I watched the video because I like you and am glad that I did because of the content. I dislike the name Casull when it's attached to any ammunition. My brother and I went to a range near his home to fire his Casull. We enjoyed a cylinder full of .45 Colt each before he loaded it with Casull. We each fired 1 round, and he put the other 4 back in the box. No. Thanks. OTOH, the information that you shared here is interesting, even intriguing. I would never have guessed that 1,200-1,300 fps would yield superior penetration results. Thank you for another wonderful video sharing great history, physics, and practical knowledge.
I have watched your vids for many moons The 45 colt is the first and best big bore the black powder load was 40 grains with a 255 grain lead bullet at 900 fps all bullshit aside that would kill anything
Jeff Quinn ( passed now ) of Gun blast was a fan of the 45 L Colt . And believed the hot loaded was better than 44 mag . Curious of what you think of using large pistol primers in low pressure rifle cartridge. I'm had good luck in 45/70. I've been looking for some hotter load data for green dot , Alliant powders for 45 colt 44 mag . None of my books has info using it other than lower around 800 fps to 900 fps.
I used to watch Jeff's videos; was sad when he passed away. I agree with him that hot loaded .45 Colt is better than .44 Mag, but I'm a fan of the .44 too. I wouldn't have a problem with using LP primers in low pressure rifle loads. One of my manuals shows 9.5 Green Dot with a 240 grain lead bullet in .44 Mag for 1170 fps. Another shows a .45 Colt load for large frame Rugers and other strong guns, of a Sierra 240 grain JHC over 9.4 Green Dot for 1000 fps.
@@Possumliving Thanks for the info loads . I have several Rugers . A Blackhawk stainless bisley 45 colt. Haven't loaded a lot for yet. I came across several hundred 220 lubed cast bullets cheap for I think 45 acp ?? But I loaded some in colt pretty wimpy to try. Like to try little hotter if I can around 1000 fps or 1100 . See if shoots ok and no leading.
One of the best, for sure. But I grew up reading Elmer Keith, and also read quite a bit of Skeeter Skelton, Finn Aagard and several other great gun writers.@@chrisbutton8545
