Just bought a soarer cuz my 2010 wrx aint gonna be on road for another 5 months cuz its not road legal. Purchased a rego'd soarer but i might actually do this to mine. Got a few garrets and precision turbos lying around. Just wondering which gearbox to use
Gearbox depends on which country you are in and whats available. Over here in NZ an R154 is a good option. Or T56. Some countries a CD009 is a good choice. For turbo it must be strong.
I just love these! Learnd about the Soarer when I lived in NZ (3,5 Years). Owned a 2JZ-GE Soarer in NZ. We didn't get these cars in Germany. So it took me 10 Years to find an SC400 (1UZ-FE 1993 build), which is a LHD Soarer with different gauges and a different Antenna. I own that car for 3 years now and love it. There are less than 20 SC400 in Germany... When I left NZ I couldn't sell my Soarer. It's my dream car and I couldn't let it go. Stored it at a mate's who had a 1UZ Soarer. The deal was, if it's not sold in a year, it's his car. Fair enough he took that car and put it to good use. I'm completely fine with it! It would be an absolute dream to turbo or supercharge my 1UZ but I haven't got the skills or the money to do so. And I absolutely want the H Numberplate for Historical Cars. It's really expensive to insure and tax that car right now and it will be sooo much cheaper once it's got the Historical certification. Love your work. Love Soarer/SC400 Love New Zealand
@@CartuneNZ Not anymore. I ve got an SC400 (LHD) now and I've got an IS300 Sportcross as well. So I'm not missing it anymore. But I love your Chanel and I love you Turbo 1UZ builds. Nobody here in Germany is doing anything with 1UZ engines. Sadly!
Greetings from the Netherlands, also a rare sight over here. We have a small club with soarer and sc cars, about 25 members and there are not many more in the country. Fidling around with UZ engines myself and glad to see it is slowly gaining some popularity, just unfortunate they are hard to come by
I'm looking at doing a rear mounted turbo on my 99 gs400 1uz-vvti can't wait to get it done the sound just makes me want it that much more. And I love how in America the 1uz is so underrated hardly anyone truly doing things with them. Ya we have Musa but lol it's Musa his sc400 is a monster
Can't wait to get an SC400 for a project car. Custom fab boost piping is going to be such a fun challenge and it's a pretty beefy engine so as long as you stay below 20 pounds of boost with fuel pump, rails, and injectors there is no need for internals directly after turbo install, although in the long run I would like to swap it to a forged block and internals and gut the car into a full street build.
I’m boosting my sc400 next June, i plan on buying most of the parts from 1uz tech. I’m going with a precision PT6466 turbo it’s rated at 900hp. Im getting a cd009 swap kit from collins and im going for 600hp and more in the future
You did hear he did many years on the first one then blew it within 8 months of going turbo and second one is dying. Jason is just going to keep going until it blows. Cheers Kelvin
I've heard various claims. w58s holding up, some of them don't. r154s holding up, some of them shattering into a million pieces. its a crap shoot. especially these days the cars they're coming from are now 20-25+ years old.
stock head gaskets and valve train eh? Just curious, would it be typical to be able to push that much power on a UZ that's been unopened like this one, or is it more of an exception? I've got a 92 SC400 with about the same KM's on it, and as far as I can tell is very healthy, and after seeing this one it's got me thinking
Yep, presently stock head gaskets and valve train and Its reasonably typical. I recommend flicking in some steel head gaskets(I did a video on an option there) if possible and they make amazing power for a little 4 litre. Cheers Kelvin
how hard was it to get the parts and what was the approximate total cost without the labour? was thinking of supercharging my soarer but I have shifted to turbo
I didn't discuss cost with the owner and as there are so many option's available its best each person does their own budget. The owner of this is good at doing deals and swaps for parts. Cheers Kelvin
Too sexy 💪💪When I hear people talk about cars and they say their favorites is Ford and Chevy then I say My favorite is Lexus you should see the looks on their faces because they have no idea LOL
Would a guess you are from the USA be right? Some guys get very uptight about "their" brand. I can appreciate all of them but certainly biased towards my uz family. Cheers Kelvin
Nope, soarer v8, just like sc400 never had a manual option, in fact no 1uz car had a manual from factory. The only uz engine with a manual was a 2uz landcruiser in a few markets. Cheers Kelvin
This one had a W57 or w58 at the time of the video and they had a R154 to be fitted. The Toyota gearboxes are more common here in NZ than the Nissan stuff. Cheers Kelvin
First thing thank you for responding. what aftermarket ECU, do you recommend, second is it something I can do myself or do I need professional help to install it.
I have a playlist on a couple of different aftermarket ecu jobs for vvti and non vvti. I show wiring Link ECU which I use a lot of, I'm a dealer for them and they are NZ made so I'm supporting a local product. Maybe watch some of my link videos and see if you have the skills to do it.
If only they would let me at the development team. The new supra would be running a V10 Vfa engine , All lexus would have this sort of upgrade available. Cheers Kelvin
Ive run stock internals on 15psi for years no issue, with a few squirts at 20psi however forged internals make things safer. There's much more to it than boost pressure.
You sad that cams would help the power up top. Is there cams you would recommend to fit to these engine. Especially the vvti has it’s what I have swap in to my is200.Was looking to get a set for my car for n/a. I like the sound of these engine but would sound even batter with a big cam I think.
I know this is on standalone but can you really boost on the stock ecu? I read it is possible up to 7psi but there is a lot of misinformation out there so not to sure whether to listen. I have a 1uz and turbo parts and don’t want to make crazy power, but don’t know which route to take.
There are guys who have successfully used stock ecu with boost as the stock ecu is mapped very rich in top end with relatively conservative timing for a na. I see some succeed and many more fail do I never bother and go straight to a standalone.
Correct, this one is unopened. Customer built so I got as many details in the video as I could. He turns up here every now and again to answer questions. He has plans of building another one.
Can I use Stock K20 Coils on a 1uz? Also What's the dipstick length for the '95 non vvti? I lost mine I can't seem to find anything near me so I'll make do with what Engines available with similar length
I need this setup on my uzs161. I don’t trust the rods especially since hearing of a fella that windowed a block at 340rwhp at and 8* of timing and zero knock...
I really avoid boost on the skinny rod engines. Even though I have done a few I let the owners know they carry a risk. uzs161 go well , again lovely cars to drive. Cheers Kelvin
@@CartuneNZsorry old comment but how much reliable, daily drivable hp do you think you could put behind the transmission (a650e) / and the skinny rod 1uz? and if i want to get around 400-450hp on a budget what do you think i should do? anything is much appreciated thanks
I’m thinking about putting a supercharger on mine with 280,000 miles sounds like I should be OK and good to go does anybody have any recommendations for a supercharger for my LS400
You would delete the hydro fan and plastic radiator for aluminum rad and electric fans to free up space for a turbo or a set of turbos like td04’s. You can get an idler fan pulley from an LS400 and run a shorter belt once the hydro fan is deleted. Relocate the battery to the trunk and youll have all the room to plan out your turbo build.
CartuneNZ can a 1998 Lexus gs400 vvt-I system with 247,000 miles take a turbo set up I may need to change out the transmission I’m not sure but I can’t explain how badly I need this done
How many times have you watched this now? haha. RU-vid didnt like your comment but given most watchers are male I think its all fine. haha. Cheers Kelvin
Hopefully you know that toyota have a proper tps setting process for a reason including having the Idle switch in the correct place. Im yet to watch it but I spend my life setting TPS correctly after some idiot has cranked it all the way around one way or the other. Cheers Kelvin.
Jason Tewnion can you tell me when the boost actually starts coming on ? At what rpm , you said it dies off after 5000 rpm ? What fuel you using mostly for the power in the video
@@mornehofstede4764 on the Dyno boost starts at 2000rpm at 3psi, 2500rpm 10psi, 3000rpm 16psi. 98 octane pump gas. Boost holds all the way but power falls after 5000rpm due to stock cams. Still makes good power though
