Peter Van Sant spoke with Steve and Kristi Goncalves, parents of Kaylee Goncalves, who share new details about the night of the murders and the investigation.

My sister was murdered 2020 in Spokane and was similarly stabbed 120 times. Prosecutors and defense attorneys kept cameras out of court and told us not to talk to them and they ended up making a deal with one of her murders and letting one go. FIGHT TO KEEP THOSE CAMERAS IN THE COURT ROOM, hold the system accountable 🤍

"how can everyone just go on like nothing happened when my mom died".... and I know we expect our parents to die before your kids but still....Especially when you were close to the family member and don't have a lot of family members that are close it's even more harder.

My sister Lenora was murdered 12-24-2020 by her husband Dr Tod Lawhon; he EXECUTED her! It has been a long road. Sentencing was 9-14-2023. A very 'sympathetic' Judge for the murderer! I pray you all, Kaylee, Maddie, Xana and Ethan receives truth and justice. I too will keep my sister Lenora Lawhon's memory alive. “Justice must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done.” We have, for some considerable time, had the technology available to us to make that happen and this case ought to be treated no differently than any other high profile trials, which have been televised/broadcast. If anything were to be cited as a possible cause for a less than fair hearing, it'd surely be all of the highly prejudicial pre-trial publicity, not the public accessibility of the court proceedings?

Is there an actual Idaho law requiring cameras in the courtroom? Trials are public so you’re welcome to attend. And if there isn’t enough room for everyone that wants to come should they perhaps make a law that says all Idaho trials should be held in the Kibbie Dome.

This is from the Idaho.gov website. Which law are you referring to? Audio/visual coverage is authorized subject to the discretion of the presiding judge. The presiding judge maintains the right to limit audio/visual coverage of any public hearing when the interests of the administration of justice requires. Authorization may be revoked at any time, without prior notice, when in the discretion of the court it appears that audio/visual coverage is interfering in any way with the proper administration of justice.

They did have a dog.. we don’t know if they had a gun, but either way- they were sleeping and couldn’t have gotten it in time. Cameras help after the fact but if you’re sleeping how do they help in the moment? They didn’t let their guard down. Whoever did this is sick and targeted someone in the house. We all have to sleep some time. Heartbreaking.

If this man get's off, I don't think anyone will be able to look at these victims families and not want to hug them or have the words to describe how sorry we are, and how the justice system failed not only these families but those kids that were senselessly, and savagely murdered. Imagine living your whole life and your life ends with your best friend they went together as they lived in life every day they were together every single day . I dont remember who but kaylee or maddie was only there i think kaylee for one last sleep over before she moved out of state and to show her best friend the car she bought with her own money .i know the feeling of sleeping feeling so safe comfortable and happy during sleepovers with my childhood best friend . I also think of the future of xana and ethan they may have had kids and been so happy their whole lives it seemed they had a goal for them to make themselves a family

The 4 victims also need a fair trial, and if he's guilty, there won't be any fairness because nobody would be able to watch if there are no cameras. If you have brain cells you will be able to watch and in FAIRNESS know whether he is guilty or not . Heis hiding behind all these technical points. But others say E and X were targets, yet others say it was MM and X because of the drugs issues. They originally said one victim had defensive wounds and that was Xana. Now the Goncalves family is saying the same about Kaylee. Just like they once said she was the original target. I get that they’re in pain but they always seem to make everything in this case about their daughter only.

What the Media doesn't tell you, it's that Bryan could actually escape prison since the girl that saw him in the house, didn't call the Police for 8 hours. Besides dubious DNA evidence. He could easily claim he was already in the house to buy drugs, but not inside that day.

The defense claim there is no connection between him and the victims, and that he was just out driving that night. So his alibi is not that he knew them and was there to buy drugs.

Since no one alive actually witnessed him murdering the students, except for the silent dog, much of the case will be circumstantial. Her not calling the police means nothing. Calling the police is called 'Good Samaritan'. Choosing not to be a Good Samaritan is not illegal. You can see a man stabbing someone down the street, you are not going to jail because you didn't call police nor is that man getting off assault charges because you saw it and didn't call police. It is not mandatory to call the police. She didn't call the police for 8 hours because she was not in the room with them as they were being murdered, so she would have no clue they were dead for many hours. She probably didn't even have a habit of ever even going up on the 3rd floor.

@@Pllm30 Give me a break. There was for sure struggle noises to the point she peaked through the door multiple times. Doesn't make any sense especially with a Smartphone around. Would make more sense, someone too high and only after settle down past some hours, ask for help...from friends. Which could actually be disposing from drug related evidences. Even so, it opens a big breach the defense will eventually explore.

She was just expressing the extent of pain she feels having lost her daughter. She’s not literally saying life should stop for you and that you need to remember Kaylee. This isn’t about you either. She lost her child and it’s hard to see life going on without her in it, that’s all she’s saying.

I wish 48 hours would not jump the gun and show their investigation before the trial even starts. BK has waived his right to a speedy trial, so we don't know what the trial date is yet.
