Very helpful. Also if you have two switches, one for fan and one for light, don’t twist the black and blue wires. You should have two live wires. Attach blue to one and black to the other one. This way one switch for the fan and one for the light
Great tip. Side note I can’t stand why so many you tubers do these stupid FreeMason hand symbols. Inverted diamond hand symbol. Trumps notorious for it but why all these tubers do it is obnoxious.
Hi, I just installed three of these fans today and will say that your video was a lifesaver. I watched it twice and then did not need to look at the manual. One thing I would mention is that if you ever decide to edit or revise the video, or make other videos for similar fans, that you address what to do in a four wire situation from the ceiling. All of the rooms that I installed these fans had a ground, black, white and red wire. The red ceiling wire to blue fan/light wire allowed the light to be worked off of the wall switch, the fan must still be chain operated.
So I just wired up a fan like that and I’m have the same issue. I wired the blue and black to the black ceiling wire and now it only works off one switch. I have a red wire as well but it’s not connected to anything. What do I need to do so the fam and light can operate on two separate switches? Thanks
@@mrreneboy I suspect that the black wire in the appliance goes to the light and the blue wire goes to the fan (or it could be the other way around). And probably whoever wired the room had a 3-wire cable (white, black, red and ground) going to a wall location where they installed 2 switches.
Yes and no. The fan has separate wires so that the speed and light can be controlled by separate switches. The light can be connected to a dimmer switch, but if using a switch to control fan speed, it must be a variable speed switch, not a dimmer. In general, connecting a fan motor to a dimmer switch will eventually damage the motor.
Unable to remove the canopy trim ring. Tried to remove it for an hour, no luck. Tried exact reversal of installation, to the point that the entire plate is now moving but the trim ring is not. No light, no fan power at all and cannot remove defective unit. Any advice?
I bought this fan after installing a littleton that I got at home depot. The littleton made a noise at low and medium speeds, but this fan is super quiet. I was also surprised to see that it uses less power compared to the littleton. The thing I didn’t like about installation was the hook that you use to hang the fan motor. I’m sure it’s safe but it just seems like the motor could come crashing down if you bump it by accident. But overall it’s a nice fan for $100.
Found 3 of these at HD on a killer clearance deal $28 each I could t pass that up! They look great and work like they should to this day now 3 years later … only bad the light sucks! The output is not bright at all… But again at $28 Can I really complain 😂
Great tutorial I am having issues with the canopy cover, Will lineup with the screws perfectly however am I unable to turn clockwise to lock into place. Any suggestions?
Sometimes you may need to push up kind of hard to get the canopy ring to twist on, especially if your ceiling is not perfectly level. If clockwise doesn't work, try the opposite direction.
The mounting plate has slots that will align with the screws of a variety of sizes ceiling fan rated outlet boxes. Loosen the screws in the outlet box and then align the holes in the mounting plate with those screws and then slide it into position and tighten as shown at the 3:23 mark. If your outlet box is not ceiling fan rated, the screws may not line up and the outlet box would need to be replaced with a ceiling fan rated box. It may also be the case that the screw placement in the outlet box may need to be adjusted and moved to different points if able.
First off. Great video. I followed your steps and it made the set up easy. However, I can’t get the light to turn on. The fan works fine, but I get no lights. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for watching! Check that the switch on the LED module is in one of the 3 settings. If the switch is between settings, or not set all the way to one of the positions, the light may not turn on. Also, make sure that the light wire (blue) is completely connected to the house wiring and didn't loosen up during the installation (happens sometimes). If those tips don't help, we would suggest calling the Home Decorators Customer service team (1-800-986-3460). They are prttey good at troubleshooting.
Thank you for the helpful video. I wired the fan exactly the way you showcased but my situation is it only works on one switch m. How do you separate the light and fan for two switches?
The most importatn thing when using a wall control switch is that the fan speed must be set to high speed using the pull chain, and the fan's light set to on using the pull chain (1 pull). If the pull chains are not set, the wall switch will not be able to power the fan.
We have to say that we are not licensed electricians and if your wiring is different than the video/manual, you should call a licensed electrician to make sure it is wired correctly. That being said, a red wire is typically a switch wire and for this fan we would just recommend capping that wire using an electrical nut and electrical tape. We'd suggest making sure that the wiring from the fan to the house is still connected correctly and did not disconnect during the installation (that happens sometimes). If that doesn't resolve the issue, we'd suggest calling the Home Decorators Collection customer service at 1-800-986-3460. Their team is pretty good at troubleshooting and can help you out.
The fan and light operate independently via the remote control. The fan does not have an option to be installed without the light kit. The fan can operate while the light is off.

The fan is compatible with any variable speed ceiling fan wall control. The important thing is that the fan speed control is a variable speed control (not a dimmer style switch). The light switch must be rated for LED lighting. We would suggest the Lutron Maestro switches.
@@doublej5045 Not necessarily. There is a Lutron Maestro switch that is a combined fan speed control and light switch (model #MACL-LFQH-WH). There are other combined switches on the market, but we know that one works pretty well.
Sorry to hear that. Double check that the wiring is all connected correctly and didn't disconnect during the installation (that happens sometimes). Also, make sure that the color temperature selection switch on the light kit it fully in one of the 3 positions. If it is between settings, the light will not work. If connected to switches, the fan speed has to be set to high speed and the light set to on using the pull chains priot to using the switches. Hope that helps. If not, we would suggest calling Home Decorators Collection customer service at 1-800-986-3460. Their team is pretty good at troubleshooting.
Make sure that the wires are connected correctly and completely. Sometimes the wires from the fan to the house can disconnect during the installation process. Also, make sure that the switch on the LED module is in one of the three settings. If the switch is between settings, the light will not turn on. Hope that helps!
I am replacing a fan that has separate light switch control for fan and light. I assume that the black wire controls one (fan motor) and blue controls the other (light). Is this the case?
A loud hum can be caused by vibrating against the ceiling. Make sure that the mounting bracket is completely tightened. You may need a rubber isolator pad between the ceiling and mounting bracket. If the hum continues, call the customer service number on the manual and one of the team members will help troubleshoot. They will also be able to send the rubber pad if needed.
The daylight setting is the brightest - generating about 1200 lumens. However, we do not suggest using any ceiling fan lighting as the sole source of light for a room. Ceiling fan lighting is meant to be used in conjunction with other lighting like recessed cans or floor/table lamps.
Great video! Almost returned because no instructions. Googled the fan and your video came up. All hooked up. Fan works but not the light. I only have one wall switch, and double checked connections. What might I have missed?
Thanks for watching. Let me start by saying that I am not a licensed electrician, and you should always consult with one if you have power issues. That being said, if you have a wall switch, your house wiring is probably black, white, red, and bare copper. You have a couple of options for wiring. 1. Cap the red house wire and connect the fan’s black and blue wires to the house black wire, and then white fan wire to white house wire and fan green wires to house bare copper. That would give constant power to the fan and light. 2. Connect the fan black to house black and fan blue to house red (switch wire). This would allow you to use the wall switch to turn the light on/off with the switch. Or, 3. Cap the house black and connect the fan’s black and blue wire to the red switch wire. This would allow you to use the wall switch to turn the fan and light on/off. Before using the switch, you will need to use the fan’s light pull chain to turn the light to the ”on” setting. If the fan’s is wired to the switch, the switch will not turn the light on until the light pull chain is pulled once to set it to on. If that doesn’t help, I would suggest calling Home Decorators Collection customer service at 1-800-986-3460.
I attached my fan according to option 2 (black to house black, blue to house red, white to house white, green to house copper wire). The strange thing is that one wall switch turns on the light and fan, other does nothing. Could the red and black house wires be wired to only one switch in the wall?
@@smbmx6581 Check and see if the other switch goes to one of the wall plugs for a lamp on/off. Make sure you test all plugs both upper and lower. Sometimes it will be only one plug in a two plug outlet. I had to do that in my newly constructed home when I wasn't sure about the switches.
Technically, yes but it is not recommended. The issue is that there is not a dedicated space in the housing to hold a receiver. We have heard of people zip-tying the receiver to the mounting bracket to hold it in place. The issue is that the receiver may come loose and cause noise or safety issues.
@@ceilingfans101 Can't you jut put the receiver in the attic above the fan a and have the antenna feed down through the hole so it will pick the remote signal?
Yes, the light shade is installed using a twist lock method. To remove the shade, just do the reverse of the light shade installation. It will twist out of the light kit pan.
This video was super helpful but as soon as i installed the fan it was broken tha light would turn on but the blades wouldn’t spin and now a hour of my time was wasted 😂
We would suggest making sure that the fan's black wire is correctly attached and did not come loose during the installation. If that doesn't fix the problem, call Home Decorators Collection customer service. They are really good at troubleshooting.
Sorry to hear that. Make sure the wiring is still securely connected and did not disconnect. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would call Home Decorators Collection customer service at 1-800-986-3460 and they will be able to help troubleshoot.
@@doublej5045 You do not have to uninstall the fan to change the blade finish. We would suggest turning the power off because you will need to disconnect the light kit wiring at the base of the fan (between the light kit and fan).
