Wow, great discussion. Interesting your findings about high intensity cycling and methane bacteria. I am/was (thanks to long covid ugh) a fulltime cyclist and my Biomesight result showed very high Methanobrevibacter. Can you link that study? I also suffered from binge eating/food cravings issues, similar perhaps to a eating disorder.

Really helpful episode thank you. If someone has candida overgrowth as a result of a weak immune system generally what do you recommend to support the overall immune system? Cheers!
@ourhealthpath
@ourhealthpath 3 года назад
Hi David. Glad to hear the episode was helpful. It really depends on each individual and what may be impacting immunity in the first place. It could be anything from chronic stress, to poor sleep hygiene, to alcohol intake, or nutrient deficiencies, or dysbiosis, a sedentary lifestyle or excess exercise, lack of sunshine. So how we support the immune system will be based on the unique needs of the individual.

@@ourhealthpath thanks so much Alex. As a final quick question would you mind if I asked had you ever heard of the product Robuvit which claims to have studies showing effectiveness for Chronic Fatigue System and whether you rate it as a supplement to try? Thank you.
@ourhealthpath
@ourhealthpath 3 года назад
Hey David. I haven’t actually heard of it to be honest. I’m always a little weary of claims like that as CFS has multiple causes and thus I question how a supplement can help all cases (if that makes senses).

How does Dr. Hawrelak explain the superb health of the Masaai and Eskimos on their traditional high fat high meat, no plant diets? Doesn't make sense what he is telling us.
@ourhealthpath
@ourhealthpath 3 года назад
Hi Jacob. Thanks for your comment. The Masaai are known for having quite a high fibre diet, while also in the dry season having a high intake of milk and animal produce too. In fact research has shown profound changes in their microbiome based on the season, becoming more like a Westerners microbiome in the dry season (as their dietary fibre reduces). I haven't been been able to actually find much research on the Inuit microbiome and one study showed it had similar diversity to Montreal residents. But it is very tricky evaluating traditional lifestyles as the environment plays such a big role within microbiome research. I hope this helps!
@92JacobG
@92JacobG 3 года назад
@@ourhealthpath thanks for your answer. I am wondering where you read that about the Masaai? The traditional Masaai diet is meat, milk and blood plus small amounts of specific medicinal plants, honey and fruits. There is nearly zero fiber in their tradition diet. However, in recent decades some subgroups have started to incorporate foods like maize due to food shortage. Since those less evolutionary appropriate foods got incorporated their health also started to decline. Most current studies are not on tradition Masaais but on the groups that consume grains.
@ourhealthpath

@@92JacobG Sorry Jacob, I was initially thinking of the Hazda, not the Masaai! Although I can't find much actual research on the Masaai. These are two interesting articles that speculate there high levels of physical activity may negate the high intake of animal produce/fat: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18523037/. nutritionstudies.org/masai-and-inuit-high-protein-diets-a-closer-look/. Have you seen any actual research on the Masaai from a microbiome perspective?

great episode , i have a question, does antibiotics cause permanent damage to the gut? and do you have any videos on h pylori ? thanks
@ourhealthpath
@ourhealthpath 2 года назад
Thanks! Antibiotics can cause long term changes but there is a lot of nuance to this. The health of the microbiome pre-antibiotics massively influences how the microbiome will respond to the antibiotics. But ensuring you are living a ‘microbiome nourishing diet and lifestyle’ will allow for the best recovery from them. No we don’t have any videos on h.pylori but because you’ve mentioned it we’ll look to release one soon!

Ive spent years and years reading about histamine. My histamine issue went away after fixing my gut. My sibo didnt go away but my histamine did. So i do think its some kind of hyperactivity...but i think its not only got related. my histamine issue was away for 2-3 years. I had to take antobiotic ear drops and now i have histamine issues around my face...I think in this case its not the intestinal flora but the ear, nose face that is affected. My stool consitentcy has stayed the same...but i do get more bloated. But anyway, Im doing "the dr hawrelak diet" so my issues should go away in 1-2 months.

Firstly well done for taking control of your health so far. And thank you for sharing your experience. Yes histamine intolerance is intimately tied to gut health but there are many other factors that have to be considered too. Good luck with the Dr. Hawrelak diet!

@@daaaxo8583 Hi, there is no such diet that has his name. Its was he recommends to patients besides the tailored treatment. He mentions things in his videos. The general rule is try to eat 40 types of fruits and vegetables a week. I can post what he advices if you want...I dont think its a secret.
