Seriously well thought out piece of kit. A loop of paracord (a second component of a buck saw) run through one of the holes in the blade, would make extracting the blade quicker, and reduce the grab and scoot by 50% 😉

As a woman who has carried a cross body purse like this...I would recommend netting on each side of the inside. Or you might end up dumping the entire bag on the ground to find something.

Nice! I have a full kit in my backpack but I always end up carrying my haversack from hidden woodsmen. I WANT ONE of these. So many well thought out and useful features.

I WANT ONE. A left handed model would be preferred, even though I’m right handed. I’ve come to learn to use left handed gear so things don’t interfere with my right hand sidearm. But as the saying goes, “Strike while the iron is hot”, and take what you can when you can. I would be more than happy to be able to buy this haversack from you, sir. Blackie, your design is the best I've seen, bar none. And the backpack conversion is a stroke of pure genius. I'll have to catch the 2nd run though. I had an accident in May that resulted in a broken neck. So funds going for that and I'm still recovering from paralysis, so I can't hit the woods again for months. Keep up the awsome work, and I'll use the time to watch and learn until I get able to hear leaves crunch under my boots. May the Lord bless and keep you and your family safe.

Love to have one. I really enjoy the content. You and a few others really helped me get threw a hard time in my life. Just getting on youtube on watching these videos gave me an escape from my problems. We lost everything 10 years ago and lived out of a camper for a long time. My wife and two boys that was tuff.

I like it a lot, I made something similar to it some years ago for the daughter of a friend to use at scouts, but I made the most strap longer and double sided with velcro to use as a cache so she could keep secret things young girls need to have hidden. But it is great to see you having it made.

I want one. That’s a well thought out haversack as you can see by my picture I am a Revolutionary war reenactor and have carried a haversack for many years. Your haversack fixes all the shortcomings of a Traditional haversack. Well done and wish you Success on your haversack.

A good small bag is a real blessing. I started with Duluth bags, Norwegian knapsack and now use aluminum frame packs for an all-gear storage or smaller Euro military bags (Finnish, mostly) for day hikes, short boating trips. Your haversack looks well thought out! If anything, I'd like to see more attachment points. Not critical but a guy can't have enough. Can be added DIY, too.

genius, Blackie.. personal customization is the way of any experienced technician. We're all different, and its difficult to find something essential that is built around all of your own needs. Answer; built it yourself!

You've done a great job designing this haversack, Blackie! I own two Rothco haversacks (ammo bags, really) and at best they are adequate for field use. That belt sleeve for a buck saw blade is ingenious. I am not a 100% proponent for haversacks in that most of them tend to slide with forward bending movement which gravity is the culprit. I resolved that by sewing D-rings on each bottom corner to which I attach an extra strap (luggage strap that is detachable). The bag usually remains at the small of my back where it does not interfere with any shooting position whether I'm standing or prone, even if I have to lie on my side. Anyway, this bag is a brilliant design and I WANT TWO of them, one for me and I will gladly pay for Just A. American, who is suffering from a broken neck injury. At $75 a custom design by Blackie Thomas is a bargain; just sign mine, please!

Looks awesome - one suggestion - take that strap and open it up, maybe add velcro so that you can double up and close it again. Keep a long division in the back, for something like the sawblade, and do 2-3 divisions in the front where you can stick in a pocket knive, lighter, small torch or the like...you can probably add a hair of an inch on the width of a strap to create more space and comfort....maybe add a loose sheepskin sleeve that you can pull the strap through when you’re carrying heavy, or even make it a canvas sleeve that can roll out to a collecting bag... Good luck for now !!

As a permanent piece of gear for that sleeve, I'd use a spare ferro rod and striker. Maybe you can wrap some masking tape around the ferro rod to cover the sawblade when you return it

Great design Blackie. I would be interested in ordering one when the production model becomes available. I've noticed a few suggestions in the comments for possible improvements/options, so here is mine. I was thinking that a slot across the front layer of the strap, reinforced much like a button hole, just above the tip end of the saw blade would make the insertion/extraction process quicker/easier. A second layer of reinforcing on the underside of the strap, several inches each side of the slot should assure the integrity of the strap. A flap over the slot with a snap would secure the blade. OPTIONAL - Make the flap out of leather, with your smiling face embossed on it! 😁 Or maybe the owners initials? Good luck moving forward with the project and I will be looking forward the seeing the offering you come up with. Best Wishes, Tom
