Yes! Before He-Man, there was Thundarr & Blackstarr! I loved watching those cartoons on Saturday mornings. To me I always thought that Thundarr was a mixture of Thor & Conan put together.
Thundarr The Barbarian is one of the best cartoons of the 80s I would love to see a reboot to this classic cartoon you can literally write a film from just one of those episodes of thundarr that's how good those episodes were I really wish that cartoon would have lasted longer I'm glad I grew up in the 80s there was just such amazing cartoons in those times.
THE YEAR IS 1994 FROM OUTER SPACE COMES A RUNAWAY PLANET. HURLING BETWEEN THE EARTH AND THE MOON.UNLEASING COSMIC DESTRUCTION!!First time I saw this I got a chill down my spine!!It was a great show and could have gotten 4 season. If it was not for Chicken Shit ABC!!
Thundarr the Barbarian was an absolute classic. I think what always struck me the most about the series was all the recognicable landmarks after the natrual disaster laid waste to them. Not only did it give a certain eerie atmoshere to the scenery but I love how they alway played a part in the theme or plot of the episodes. And yes, I'd love a reboot/revival of the series. Especialy one with improved animation and a story that can flesh out the characters. I also wouldn't mind a darker, more mature take on the series. Maybe one that could air on Adult Swim next to Unicorn Warriors Eternal and Primal.
With how they treat reboots by forcing an agenda? Please, no. Thundarr should remain classic TV cartoon history. All 21 episodes. Could you do the places they visited, next? New York City is obviously one of them.
Fun fact, Zevon’s name comes from the singer Warren Zevon. Zevon is famous for the song “Werewolves of London.” This episode was too on the nose with that reference.
Thundarr was my absolute favorite Hanna Barbara cartoon, and even as an adult now is still entertaining. Something to be said about descent writing as the bar seems pretty low today. Great music too...
Thundarr does indeed possess super powers. In 1 episode he readily lifts & tosses a full sized automobile at his opponents. Although, Thundarr is not as strong as Ucla.
I can't believe that after all these years they've made so many remakes of 1980's cartoon series like Voltron,Transformers and G.I. Joe for example and Thundarr is the only one that has never gotten a remake or even a movie which I would like to see or maybe even if they did a movie it would be nice to see it as a origin movie of like what happened on Earth the day that runaway planet that nearly destroyed the Earth and what happened with the aftermath and how the 3 heroes met now that would be nice to see.
one unintentionally genius aspect was that the main cast were designed by Alex Toth instead of Kirby. Also Kirby didn't write the world setting, Toth did. The juxtaposition makes things feel just a bit disjointed, but it makes the world have more depth. The heroes stand out from the villains due to having a subtly different design aesthetic. And some of the villains you go "wait, what? why???" because while as it's own thing it easily makes sense, it doesn't fit neatly into the big picture. But it's not that it doesn't fit, more that you don't understand HOW. It's the sort of background info that just doesn't fit into episodes, and would need to be in a book.
I think with the character Gemini where he has 2 personalities reminds me of Blitzwing from Transformers Animated where said Decepticon also has a split personality or in Blitzwing's case a triple personality where like Gemini's personalities are calm and collective and aggressive Blitzwing's personalities are calm and collective, aggressive and just plain crazy.
It would make a great movie.. maybe even a trilogy… First how the earth was basically destroyed by the moon and going on to tell Thundars story as he battled the evil forces that arrived ending in an eventual peace with a cliffhanger at the end 😮
Without out a doubt one of the best shows on tv . I still love it. It had everything you could ask for. The art inspired by Kirby . The stories and great characters. I would have loved if it was rebooted and made it like the old Flash Gordon animated series. Just really great on going story . No Woke stuff or anything like that just a great story.
@@kevinlacey8760 Alex Toth was the other big name here. You can kinda see the seams in the TV show where the different style meat each other. The big picture world building? Toth. The heroes? Toth. but most of the villains are by Kirby.
Nice video and tribute to a wonderful childhood series past .. i would suggest to include the locations of the adventures in the video as like kungfu, incredible hulk .. travelled the continent and became justice or heroes for the unjust
I know that. You can tell from watching the show. Plus,I own a book about Jack Kirby where it mentioned him working on Thundarr the Barbarian. Plus,he also did a storyboard for an episode of the Superfriends as well.@@MichaelKurse
@@MichaelKurse I would actually give Jack Kirby SECOND billing... behind Alex Toth. Alex Toth did the world building. Kirby helped populate it. So yeah, a lot of character designs scream "Jack Kirby made this!"... but they live in Alex Toth's world.
Hmm... pretty good video summary. But as I'm seemingly one of the top Thundarr nerds on the planet(I helped write a wiki about it)... I noticed a few things you messed up.. Mindok isn't a cyborg. Octagon didn't die.... Skullus's battledroids are energy constructs, not robots. Khromm, Argoth, Valerie Storm, Mazem... spelled wrong... the wrong spelling is due to the last letter missing. Sarott(and probably several others) you pronounced it wrong... like REALLY wrong. It's suh-Rott. The grizzly Snake is a monster... not a character. Tye's friend Arak is more deserving of mention. Seriously, I'm pretty sure you read the wiki me and Malcadon wrote... pay more attention next time! Also it'd have been better if you mentioned which episodes each character was in. You did them in a weird random order.
loved this cartoon along with Johnny Quest. Why no live-action show/movie was ever made is amazing.......along with space ghost and the jetsons .........reminds me of heavy metal
#KWL THERE WILL NEVER BE A REBOOT, REIMAGINED, Until #JackKirby, who was involved with #Thundar, and giving respect tor. Kirby, @Marvel should take it on!
It’s a little weird watch in English. Growing up in Brazil I watched in Portuguese and in black and white. This was my favorite cartoon. I used to think that something would happen in 1994. Thirty years later… hehehe.
I loved this show as a kid, and if it was done well, I wouldn't mind seeing a reimagining/reboot, maybe even a movie. Hollywood has shown it can do high fantasy movies decently currently with the newest D&D movie.
The three women travelling to the present day sounds like it could have been a back-door pilot. I wonder how far in time from the comet disaster they would have been.
*This is SOOO AMAZING!!! I could only hope **#MarvelousVideos** also makes a similar video about Galtar, Blackstar, Conan, FreedomForce/Space Sentinels, Mightor and the old Flash Gordon.* 💪🏼🤩 Wish the big studios would make a live-action #Thundarr movie. 🙄
I wish. Hanna-Barbera would give Thundarr a comic book of his own! Thundarr is a great warrior with indomitable willpower! enhanced strength, durability against injury, and incredible healing factor on him. All they need is a potential writer who has great ideas and creations for Thundarr the Barbarian storylines. Ookla is incredibly strong like that and a good friend to Thundarr and Ariel ought to possess more knowledge of magic like Dr. Strange. I don't know too much about Ariel and Ookla's origins. It is a mystery to me.
Ariel actually has a very deep pool of magical skills. Teleportation, energy barriers, magical constructs, disintegration beams, animating statues, scrying, she even heals a guy with magic in one ep! She has less raw power than a lot of the bad guys, but... she actually beats some of the bad guys in duels.
I would like to know more about the sun sword's back history. It had to been created by twentieth-century scientists, and since it's only allows Thunder to wield it, there must be a genetic biomechanical lock to it to prevent others from using it. Yes I am aware of the episode in which Thunder had to touch the sun sword to a regarded magical pool to become the sun swords Master again but there has to be a scientific origin to the Sun sword's creation there cannot be just a magical origin the sun sword has too much a science feel to it
I absolutely loved Thundarr!!!! It was a huge part of my Saturday mornings as a kid!!!! Such a great show for its time!!!! Would love to see this show remade today with new graphics and new storys!!!! Thatd be amazing!!!! Love the Content keep up the great work guys 👍
WOW!!!! Just... wow,my childhood flashed before my eyes. These episodes were so layered I never realized it was only 13 episodes. A reboot would be great. Even a movie there's so much to work with
I’m surprised that neither DC or Marvel didn’t adapted this series into a comic book back in the day’s. If they did, perhaps we could’ve had ourselves some Thundarr the Barbarian action figures from Hasbro,Mattel or Kenner.
Alex Toth and Jack Kirby did work for them, and there WAS actually a planned comic book line! However it was a smaller publisher than went out of business before it could get printed. We don't have anything other than a picture of one of the covers. Which... showed a floating casino ship?
I was talking about Marvel before they got bought out by Disney. A comic book line would’ve definitely ushered Thundarr into an iconic Toyline and possibly a future live action Sc-Fi film had Ruby Spears marketed Thundarr outside of just being a Saturday morning cartoon back then. Hasbro,Kenner or Mattel could’ve made some wicked action figures. Hopefully someone will rediscover Thundarr and get the rights to the franchise someday.@@davekemp9585
I really hope some entertainment company, buys the rights to this cartoon show, and so that way a new version of (THUNDARR: THE BARBARIAN) cartoon show could get made. Be it on the HULU network, or on the MAX network, or on the NETFLIX network, or on some other network.
