that you can share that shows the question and a shortened name (like just the first name) of the person that sent in the question. Keep up the good work to get solid information out there man!
