Hey Alfie, I'm a native-American, one trick American natives used to do was to dig a shallow hole the length of their body and the width. rake the coals from their fire into it before going to sleep and covering it with several inches of dirt. The coals will still smolder and give off heat, radiating it strait up to your body through the night.

EVERYONE who does prepper videos should take a lesson from AlfieAesthetics. His videos don't waste time with "Hey guys, I thought I'd blah blah blah because blah blah blah... Let me waste 10 minutes telling you a story you don't care about before I get to the 2 minutes of content you came here for." Concise and full of useful info! A regular RU-vidr would have divided up these 45 tips into 98 different videos. Tell your friends, and get the word out: We don't want fluff, we want content! Way to be Alfie! EDIT: Also, he's actually funny unlike so many others.
@JohnFourtyTwo
@JohnFourtyTwo 5 лет назад
I agree 110% to infinity and beyond! Seriously though, I completely agree with you. Personally, most RU-vid videos, regardless of content, are very painful to watch and listen to because so much time is wasted on the introduction, poor content delivery due to lack of speaking skills, lack of product/subject matter knowledge, lack of filming/editing skills, .etc. Alfie dives right in and delivers the package! Normally I can't stand humor in lecture type videos because the presenter normally isn't funny but Alfie doesn't have that problem and keeps the information and humor perfectly balanced and making you want more. Also, Alfie reminds me a lot of the guy here at "Alt Shift X" with his movie and TV reviews, the guy is spot on and doesn't get bogged down dragging you down every rabbit hole with sea stories, fairy tales, and other useless jibber jabber.

Hey guys, I just thought I'd drop by in this sub-comment section and say hello to my fellow commenters and share my thoughts on this comment on this video, but first let me tell you a little story of when I was just starting out, dropping a comment here and there, never even dreamt about commenting on a comment on this video! Obviously if I can do it, anybody can, you just need to believe in your self and you need a youtube account. You need to be firm, but flexible, you know what Im saying? Anyway, I think that's enough from me for today, don't forget to subscribe in order to learn what I think about this video!

Mix sugar and lemon together and dry them after. It can give you better taste on the water you collected. Also, dry the rice already cook, put the mixture of sugar and lemon together with the dry rice. Pack them in container for later use. Place a ranger band around your Zippo lihhter to cover the seam between the top and the base. This will make it water resistant and almost air tight. This will slow the evaporation of the fuel. Smear petroleum jelly into a ball of lint or a cotton ball, and squish and reshape it into a ball shape for about 5 minutes. Put the petro-lintball into an empty medication bottle for later when you need to start an emergency fire. I was playing around with km and miles and you're right it's pretty accurate for miles under 100 km. If the distance is over 100 km, the estimate can be several miles short. It turns out it's even more accurate to do what you said: half, then add first TWO digits (of a 3 digit number) ... and then add 2X the first digit. 100 km / 2 = 50 ; 50 + 10 (first two digits of 100) = 60 ... and then ... + 2x 1 (first digit of 100) = 62. ACTUAL miles: 62.1, a difference of 2.1 miles in estimate w/o the last addition 200 km / 2 = 100; 100 + 20 = 120; 120 + 2 x (2) = 124 miles ACTUAL miles: 124.3 300 km / 2 = 150; 150 + 30 = 180; 180 + 2x (3) = 186 miles ACTUAL miles 186.4 1000 km / 2 = 500; 500 + 100 = 600; 600 + 2 x (10) = 620 miles ACTUAL miles 621.37 I suppose I COULD use conversions but this is more fun for me. Thanks for the tip. :D

One of the best, real World SHTF videos i've ever seen. i like how simplistically it was presented, making it palatable for newer survivalist initiates. There were some misleading items however. 1: Where do people get the idea that a HIGH center of gravity is good for a pack??? Have any of these people actually tried this?? All it does is put you off balance and fatigue your back, abdominals and core muscles prematurely. Employ the waist belt of your pack to distribute the weight to your hips (that's what it's there for). Your hips and legs can carry far more weight for far longer periods of time than your back can. 2: Unless UK snaplights are made completely different than the American and German ones, NEVER TAKE THEM OUT OF THE FOIL UNTIL YOU NEED TO USE THEM!!!! They are packaged so meticulously for a reason, not just to make them pretty or tell you what color they glow. The air, light (or both) can degrade the chemicals in them, making them virtually inert over a period of time. Seriously, am i the only one that has actually tried this??? After a few weeks, you get so little light, it is completely useless to you - even as just a signaling or identifying light. i hope this helps people survive the zombie apocalypse.
@WeThePeople2020
@WeThePeople2020 10 лет назад
Also with the snap lights keeping them in the foil cover helps in other ways, when you open them tear off just a little bit of one end and you can use the cover to limit the amount of light or hide it completely if you need to.

I highly recommend a rechargeable headlamp. Plus a homemade tinder kit: 12-16" round piece of leather with 1" spaced holes around the perimeter to thread a leather thong thru the holes, finish with a 3" antler tine to cinch the closure. Also:) Two 2 large garbage bags: Cut 2 holes in each corner of each bag, about 3" wide, find 2 smooth branches about 8' long x 2.5" thick, run each branch thru the holes with the tops of the bags overlapping in the center, which you can stuff with clothing or leaves for insulation, now you have a hammock. Next make two tripods 5' high out of 2" branches tied together at the top, anchor your tripods about 7' apart; now place your hammock on the tripod Aframe & gravity will hold it in place a couple feet off the ground. You can even put an 8' long ridgepole from the tops of both tripods & rig up a solid rainfly, Justin Case of inclement weather. Ciao!

Talking about stining nettles: Formic acid can be used against muscle exhaustion if you need to walk some extra miles. Just take a piece of cloth and rub it on the nettles (or disturb an ants nest and cover it with a piece of cloth for a while). If exhausted, rub the trenched cloth over your aching muscles. There is a practice called "urticaiton" which is all about purposely getting stung by nettles to cure different kinds of pain. Additionally formic acid is antiseptic but the only halfway safe method of utilizing this (as far as i know) is to boil the nettles or the cloth used to collect it in water for some kind of tea.

/k/omrade:D First rule of surviving, get fit to fight. I've seen a lot of preppers and survivalists that have planed well, but are not in shape. Know your limits and always work on expanding them. Second rule is knowledge, learn anything that may be useful. Plus knowledge doesn't have any weight. Third rule is mental health. Buying gadgets and train up some muscles is not that hard. The first thing that will effect you is your mental health. Thinking of going lone wolf? Think again. You need others around you to keep up a healthy mind. and of course there are tons of other things, but to begin with, it's some advice for you:)

I see what you're saying, and I agree for the most part, but I really don't think I need other people with me and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way. I think most other people would slow me down, deplete my resources, and overall be more of a disadvantage than an advantage. I'm no marathon runner, but I am in much better shape than most people. I also have no bad habits, which I think is good and rare these days. Any bad habit, like smoking, drinking, doing drugs, etc is a weakness. The less weaknesses you have the better. I am also a much better shot than most people, judging by what I see at the range. I think I would be just fine if the SHTF.

Birch trees can be tapped like maples for sweet pure water.. The water can also be made into wine, good to know since surviving doesn't have to suck!! Cheers!!
@daniellemack5648
@daniellemack5648 6 лет назад
Actually with a good fixed blade knife you can cut into the bark of a birtch tree, carefully remove it and score the outer bark for folds to create a watertight container. Better yet use bark from a walnut tree as the inner bark is full of natural iodine that can be used to purify the water.

vulpes vulgaris if you touch a tiny piece of steel wool to a 9v battery it flares right up. One of the best most consistent fire starting methods I've seen.. you only need a tiny piece. .. try it out. .. gotta be plain steel wool, not the cleaning kind with soap infused in it..

Know your tools, practice, and maintain them. A tool without skill is a danger. A tool without care is a danger. It will fail you or even harm you when you need it most. Learn how to properly sharpen a knife, axe, and how to clean and service a gun. Always have 4 ways to make fire. Add a Fresnel lens, creditcard size, to your wallet. It can start fires or magnify hard to see text. Learn how to make your own tools including basic flintcrafting to make knives, axeheads, and arrowheads. Learn how to take scrap metal and forge it into a useful tool. Know how to make good proper charcoal, char cloth, and char oil (heat+oxygen deprivation) so that you can easily take the fire with you. Know your limits. Practice before the event. Things are a small fraction of being prepared. Knowledge is everything.

One big tip, a big knife can do everything a small knife can and more in most cases, especially if its a fine point tip like a clip point, the only case where this is wrong is in small fine work and throwing knives and even then that's dependent on the kind of big knife you have

In order to conserve fuel (matches and lighters) - Use a candle to light fires, light a short flat candle and then place it under tinder to light the fire, once the logs light remove and blow the candle out. This will extend your fuel use for fires.

nice video, some good tips n tricks here. One thing about making your fire ring with rocks. . . .Don't use rocks that have been sitting in water, like down by a creek or river. They tend to get water logged so when you put tem next to the fire and the water heats up enough it will cause it to build up pressure inside the rock and the rock will explode like a hand grenade. NOT Good!!

If you don't have a canteen with you or any foil. You can boil water using a plastic water bottle. Simply fill the plastic bottle full to the top with water making sure there is no air in the bottle. Place the bottle on the fire and it will boil without melting the bottle. :)

One thing I found in my U.S. Army survival manual is called the Pyramid Fire. Build your fire pit. Put your big logs on the bottom, followed by medium logs. Add your small logs and big sticks. Then your medium and small sticks. Last bit of wood is your twigs. Then put your paper on it and your tinder, charclotch, etc at the very top of the pile. This fire essentially burns downward And if memory serves, it burns longer. The cool thing about this fire system is that as each progressively larger fuel source burns, it preheats and also dries the layer underneath of it which helps each layer ignite. Theoretically, you could put some fairly wet or green logs at the very bottom of the fire. This will dry them out as the fire burns and by the time the rest of the fuel is spent, you'll have a nice bed of coals sitting on top of your green logs. Therefore, they *will* burn.
