well, because most people, even people considered big (think 6ft3 240lbs) are SO SMALL compared to hafthor and mass moves mass. i'm not denying his work ethic and i'm not saying smaller people can't deadlift but hafthor is like one in a million or one in ten million when it comes to his base level strength, a superb genetical outlier.
@@DennisGr except them and Bolton was 6’ 350lbs when he was the first person to pull 1000lbs and the record the original comment is talking about was set by Brian Shaw iirc who was over 400lbs as well
@@DennisGrMass moves mass is a huge simplification and also somewhat faulty as if it were true then best powerlifters and strongmen would be 210cm+. Very few great dead-lifters were over 193cm and most of them were shorter then 193cm, static lifts are in general not suited to very tall people, Thor, Brian and lately Tom are an exception. But I would say that Thor’s baseline strength wasn’t that otherworldly, it’s more the fact that he can simply keep improving without end
Dear Hafthor, during a livestream about a couple of years ago or so, you asked from the chat what is the 15kg keg WR, and when you saw the answer as 7.75m (back then it was Brian's) your response was "Wow, that's High!" followed by a deep sigh... Incase if you ever forget, or feel low after a bad day, just remeber that you are Hafthor Julius Bjornsson! There is nothing you cannot do! Congratulations on this absolutely incredible throw! I don't think there's anyone else on earth who can throw a 15 kg keg over 8 metres. 100% you will break the WR at SMOE to clean-sweep all 3 keg for height WRs (12.5, 15 and 25kg). You got this! As for the Deadlift, should I say anything at all? This was absolutely phenomenal as usual and I can't wait for 2 more weeks to see your 16th One Thousand Pounder! This is Huge but the next one will be MASSIVE!! *"Strongest Man on Earth", how badly you want it, it's yours Hafthor, go get what is yours! Koma Svo!!*
I fucking love that you're just in the outdoors doing this in front of fans and local children. That's true grassroots inspiration and the kind of awe inspiring feat that it is so, so desperately important for children to see with their own eyes. They have the world at their fingetips on their tablets and mobiles. Nothing keeps them entertained anymore. Seeing stuff like this going down on their doorstep in real life may give them their own drive to achieve something similar in their own life. Love it, Thor.
Awesome video!! So glad your training is on point right now, BUT the best part of the video was hearing you talk about the importance of spending time with your son! Enjoy the years go by soooo fast!! My son just turned 13!!
8m is awesome! but weight over bar takes a lot of energy especially after setting World Record, 435 was stable and i know you have a gear or two more when needed, The Mountain is back!
I'm praying for you Thor, specially for you to get the overhead power to a adequate level by the time of the comp. You are our old timers hope and we love you brother. This title is yours ! p.s - Amazing deadlifting and keg throwing ! The progress is amazing !
Son Hafthor Julius, you are definitely capable of breaking the world record in Colorado. My two grandsons and myself will be there to cheer you and to witness it for ourselves.
Thor i just wanna thank you for being born during our lifetime. Its an honor to watch you do these incredible stuff and we will be cheering for you for victory!
@@kevinmee3501 hell yeah I think his inspiration was the Farnese Herakles statue, if he had curly brown hair and beard. I'm also training to look like that statue
@@AlexandrosofSparta good on you my friend, you're forefathers were warriors , who drove out the Persian's and saved the west, I hope you're training goes well and you become a Titan.
You're such an awesome dad Thor, blessed with a beautiful family and kids destined to be little Viking strongman demigods with your training and support.
Good content as always and glad to have you back in the sport. I love the comment and real talk about being a father and enjoying and appreciating all the little moments.
Tom and Hooper kept it fun and a few other new guys. However, it's great to see one of the old guards back. Shaw leaving left a gap and Thor is the best I can think to fill it (was sad when he lieft). He is one of the best ever and gives the newer guys the mountain they need to climb to become legends
@@xaviermitchell578Nah he's right. We had a good decade or so of good entertainers and now it's back to the mundane. I was really into it when Eddie, thor and Brian were the cream of the crop. Now I don't even pay attention.
So not only did you throw it higher but it weighed more crazy how that little boxing break probably let you recover and the end result will probably be a stronger Thor then ever.
back in the WSM 2011 Final, that 435 kg will consider to be both event win and a WR, now it's a day to day basis let alone for reps. Can't believe how much the athletes' deadlift improve over the last decade
It sounds crazy but regarding the back injury comment. As someone who has a back injury, going to the gym and lifting weights has been the best painkiller so far. The stronger your back muscles and core muscles are the less loading your spine takes.
Looking great! Keg tossing with heavier weights sounds wise, maybe ramp up heavier, then finish at/near competition weight/height each session. You'll be drained some before that event at the Shaw, so will need more reserve. Of course you know all that. Looking great!
11:00 Yeah, me too. I usually listen to Iron Maiden casually when I'm training, but when it gets serious, I listen to the album Rasen by Orbit Culture and the first song, Svartport, really gets me going, as the name suggests.
Any excuses, anyone? The wind blew the keg higher? Thor is taller, therefore didn't need to throw it as high? He emptied the keg after weighing it? His dad provided the electricity that powered the scales? Anything? No?
The distance that you need to pull that deadlift bar is the longest I've seen any strongman do. Hixxy and Rauno are shorter with smaller arms and must have a negative inch or two advantage over you.
I have calculated Hafthor's ROM with this new narrow stance to be 27 inches, which is Enormous! As you said, nobody else has to pull it more than him when it comes to 400+ league.
Thor’s Power Gym is in the middle of Kopavogur, a town next to Reykjavik. A couple years ago I was in a restaurant, sitting eating a burger 🍔 and noticed a huge silhouette behind the window in a building opposite. It was Hafthor 💪 ..but really couldn’t have been anyone else 😂
I always wondered, if people like him have chronic pain they just suppress or just have the luck to be free of these things. Of course they have sometimes pain and sometimes injuries as well, but seeing him deadlifting makes me faint.
You better warm up that back before the kegg toss. Very explosive movement into full extension with weight. I believe the reason could be there in the soreness. Keep up the good work; routing for you ath shaw classic.
My dad used to watch Strongman with me, and we referred to the competitions as "fat guys throwing kegs over a wall". :) On a more serious note though- why not do it officially?
😯 Is the face you make when you realize that the band being referred to- and you have never heard about has half a billion listens on their tracks. THanks for the recommendation :) for me its Tool with Invincible. It must be my venerable age - but that tune really does it for me. Good vid - makes me wish that keg throwing was an olympic discipline ;)
Weight over bar is happening. We really want to see a big dead. Most importantly I want to see you gain that title. Only two left to gain. SMOE and Rougue.
Yeah we all want to see the king completing the strongman grandslam - Arnold Strongman Classic - Worlds Strongest Man - Rogue Invitational - Strongest Man on Earth
Thor, I understand what you are saying about practicing with the heavier keg, however, you need to build in the muscle memory for the trajectory needed to clear a 8m bar.
Well obviously you’re capable! I like the way you broke Eddie’s record just by a bit, cause he nearly died lifting 500 kg while you look like you can lift 550 kg no problem, lol
