How does "Chargers accounted for almost half of all Valiant production" not long after their introduction equate to " 2 door coupes just didn't sell"? Australia's car industry peaked for a short time, dying off with competition from cheaper to buy and run imported cars and oil "crisis" scares. Our companies had less money and streamlined production, cutting models that had more specific markets- families dont buy coupes. Had our population been double at the time, we even would have had convertible versions.

I think they were always very cool just that Australia was too small of a market to make coupes viable. Like we never saw an Aussie convertible. Being a ford bloke I would love to have seen a 2 Door XRGT.

@@rossbrumby1957 some coupes sold well initially after introduction. The last Monaro did too. But sales quickly dropped off. It's pretty obvious, if coupes had been strong sellers they wouldn't have stopped making them. Even the current Mustang, after decent sales numbers initially, has dropped off considerably.

this is true in a way.. but so many great cars here are 4 doors so thats my ignorance coming out from my short time here

@@RossReviewsau the late 60’s and early 70’s had the Holden Monaro and falcon coupes. Through the mid 70’s we’re Holden Torana coupes falcon coupes. In my opinion, (there would be massive arguments) however I would say Brock in his A9x Torana (coupe) was the pinnacle of that era and possibly be THE halo car today ( I’d suggest $1.5m for an original A9x. Ford guys would argue the late 60’s to 70 ford HO’s (phase 2) is the Halo car.

@@RossReviewsau 100% they don’t want things to last like they used to do you can go and buy another another or spend money on repairs seeing it with nearly everything these days sadly

A former work mate of mine owned an AU with the Intech SOHC ...the dad to the Barra and it had 578,000 kms on it the last time I asked him .. He was averaging about 150 kms a day while he had it on the road . The body was gone , the BTR was on it's last legs so he scrapped it a while back .. The SOHC was also built to last . Mine only has a bit over 200,000 kms because I have two other cars that get driven more but the only even remotely engine issue with mine is an inlet manifold gasket . The plugs believe it or not are still totally original and she kicks over with no hesitation every single time .. Turn off the Economy button and give her a squeeze and she gets to illegal plenty fast enough for me.. My FG XR6 is that much better ,, Another surprising thing is that the Barra powered XR6 is amazingly economical on a long trip .. I can get around 8.0 l per 100 km or about 33 mpg on a fairly standard drive if you don't have long stops at roadworks / city driving ...Done a daily reset a few times now to prove it .. Barra and SOHC are both bloody incredibly reliable ....

They got hellcats and other American muscle cars haha, I think they're fine with not having this haha. These don't compare to those beasts but a nice car nonetheless

@@SkiRacingOz lo really? Fpv aren't great handlers either, all they can do is go fast in a straight line too and like I said they have other American muscle cars. How about the c8 corvette? Destroys the outdated barra in all ways, straight line, around a track, anywhere. They don't need barras there lol

@@94toxic94 fair point, FPVs are kinda like boats, still better than us muscle around a track but HSV cars are weapons around the track and can still be used for practical things while having incredible performance.a corvette on the other hand, granted it’s the faster car but in my opinion, not the better car

@@SkiRacingOz I do agree hsv's do handle pretty well man, the vf's did a really good job. I just think barras are a little overrated and there's much better options especially over in Canada and the US but that's just my opinion. Still give credit to the barra for what it is, it was an amazing engine when they were producing it still.

Yep, they changed it because too many people were writing themselves off. There used to be a couple of open speed roads here in WA as well, the road out to seabird was a black stripe

Tyres. Get some decent rubber. For cold or wet roads: Michelin Pilot Sport 4. For warmer weather and light trackwork, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Agree with Nor Dic. When I bought my XR6 Turbo it had really cheap tyres and used to break traction all the time. When I got better tyres there was a big improvement.

@@mandoleenebando429 yea mine supposedly only has 240 at the rears and when you take off in the dry when it gets to about 60 to 70 ks it starts spinning the wheels and always steps to the left and i have michelin pilot sport 4s on it completely useless on a wet road you have to drive it like a granny.

@@RossReviewsau That's what they normally do with stock springs after valve floating because they pump the lifters up and hold the valves from seating properly. Just came to mind was all haha
