McKivitz played the first 3 and a half drives against TJ Watt, won't say perfectly, but very well. NOTICE: He was not a factor in he first 20 points. We've seen TJ Watt Destroy teams from the Get-go, McKivitz deserves Kudos for that. After the 3 and half drives, the fourth TJ beats him and gets a sack (& fumble) the ends up becoming a 9ers field goal. 49ers LEAD 20-0. I watched the game again, pretty much watching him against Watt and he stopped Watt, those 1st 3 drives, all except the 4th down play 2 Kittle, but the ball was already out, so really hard 2 say he "blew" it. Later on, I'm guessing he got some FATIGUE going, first game starting all game. He'll improve. But , while Watt's plays would have made a difference in a tight game, everyone else played a well-executed plan, and Watt's contributions at that point were of little difference. Most of the plays, especially the big ones, ran AWAY from Watt, so it's not like the 9ers didn't see the threat. The "excellent" block from Brendel the center, which U noted on the 65 yard Touchdown, not only did Brendel turn his hips & block that linebacker, he shielded off TJ Watt, so he couldn't b in the play. Appreciate the breakdown.

IMHO I think in pass pro sometimes he has this slight "fundamental flaw" in which he allows for a moment that his center of gravity pass his heels so he looses hip angle integrity and, if the engagement happens, he will be beaten by any decent rusher in the NFL. At 11:32 you can see this perfectly. His trunk is vertical, his butt far behind... This is just week 1. He will fix this and then this OL will make history. Hopefully the kid's mind will keep on resisting both the haters that are praying to all their gods for him to have a 5 INT game but also the other camp that assures he is the next TB#12.
@timheaney6690
@timheaney6690 Год назад
I DON'T disagree on the early anointing of him as the next #TB12. Let's forget that convo. That years & years of excellence. I simply look at the situations he's been in & how did he perform. which has been excellent during "0" blitzes, very heavy rushes, or TJ Watt dropping into coverage (like he's done B4 tAND gotten INTs), and Brock simply moves on, doesn't make the "young QB" mistake. McKivitz seems like he will learn. After getting CUT, becuz he didn't aggressively approach learning, growing, changing, I think he'll adjust. Will it B in time? Who knows...BUT certainly ROOTING 4 Him, GO NINERS@@nunoprazeres1173

Watt had multiple sack(s) and ff(s), are you stupid..?
@johnkon2810
@johnkon2810 Год назад
Give McKivitz a little time. He must be doing something right for the coaching staff to like him & we would be idiots not to trust them. Note: Kyle admitted he could have done more to help him but, didn't. By week 6, we'll see the whole offensive line improve & I believe McKivitz will definitely improve as well. Let's not forget... it was his first start & he went up against a top 3 edge pass rusher in any given game or year (when healthy). Last year it took until week 6 for our 3 new interior OL starters to gel. This year, its only one new player on the OL & they will be playing together (signed) for the next 3 years.

Hi! I am from Portugal and I just love the game and came across the gem that is your analysis! My thing around football is becoming more and more about OL so this video made my week! Thanks! Keep'em coming! One little note. On the first play, all the strong side D line shoot the inside gap (rewind and just look at their first step) and this IMHO made things much easier for an outside zone scheme perspective. Then, as you pointed very well, the crack block from the WR on #55 was pure poetry. The Center goes second level but finds no color and does what he should chasing the LB trying to jam. Beautiful!!!

As a Steelers fan, I'm one play in and I'm already pissed. Why is Highsmith (56) taking a step inside? Honestly, Juscyk (however tf you spell his name--44) is already motioning out and his first step is out; Highsmith still steps in, allowing himself to be blocked. What is he reading that would make him think that's a good idea? Secondly, why is Holecomb (55) allowing himself to be blocked by a WR? Where do you get this footage? I love it.
@harrymills2770
@harrymills2770 Год назад
Maybe he was just honoring his gap assignment and the only mistake was either the LB the WR took out or the DB who didn't crash the line when the WR went out to block the LB.

@@harrymills2770 ahh, you might be right. Looks like the DB was supposed to be setting the edge. Terrible defensive call. How is a DB supposed to take on Williams/Kittle/Juszczyk (I had to look up how to spell his name) Also a terrible angle from 50 (I think that's Roberts)
