He's playing great, but don't get too excited yet, he's taking a lot of hits after he throws and he could get injured again- if he wants a chance at a career like Brady he has to stop taking so many hits.
Last year, after I saw Brock in the preseason games and after week two when Jimmy had to fill in for Trey I jokingly said to my best friend "Somewhere this year Jimmy G will get hurt and then Purdy has to take over the Team and will lead us to the Super Bowl." It was meant as a joke although I liked what I saw in preseason. Man, I love Brock for what a humble guy he is and how he plays. He has heart and passion and is a hard worker. And I can't believe how lucky the 49ers were that he was so underrated by all the scouts. Love to all fellow Niners Fans out there from Germany.
If he didn't get hurt in Philly, I actually felt he could've done it last year. The 49ers didn't "get a fair shot" in that game as a result, and the Eagles took it, but I think they game would've turned out differently had Brock played the whole game.
@@ShaunHensley When Jimmy got hurt in that game I was sitting in front of the TV and was thinking to myself "You should have kept your moth shut." I hoped it would not end in a disaster. Especially after the quick touchdown from Miami.
@@ThorstenDrews I saw so much I liked in Brock from day 1. Initially it was his willingness to step up into a hit while throwing dimes and his confidence to throw a ball away on a busted play and to work the clock like a 90s vet. Since then he’s added the ability to look off defenders, throw before his receivers finish their cut, layer passes just out of the reach of linebackers and place the ball where only his man can touch it. He’s legit, he’ll never be worse than he is now, no reason to predict regression. Give him a line.
Idk what happened, but around the start of Purdy's junior year, there were many mock drafts predicting him as a mid 1st to high 2nd round pick. After his senior season, no one wanted him. I watched Purdy play vs OU and several other good college teams and firmly believed that he was going to make it in the NFL. I even took him in the 5th round of my online mock draft and have the screen shot to prove it!
Until we win the superbowl I want him to be underrated! I want him called a system QB that he’s just a non shooting PG. We play so much better as underdogs
No we don't want that. It's more gratifying when only you're family close friends and of course you're self believe. You been the same person. All this time.
The TD throw to Aiyuk was a play maybe 3 other qbs would have made. Purdy hit his 3rd option with a perfectly thrown ball without a second of hesitation. He’s becoming undeniable to the haters and I’m loving every second of it 🍿.
The pass blocking on the right side of the line, particularly Colton McKivitz was horrible on this play and the Seattle defender just breezed past him and almost got to Purdy again. 49ers need to shore up this problem on the O line against Philly and other good DE's. Thats my biggest concern of the 49ers.
What is unbelievable is how Brock runs a pretty simple college offense & learns the nuances of Kyle's offense so well that he can execute it. Just amazing quarterbacking.
the biggest thing was 4 years of having to read the field quickly while quite often under pressure. Also his willingness to be "the guy" , taking constructive criticism/coaching (i assume), and seemingly being an above average student of the game..... his mistakes have been primarily new mistakes and haven't seen straight up repeats ...always improvements.
right? that was something i noticed in the first game . . . he came into Shannahans system, in the middle of that dolphins game . . . and din't get a single offsides or illegal motion or illegal man down field call. Not one, not one of those calls for the entire season . . . I am not joking, i went back and looked it all up. WE also weren't burning time outs to prevent false starts . . . that was what got me. Not just his ability to throw and command but . . . complete understanding straight out the gate . . . he "knew is assignment" (sorry for saying that but lol, it works here)
For someone the media and "experts" said he has a weak arm...kind weird that he is leading the league in completions of passes over 20yrds. Better than Tua and Patrick btw
I'm from Mn but I have been watching the 49er's since mid season last year when Purdy stepped in. I was watching when he got injured and followed as much as I could the medical and surgery reports. At the beginning of this season I told a buddy of mine that the 49er's are going all the way! This team is so much fun to watch!
Brock's gonna play with a grudge against Philly. I can see this game being the one where he absolutely goes off and shuts up all the Brock haters. Brock Purdy has shown he has something special since he came in for jimmy g against Miami. Week after week he shows everyone how talented he is and week after week all these "experts" keep hatin on him. Let the Philly game shut them up. 13 is the real deal. Let's go Niners!
And isn’t it ironic with his first start against the bucs last year he literally was made than Last week against the bucs he has come full circle in a way perfect but it’s the start of the rest of his rise #inpurdywetrust
@@augiegonzalez1082 Exactly! This is only the start of this man's career. He's played a little over one full season of football in the NFL and he is being critiqued by these football analysts as though he is a 7th year vet. The dude is still learning the game at the NFL level. He plays so exceptional every week so when he has a bad game or forces a bad decision and throws a pick everyone is quick to point at that as proof that BCB ain't got it. Oh I'm sorry, he didn't finish the game a QBR over 115? YEP HE'S TRASH! TOLD YOU SOOO! Even with those "bad games" he's still in the top 5 for many QB statistics. Anyway. Those who hate will hate but eventually they will be forced to eat their words. 🤜
@@toeverypredatoryouaremyprey if you weren’t there for the pre season or that Miami Dolphins game than that’s there lost I became a witness when he took GARRAPOLO and three plays in. I was like wait a min Just because I’m a 49ers fan makes it cool but u watch football and not since Brady and manning will we get another rivalry outta this crop of qbs Mr Irrelevant makes it much needed and he backs it up
Brock answered everything we questioned with Jimmy G and Trey.....Jimmy wouldn't pull the trigger and take some calculated risks beyond 15 yards....Trey could not read defenses and go trough his progressions.
Younger brother. Never recruited by Iowa State...which I thought was odd but he has struggled his first couple years so maybe the staff saw something or maybe he simply wanted to take a different path and proactively told ISU no interest.
As we get further into the season it'll be apparent that the concussion played a major role in his bad stretch. The CLV game was a legitimate struggle against an elite D. He played well at MIN until the concussion then unraveled. He wasn't himself just 6 days later against CIN. The proof is that after the bye he came back healthy and looking like an MVP again.
This throw was nothing like the cross body back across the field throw. This just the man dropping a dime cause he knows he can and he believes in his receivers!!
I go back to the Montana and Young era. Apart from those two quarterbacks and how accurate and fearless they were. Troy Aikman comes to mind as far as accuracy and fearles. Those three quarterbacks have written their names in the history of football so I'm thinking that once Kyle really really really turns Brock loose then we will see a level of play not seen since those qb's that I noted here. I'm feeling a dynasty coming together. 9rs baby 💪🤨👍
I knew there was an open receiver downfield when I saw Brock wind up to throw it deep. And it feels so good to not really have any uneasiness when goes for the deep pass. Hope he has a great game at Philly. GO NINERS!!!!!!
That was one of the best throws ever last night. Reminds me of playing madden, and Ayuik right he like the last person on that play you throw it to because that receiver on that route is the most covered.
He might not be vocal about it now but he’s telling Kyle with his decisions that we need to rip it and rip it to aiyuk more. Kyle needs to the governor off himself and just stay aggressive especially with how the defense is playing they can afford to take more chances
He is.... you can already see it if you pay attention. You can't be a gunslinger all the time tho its not how it works. There has to be a bit of back and fourth with it.
Wait until it's contract time! They're are at least 25 other teams that would love to have Purdy as their starter. Brock may never come out and say it, but it's basically going to be like, "OK, Kyle, who's going to replace me? 38 year old (by then) Kirk Cousins and his bad Achilles? Aaron Rogers at 42, bad Achilles?" This team would literally mutiny if they ever even thought about replacing Purdy. This means that Kyle is going to have to learn to work and live with Purdy and his style of play.
A lot of credit needs to go to BA. He's right where he's supposed to be when the ball reaches him. He can get open and he's fast. If the niners ever even think about trading him, so help me God...............Purdy is amazing and these are intensely jubilant times to be a niners fan.......
Remember how he took over as a third string QB and led his team on an undefeated run to the NFC championship game where he got his elbow snapped like a chicken wing and had to have it surgically repaired and everyone was wondering if he would ever be the same? I do.
He's not the same. He's better. His arm is clearly stronger. Often happens with younger players. After injury, they really start working out the area that was injured and come back better.
Looked like brock threw as soon as the deep safety started to commit to Kittles. He's said on other interviews he trys to make the safety commit then throw opposite, which means he's looking long first. Very un Jimmy like👍
2:18 TE #89 Charlie Woerner was wide open on the 20 YD line for a 10 YD gain but Purdy wasn't going to settle for a check down. He's always looking for the big play.
Brock is the best quarterback I’ve seen since Steve young. I never seen someone like him that throws the different levels to get it over the defenders. His layers are really great. All the other quarterbacks players drop half the balls but Brock throws a really catchable ball.
Lets just say it out loud...the rest of the league and their fans arent ready for Brock Purdy. He will never get the credit he is due...his accuracy is insane, and he reads defenses better than most veteran QBs.
yeah Kyle looked pumped up & shouted 'let's go!' ETA - be interesting to see though, was his jaw slack, was he scowling, was he shaking his head, lol - ??
Purdy’s superpowers are his mind and his courage. First you don’t believe but Brock does it again and again until you have no choice but believe what your eyes see.
Shannon had a bunch of QB, none ever exceeded expectations, he had Jimmy G, and Trey Lance, with the same roster both of them never had this kind of success. So is Purdy a system QB or is Purdy really that good? They said Montana was a system QB as was Steve Young. But it takes a special QB to excel with their respective talented roster.
Too me, it’s all about the o-line. If they do their thing, then Purdy can do his. The defense plays better when playing loose vs a team playing catch up. What troubles me, is that the losses were close. They need a hard win to prove their caliber. Maybe it will happen vs Philly. Go Niners!! SF
@@gunner-qf9eh yes true I'm a Niner fan. I was just saying this because we needed a sense of urgency. We're you like waiting til this week to go back and comment on this?
I call 🧢 on your statement at the 2:21 mark, Brad. Brock didn't layer that ball between 3 defenders, he layered it in between 4 defenders. That's 4 whole birds Brock cooked, and I'm here to pop my $&#+! 😂 #himothy
I feel like Brock is sort of like Steph Curry of the NBA. Steve Kerr will watch Steph dribble, spin, and take some crazy shot and make it. Kerr is thinking, "Nooooooo!" Until it goes in. Almost no one should take that shot, but Steph can because he makes it so consistently. Steph will have his bad games, but he is the best shooter of all time. Brock will have his bad games and throws, but he will make a lot of throws most guys shouldn't even attempt.
What i see on that play is Kyle needs to get Moore in at RT cuz Mckivitz is a bum. Purdy is a gun slinger but he also didnt have time to wait for #89 to release underneath like Kyle wanted since Mckivitz got destroyed so he chose to throw it to Aiyuk
That throw to Aiyuk looked a lot like the one Steve Young through to Terrell Owens. The “redemption catch“. I’ve seen great quarterbacks make that very similar throw. I think Kyle Shanahan is too conservative. You can’t wait until everyone’s perfectly open and just always take the safe 12 yard little pass. Sometimes you just have to be a threat to do something like Brock Purdy does.
Yes. That's probably why Shanahan started looking for another quarterback. Lance was the next guy he picked. Lance unfortunately didn't get to play much college football. Purdy played quite a bit of college level football and it looks like he can make that leap from college to the NFL. So many people can't do it. Purdy caught on quickly.
