Grandfather was a Marine Raider. He fought from 43 until 45. He arrived home in 46 and walked and hitch hiked from California to New Jersey - 2,742 miles. He wasn't fit to be around people according to family so he just slowly made his way across the country. We found out about him being in the Raiders from the obituary they posted - he never said he was with them. He refused to have anything Japanese made in the house. Good job on the video!

Makes sense, during WW2 the Japanese were beyond sadistic toward everyone, if anyone surrendered the Japanese would consider them less than human because they “lost their honor” so their POWs didn’t deserve human rights while simultaneously demonizing troops who beat them. They had no honor, just pure cowardice, because anytime the leaders realized they lost they chose to end it and demand everyone else did as well. That’s not even mentioning Unit 731 which made Mengele look like a saint.

I love your military videos. Especially WWII. 3 of my 4 grandparents were in the war. My maternal grandfather was a Naval Corpsman, " Doc".. made to take off their insign I a because they were the most targeted. My granddad fought on Guam, also time in Hawaii. My paternal grandfather was in the army in the European theater. My maternal grandma wanted to go overseas, but she worked at the Pentagon. She volunteered at 19. These stories and all their stories, photos, etc. Make me feel so close to them. Admire them more-if that was even possible, and blessed they came home! Love fat electrician!!!

I think you should do check out TFE's one on the Barbary Wars, the origin story to "Why you don't mess with America's boats"I think you would enjoy that one. Also TFE has said more than once that he enjoys reaction channels reacting to his stuff because he considers it a compliment that people consider him reaction worthy.

I worked in commercial Aviation for over 2 decades and many of those I'd worked with were former military. Lots of former Air Force, Navy and Marines. The saying is True, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine". They made for Gr8 Leads & Supervisors in most cases because they just won't be stopped and see problems as just another hurdle to jump. They solve problems better than any single group of people I've ever met, and they have a Gr8 sense of unity when it comes to taking care of their own.

To be fair......they kinda had no choice to leave wake island to fend for itself. Not saying I agree with it, or it was a good decision but if you look at it more in depth, After pearl harbor, none of our battleships were left undamaged and we had three cruisers and three destroyers that took damage, our carriers which we had 7 in service that being The Langley, Lexington, Saratoga, Ranger, Yorktown, Enterprise, and Wasp. The langley being the first carrier we ever had was not that good. Lexington and saratoga were cv-2 and cv-3 being the second and third carriers we made but like langley they were converted ships. Ranger was the first purpose built carrier we had. And then yorktown/enterprise/wasp were built using knowledge of the lexington classes and the ranger. Japan on the other hand still had most of their fleets intact plus 11 carriers, their biggest of which were bigger than the yorktown classes, and their pilots had much more experience than any american ones at the time. If the US had sent what fleet they had left to try to help wake, not only would it have put them in the position to be attacked and destroyed by overwhelming numbers, but it would have left the rest of the pacific unprotected. Plus the japanese were closer and had a head start. On the grand scale of it.....

To add some context, Wasp CV-7 was a smaller Yorktown class derivative hull. Hornet CV-8 was the third of the class.

@@dbzisawesome1234 Huh, I know more about the pacific than other parts of ww2 but I didn't know that about wasp.

Wasp was smaller because Yorktown and Enterprise didn’t use up all the allotted tonnage for carriers. It was the first to utilize deck edge elevators (necessary due to Her smaller size). She would also for-go a lot of the anti-torpedo equipment of the Yorktown which would lead to Her ultimate demise.

@@CombatReadyHQ you have to remember that while they were fighting at wake, the navy was busy all over the place. pearl harbor was still trying to clear battleship row and replace the planes that were lost. it'd take 1-2 weeks for a warship to go from california to hawaii and they were afraid that any relief forces they sent would be lost. they ended up recalling them to keep from losing them to what would be a pointless gesture, they didn't think they'd be able to hold the islands with what was availible.

Yamamoto said he could only guarantee 6 month of unopposed fight until the US got their shit together.. 6 month to the day later .. the battle of Midway happened making the Japanese lose their big carriers and their dominance of the pacific

Not trying to defend the government, but they basically had to leave Wake. If they tried to reinforce Wake, it is likely the US Navy in the Pacific, would have been wiped out.
@Maria_Erias
@Maria_Erias 7 месяцев назад
Agreed, the only two naval forces in that part of the Pacific that weren't stuck at Pearl were the carriers and the Pacific submarine fleet, of which only the carriers had support vessels. You can't detach the support vessels from the carriers for a resupply run without leaving the carriers short on fuel and supplies - if the carrier group was even close enough to make it to Wake before the Japanese did. And I imagine that the submarines were scattered all over the Pacific, so even if they had wanted to do something like try to stage an evacuation of Wake, or try to get them supplies or reinforcements, there likely weren't any submarines close enough to make it before the Japanese fleet steaming back from attacking Pearl Harbor reached Wake.
