Great job Jim!! I can't believe how expensive that Dow Corning 55 lubricant is! The whole small engine business is going down the tubes with gov't overreach and corporate greed. I've noticed a number of small engine shops on YT are shutting down their business because of overpriced, hard to get parts and poorly built products. Gotta keep those Snapper RERs going!! BTW, a neighbor of mine put her Honda self-propelled mower to the curb and I couldn't resist taking it as it was in nice condition. Wouldn't start at first but I took the carb off, cleaned the intake jets, changed the fuel and it started right up. Just had to buy a new plastic piece for the self-propelled adjustment lever. That's a about a $300-400 mower for free. Also, Honda is getting out of the mower business in the US after selling out all their current inventory.
Hey Jim great video, & content. I've been using e85 for as long as I can remember without all these issues. All I can say is for those of you who use ethanol fuel make sure you use top tier rated fuels only; Everything else is garbage! I only buy my fuel from Costco. & don't use any fuel that's 30 days old, & always store your equipment inside after each use. SNAPPOUT.
I had a chance to buy a Snapper walk behind mower that had electric start, self propelled, and a side bag which in my opinion is a million times better than the stupid rear bags that cause back injuries 50 bucks. and I passed on it that was a terrible mistake and it was in perfect condition.
I have a friend that got that mower new carb got clogged up in a few months , yep it is cheap plastic junk it is easy to clean I bought a new carb they are not expensive I will just change them out when it gets clogged up so I always have one ready for the next time
Good job Jim! Not a big fan of those all/almost all, lol plastic carburetors! Have a Husqvarna and a Troy-bilt ( both self-propelled) here to repair! Only run 90 & 93 octane non-ethonal gas in all my stuff. You just can't convince some people. 🙄🤔🤣
Hey Jim, I learned, about 15 years ago, what ethanol does to small engines after pulling off a swollen gummed up feed hose that filled the carb with crap. I have not used ethanol fuel in any equipment since then!
Hey Jim I have a question on my 12hp Briggs I’ll be mowing an it’s really hot it’ll act like it’s running out of gas and shut off wait for a few minutes if starts right up and sometimes it runs fine but sometimes it runs a little while and does it again what do you think causes that could the fuel filter be suspect
Ethanol absorbs, moisture right out of the air and it condenses into water either in your gas tank or your gas can especially if your gas is not sealed most all cars today have sealed gas tanks. You’ll notice that if you leave your cap loose, your check engine light will come on. That’s why it doesn’t seem to affect our cars that much and another thing that helps is constantly driving our cars and using the fuel in the tank when my truck for the winter, I fill it with premium with no ethanol
