is sounds like pure, raw FORD POWER. nothing like the torque from a 460. i love how it wants to twist the whole truck when you rev it. my dads got an 89 F-250, same engine but EFI (stock) so its about 11mpg. but it gets the same mileage fully loaded or empty.
I could listen to that all day. I "had" a 327 Chevy that sounded like that in a 72 short bed CST edition. I'd pull up and shut it off and folks would ask me to crank it back up just to listen for a while. Nobody knew but it was a turd below 4,500 RPM's then it screamed like a 2 stroke motorcycle. I loved pulling up beside the kids in the Hondas with the coffee can exhaust and stupid wheels. I'd slowly rev it up to about 5 grand and quickly pop the clutch just to bark the wide rears like it was gonna suck their rattle box thru the breather. With that cam it would run as fast in 3rd gear as it would in 4th. I had to have it rolling to get life out of it but I'd get into it at 4,500 RPM's up to 6,000 RPM's And it was head snapping fast. Then gas prices shot thru the roof and it wasn't really practical for an old man anyway. Sure wish I'd put a simple RV ground cam in it and a 2 barrel intake and kept it. They were a fine driving truck.
yeah must be, alot of the old muscle car engines ran upwards of 11:1 on pump gas so the lead and probably timing have alot to do with it, the lead i thought was to cushion the valves before hardened valve seats, thanks for the tips, my engine is going in the f-100 I'm restoring, i love old fords, yours looks and sounds beautiful, maybe i'll post a vid of mine when its done, take care of the truck and yourself!
it looks like a 77 bronco. i have an 88 ful size bronco with a 351 stocked engine. but im jealous of your bronco. yours will leave mine in the dust with all that power. mine will still throw you into the seat when you slam the gas half way. strait piped thats they was to make it very loud on any engine. but i like that sound yours make at idle. good luck dude!
i have had bad luck with anything that is made by interco tire. if you stare at them, they dry rot! my brother in law works for specialty tire. they make super swamper, mickey thompson, and cepek tires. i havent heard anything good or bad as far as pitbull tires. very nice bronco. i had a 78 with 40" ground hawgs. that would go anywhere, but now have a 1985 f350 with a 466c.i. on 39.5 swamper trxus. hope to see a vid when your done!
nice job!! like the headers- starting to think i should of got the ones that go outside of the frame( i put flow tec on mine they hang a little low and going to have to bring the exhaust tubing back up right after the cross member for the transmission.
holy shit..dude lemme kno wen its done and post a new vid and show the whole truck the next time, althogh just seein basically the engine is good enough..hell thatd be awesome if it was legal to run open headers because that truck sounds so badass
Love it! So many punks in my area have a weak ass "dual exhaust".. That is, one Flowmaster knockoff with two outlets. This sucker is is definitely a breath of fresh air, sounds like a beast!
i find it great that you have a might engine under the hood but the fact you keep your truck in very nice condition makes me happy because all people care about is a powerful engine but the body looks like shit but not in your carse..i also have a mud truck its a 1978 351 modified over to a 551 had it for almsot 34 years owned it since it came off the lot and kept it in mint condition while mudding it. i love how u keep your neat and clean
nice lookin bronco, that thing is goin to be mean when its finished what size cam? i can hear that baby choppin away in there and it sounds pretty good sized
ah, got ya, um building an 11:1 small block ford, but its got iron GT40P heads, the most they say you can run with iron on pump gas was 9.5:1, i didn't catch if you had aluminum or cast heads, but i figured 12.5:1 was a little high even for aluminum, never thought of avgas, guy told me that pump premium with a booster would be ok, but i was gonna run race gas cuz i like how it smells lol, thanks
the open headers are mean as hell sound great and are louder than any glass pack could be but my point is a quality muffler (flowmaster 50 44 or 40 series, magnaflow, gibson, borlas) sounds better than any glass pack
No, it's a 78-79... The 77 was a little Bronco. I guess it was converted to leafs because that's what that D60 had on it. Sounds pretty good though, what's it gonna be used for?
yeah its deffinatly youre own fault if youre only pulling in 6 mpg, my bronco has a stock fuel injected 302 auto on 38's and i'm knockin down 17-20. that lumpity lump cam sounds good man nice build, FORD POWER
@reap62 Hahha... thanks again. I'll make sure to be careful with it then. lol I'm just gonna hook the winch up to the auxillary battery and ignition the the main one. That'll work correctly, won't it? And they'll both get charged by the alternator.
its not my own fault if i got three other guys with the same truck getting the same mileage. there is no leaks it runs perfect without bein rich and it pulls no matter wat. the only thing i can think of is that altitude. im over a mile above sea level and that will affect mileage greatly.
what are you going to run for tires? i think im going for a set of pitbulls for my next set on the old f350. are you going to put an exhaust on that or turndowns? looks like the paint is getting burned on the frame.
Hey I noticed dual batteries.. How do you hook those up correctly? Because when I get my winch, i want to run duals, but not sure on the correct way to do that where the alternator will charge both..
Well I gotta know what rear end you are using because mine keeps shearing the splines on the axles. I have tried 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton axles. Gears are holding up well. Im lost
Man, I love the whole thing... But I ask for you to change one thing, and that is the factory lock out hubs.. Put some Mile Markers or some Warns on it.. Jesus man! lol Please and thank you.
whether its a cummins , duramax ,or powerstroke, with just a mild upgrade it will beat any big block, on any given day and still get 3 times better miles to a gallon and a diesel will last way longer then any big block no matter how hard you push it
@50tbrd88 i agree dieslel are good on street trucks but i have beet cummings with my stock 5.7l in tow test at top truck cause they have to shift and i dont.
my 88 is a stock 460 with dual glass packs and i get roughly 6 to 8 miles to the gallon. interstate o can get 12. but in town i get shit. i drive mine to school also.
ya well i am also a teenager with a led foot and my 88 F-250 has 35'"s on it. in town i still get about 6 and it seems that everyone i know that has the same truck as me getrs the same milage. but yet again i live in colorado and the altitude is a bit different up here. little bit higher up.
Hey, what cam is that? I just took the 400 out of my '79 Bronco, and am planning a 460 build. I have a 460 from a '77 lincoln. Lift? Duration? Company?
Totally agree. I reved my 460 out every day for years and it did nothing but get looks. Probly not the best for it but NebraskanCowboy must not be to much of a cowboy if he thinks doing what this guy did will blow his motor.
why not put a cummins 24 valve with an allison 6spd in there , i did that with my 78 ford bronco and with several upgrades form gale banks i get around 550 hp and the mileage is like 26 -28 miles to a gallon , it cost about 15gs when you include frame and suspension upgrades.
