Taking a look at how the 49ers cut the Giants down to size. whiteoakpastures.com/jd49 coupon code: JD49 / jonnydels / japodcasthost paypal.me/Jonn... www.patreon.co...
Jimmy would have been gone either way… but you’re right, Brock is the real deal. The NFL is clearly full of big egos and tons of pressure on those egos to succeed, so the administration (coaching and F/O) could have easily been stubborn and doubled down on their shiny first round draft quarterback. I’m also glad ownership has their back and showed it by extending them last week.
I'll be honest, I barely understand how football plays actually work, but the way you describe them and the videos in general are super chill so I love watching them anyway.
Your breakdowns are top-notch - 100%. I've been getting recommendations to watch other channels. I watch for about a min. and I'm like, nah, I'll wait for Jonnydel's breakdown. No one else compares.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like Purdy is way ahead of where his NFL experience says he should be. An absolute steal in the last pick of the draft. Also, so happy to get stuff out of Kinlaw on D. Great coverage as always!
Every time I watched the 49ers with Jimmy Garoppolo as QB, I just always felt like something was missing at that position. I'm not saying Garoppolo is a bad QB because overall he isn't. When I watch Brock Purdy at QB, I am amazed at the level of confidence he has. Watching your breakdown of the game really helps me understand exactly what's going on that I may not have seen live during the game.
What really sucks is Daniel Jones made more money in this game than Brock will make all year. If there was ever a player who deserves big time $ under the table it’s Brock :)
@@soulysephirothit's not about being perfect. It's about keep elevating your game each game and year. Jimmy 2022 was the Jimmy from 2017 and it's showing on the raiders. He's slightly above average
@@ecs2ecs46 in a way, it sucks the biggest fattest and longest for now. But if you look at it on the bright side there are also many good things. 1.) Purdy’s 870,000 salary is not chump change, and still places him pretty high among wages overall. 2.)BCBs salary allows the 49ers to afford the rest of the roster that is by far most elite roster at every position (don’t care what the media has to say about the cowboys eagles or dolphins). 3) purdy has a huge possible record breaking pay day waiting for him coming his way. I expect and encourage him to demand that contract after this season. Sorry if aiyuk, or whatever other player due up for a new contract has to take a lower salary than they expected BcB has priority whith how he has performed so far
Purdy keeps getting better. The ceiling is not yet in sight. There are at least a half dozen reads and deliveries in this excellent breakdown that are truly elite. Everybody including the line gets to elevate their play.
One of the few channels that I get excited for when I see a new video on 49ers. Like I’ll rewatch it or pause if I get interrupted lol Good work as always
Seems like many of the talking heads, even the smart ones, were overly focused on the low ADOT, but…85% blitz rate means you should be getting rid of it.
Yeah, last Friday was full of chuckleheads saying "Brock isn't good, he just threw a bunch of screens!" And I'm like, do you guys even understand football? You're not going to throw bombs all game with the other team blitzing 85% of the time. Screens are exactly what you're supposed to throw. I feel like Purdy will never get the respect he deserves in the general sports media because of where he was drafted. So many people form opinions on a player based on where they're drafted and never relent off those opinions no matter the evidence. Oh well, gives Purdy the "prove the doubters wrong" motivation all season. Maybe all career.
I watch a lot of film reviews of the 49ers and I have to say you are the best by far!!! Some talk too much, pause the film for too long, they don't break down the plays, etc
2 things i look forward to is 49ers football and jonnydel's breakdown. I was wondering what's up with bosa he's not getting any sacks but the double and triple teams and still getting pressure is impressive.
Brock Purdy is playing at such a high level it is insane. It is so much fun to watch my Niners play football! The media dismisses and disses Mr Relevant, but in reality they just don’t want to admit he is that good. I don’t what anyone says, Brock Purdy is top tier QB and he hasn’t even reached his ceiling! Discredit his playmaking skills and call him "dink and dunk" all you want, but I can guarantee that scouts are rethinking their assessment and will be looking for the next Purdy in the draft only to find out that Niners got a gem that the other teams missed out on! Niners4Life and I’ve been a fan since 81 so I’ve been through the Dynasty era and dark ages and now we’re back with a vengeance! Thanks for this great breakdown video of what the media is saying was Purdy’s "worst game"! I can’t wait to see his best, if that’s the case! Great times Faithful!!!
As on point as the Offense was in this game, I made a comment on another channel about something Chad Johnson said in his podcast, he said that the 49ers were disrespecting the Giants passing game by playing man coverage almost the entire game. He's right! My take on it was the inexplicable $160M contract to Jones, yeah I'm still trying to figure that one out. But the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the reason for Wilk's decision to play man on man was because of the confidence he has in the 49er D-line to completely disrupt the timing of the passing game. The addition of Hargrave and the play of Kinlaw and Jackson with Bosa makes for a lethal combination of threats. I bet we see more of this type of defense in the Cowboys game in 2 weeks.
It was all about forcing the issue and lanes on Daniel Jones. They were going to disrupt the lanes he had and not give him ways to get out and hurt you with his legs.
Well Keyshawn also pointed out it's disrespectful to the WR group to play man coverage w/ a single high safety. Since Chad Johnson is also a WR, I'm guessing that's what he meant.
@jonnydel I went to this game last Thursday, and although it’s hard to pick up the Xs and Ys live in person and still needed to watch your weekly analisys, one thing was obvious, and that is that the feeling and overall energy this season feels different, I would say special. I mentioned it before in the only comment I ever posted on any of your videos, but it would be cool if you could experience it for yourself as a media member to relay to the media. I know you replied that you live out of state, but it would benefit the fanbase if more people like you had full media access passes to replace some of the clowns that currently cover the team full time (grant cohn, specifically, but also a few others).
@@jonnydel completely understand and respect that my guy. Just wanted to express some of my wishful thinking and also shoot you some very well deserved props 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Bang bang up job as usual, Jonny. Nice to see a little more defense in this week's edition, too. Once upon a time you were going to do a video for each, no? With all the focus on breaking down QBs these days, might be some additional weekly views available there. Purdy might be developing into one of the best back shoulder throwers we've ever seen. It's a little ironic that he plays for his idol Marino's greatest rival, and that he himself is more similar in skillset to Montana than Marino. But those back shoulder targets are all Marino... just things of beauty, works of art. I have a feeling we're going to need a CB who can cover Tyreek if we have true Super Bowl aspirations this year.
I may have bitten off more than I could chew in wanting to get out multiple videos a week. The time crunch is just tough to manage. Especially cause i was traveling across country and back for my nieces wedding
@@jonnydel Totally understand. Was just thinking it might put some money in your pocket to double your views weekly. You provide a fully scripted and edited tape review. Not everyone does that. Jack Hammer stumbles and mumbles through his, which are all delivered impromptu. He's a good analyst but a horrible presenter, yet it only costs him an hour out of his week. Is there perhaps a less labor-intensive way to deliver the review?
@pendragon8522 maybe, and yes it would be some more coin but I don't do this full-time. I have a full-time job and 3 kids, lol. The biggest thing I want to do is keep the channel integrity by staying in my lane for how the production value is. I've been doing some podcasts where I can talk about the film ive watched on our opponent and have been collaborating with opposing teams content creators but don't really have the time to do the full cut up. I have done that for the playoffs but can really only keep that pace for a month as it usually means about 5 hours of sleep a night
@@jonnydel That's a lot on your plate. I know the feeling man. And I have enough experience with video editing to know how time-consuming the process is. Thank you for everything you do. Your videos are as smooth as silk and that is one of their more attractive features. Kudos, brother. I'm so happy you do this, and even more so that you're still slogging through the trenches during what might be an historic season... with an historic young QB. See you on the other side of the Cards!
Great work on this one. I feel even better about the victory following your insight. BTW, I noticed a lot of low snaps by Brendal in the shot gun. Was that a result of the constant blitzing by Martindale???
I would also like to see one suggested improvement that you see, e.g. I saw a few plays where Debo just jogged through his pattern as he knew he wasn't primary on the play.
Cool stuff on the Deebo/Purdy TD pass at 2:31. It's awesome to see them attack Jackson after seeing him play the slant too aggressively. He probably thought he was pretty cool with that near pick earlier, and then got humbled here for being too aggressive.
Watching the 49er receivers gain yards after the catch is something you cannot overstate. In this game, the 49ers had more YAC than the Giants had total yards (210 v 150). That's embarrassing for an offense.
Seems to me the only knocks on Purdy are his draft status and arm strength. No QB in the league makes perfectly accurate throws every drop back. Talking heads call him a game manager, and yes, he manages the game, but he does so while making big time throws too, and adds out of structure plays. Jimmy was a game manager and our offense never looked this good. Brock elevates this team, period. He's legit, and I don't care what the talking heads say.
Jonnydel - what an incredible breakdown of both sides of the ball!! I'm just in amazement how well you analyze the plays each and every game. In your opinion, which do you feel is Brock's best strength - his accuracy or his decision making? Thanks again for another awesome video!!
@@pendragon8522 Im not sure how good Tua really is tbh. I think the way he's playing now is probably a little more Mike McDaniel than Tua's actual talent. I think Tua is good but I think Brock is better at seeing the field overall. In Tua's first couple years before MM, he had so many bad throws, now it seems with MM calling the shots, all the WRs are wide open and most good QBs can make those throws. I do think Tua is pretty accurate but I don't know about his overall vision when he's throwing to a receiver in traffic.
@@bobbymira8234 I didn't watch tape of Tua prior to this season so can't comment on the past. But I can say that this season he has been throwing with Purdy-like anticipation, throwing on cuts. That is the only comparison I'm making here, nor am I rating the quality of the two. The video--this year anyways--supports this one similarity. If you'd like to inquire further, look up JT McAllister's reviews of Tua.
@@pendragon8522 Tua's been great this year for sure. I'm not sure who is better overall yet, but I would have to say Purdy in terms of overall play. Only knock I have on Brock is his slower delivery. Tua gets that ball out quick but Purdy seems to wind up all the time.
@17:47 Bad OCs are adding that wing TE in to help in pass pro, but it is stupid. With that alignment the LT can’t get any width and Bosa ends up being able to run through the chest of the smaller guy. They need the TE to be wider and come back towards the formation in a crack block to knock Bosa off the edge and into the protected LT who has anchored against the bull rush. Take away speed and power. This happens to Bosa often, there are no real answers without a spin move, which he doesn’t use. This alignment sucks and we won’t see good teams like the Eagles use it.
I felt like it wasn't part of the overall narrative of how we won. Some of it, I didn't think there was a ton there of concern. NY blitzed like crazy and made those throws tough, we made them pay throughout the game.
When Deebo knows he isn’t getting the ball he half-asses the whole play. Watch him lazy jog his routes when he’s not an option - especially his motions.
Something else Ive noticed this year with 49ers is Brock isnt necessary a mobile QB and teams dont respect him as such. I think if he worked on exploiting that it would open up the 49ers to getting some gimme 1st downs with Brock simply just running north and south once the receivers/line backers have vacated the space. Pair that with the teams seemingly to all game plan to hit Brock with all different types of pressures to make him scramble or get him off his game and it only helps his game.
It's a Ying yang balance thing. What I love about Purdy is that he'll exhaust a play before taking off. I'd rather that than he tale off too early when a pass was there to be made
15:48 49ers need to have thee ole hook & ladder or shovel pass back to McCaffrey on this play. Would have been an automatic touchdown. I know its risky in general but when the 49ers playmakers have such good hands its worth the risk and adds a little more pizazz to each play.
It seems like this year, with Purdy now firmly established as the starter, that Shanahan is opening up the playbook a bit. From last season, we could clearly see that Purdy was capable of doing all the same things that Garoppolo could do well. Now, it seems like Shanahan is starting to explore what else Purdy can do outside of the Garoppolo envelope (deeper passes, more passes outside the numbers, etc.) There will be the stumbles that come with pushing the envelope a bit, but each additional area of the field that Purdy shows he can hit is just one more space defenses have to scramble to cover - and it's already hard enough to contain our guys.
I think the bigger thing is connecting on some of those throws. We ran all this stuff and for one reason or another would connect. It'd be a Jimmy miss or a poor route by the receiver, it seems things are coming together this year.
I bet of all of the Brock Purdy haters out there, or even just the people saying “he’s just okay”.. I’ll bet that Wink Martindale is not one of them. I’ll bet he said throughout the game, “damn, this kid is good.”
Track stars everywhere and McDaniels is super aggressive. Kyle wants to bludgeon everyone to death and McDaniels wants to be in the endzone before you can turn around
@jonnydel yeah I totally agree. They seem to score TDs from anywhere on the field where we almost never score from our own territory. Or even outside the redzone.
Was this flashy like the cowboys, no. Did we overwhelmingly beat the Giants, yes. Again, The giants had to take lots of risks and play perfect; The 49ers needed to play consistent and not over stretch themselves. Could we have scored more, yeah; but that's the fun part. This is a slow team that is still gelling together. Also, we didn't have Aiyuk and that showed up, otherwise this might be like the denver game, except Donald is put in earlier.
Arm strength is overrated. Get a QB with good vision and a fast CPU and surround him with talented players who can get lots of YAC. When you have someone like Kyle Shanahan, that's a good recipe for winning. Meanwhile, a lot of QBs with strong arms come out of college and just can never adjust to the speed in the NFL where everyone is better and everything is faster.
You really should be getting as much attention as JT O'Sullivan with these. I watch his videos but he doesn't understand any of our concepts which makes it annoying to watch
