It felt like the whole team was off, even before the injuries. They just seemed so out of sync the whole game and penalties plagued us more than usual.

This is the perennial frustration of being a 49er's fan. They are so good, the only time they lose is when they fail to execute. Key players making obvious mistakes, lack of attention, negligent penalties; everything that pisses coaches off. Not that coaches are immune either. Shanahan is capable of terrible lapses in judgement (Trey Lance).

That deep pass over the middle was a TD. BA was thinking about running instead of just catching the damn ball.

I really wanted you to look at the play on the last drive, where BA gets a huge chunk play to put us into field goal range. When BA catches it, George kittle just stands there and watches If he blocks the safety, it is a WAY bigger play. Maybe a td. Lack of effort there with 40 seconds left just changed the game. :(

Always glad to watch your tape breakdown. Everything is fine with the 9ers interns of play calling the 9ers just played a really sloppy game that's all. Purdy is still a top 5-8 QB and this team is still great. They just needed a wake up call to show them that they are still human

This breakdown reminds me of the one on the Chiefs game from last year. Where it was more about poor execution. And we all know what happened after that Kansas game.

Gotta think the niners were just resting on their laurels after blowing out the cowboys. They did this in past years as well (falcons game in 2019). I hope this is a wake up call and they dial it in because after Minnesota the schedule gets tougher.

Great insight...a lot of things that we can fix going forward..Browns get credit..our guys perhaps were just not as amped up ...tired w travel, etc..may be may be not but feels like we can correct a lot of what happened and come strong vs Minny...

Great video as always Jonnydel. I tend to think of this loss happened because of 3 things: good D by the Browns, wet ball, and playing on the road. Had it been a dry game at Levis, I think the outcome is way different. The Browns (along with their good defense) needed a lot of luck to beat us - 2 missed FGs, the rain screwing up our passes and timing, and a couple of iffy calls by the refs. That said, I think a lot of the poor execution was a combo of the Browns really living in the backfield and the Niners just not being focused. You could argue the Browns rattled Purdy in 2nd quarter which may have caused him to lose his focus? Not sure. Purdy obviously not dialed in all the way and maybe he was taking too many hits and even tho it stopped raining later, it was probably still in his head that he was gonna take a pounding everytime he dropped back. I think I saw somewhere that he was pressured on 47% of his dropbacks, which obviously is bad O line play.

It ain't pretty but we gotta take the bad with the good😅 Crazy how if the o-line was even a teeny bit better, we could've scraped a W. But team is still drunk from the win over Dallas. On the blown up screen to CMC, look how Garrett absolutely manhandles Trent. That is some freakish strength.

its execution. example) ray ray was lost on where to line up, mason didnt understand he needed to cover the extra man coming at brock. i think its mainly bc deebo and CMC are in these positions usually. everyone needs to know these play calls. onto the next

Great video, as always, but I don't even know why I watched it! It just put me in such a bad mood lol.

I get why you're only highlighting the missed plays by the 49ers -- because this is a 49ers channel -- but the Browns were also missing huge chunk / TD plays on the otherside with poorly timed penalties and execution problems. Off the top of my head, Njoku had a perfectly timed screen that went for a TD called back on a hold that, whether it should have been called or not, had little to no impact on the play. Later, Amari Cooper lined up in the slot literally made the manned up corner fall down off the line. He was wide open for what would have been a touchdown or a long gain into the red zone. Instead, PJ Walker never even looked at him and threw into double coverage. To say, "this game could have easily been 21-0" because every offensive play wasn't executed perfectly by the Niners' offense is a bit of a stretch and is something that can only be said by someone who is strictly focusing on what the Niners did/did not do in the game. Jim Schwartz's defensive mentality is to be aggressive and make the offense be perfect and execute under pressure. That means when you study game film 4 days later in the comfort of your livingroom, you might see some openings that were missed. But that's the whole point. Don't sit back Vic Fangio style, try to just take away big plays and let the offense kill you underneath. Take away the easy stuff and force an offense to execute perfectly with pressure in their grill. Much easier to do on a computer monitor than on the field with Myles Garrett and Za'Darius Smith in your face. From a Browns perspective, this game could've gotten out of hand in our favor had our third string QB not played like a third string QB. Good luck the rest of the way. You guys have a helluva team.

The browns defense is the 49ers problem

Still not sure about the Mason missed pass protection. If he is supposed to cover the free rush, and the line is moving to the left, why would he be lined up to the left also? Is it typical for RB's to go across the line like that?

Too many penalties, too much pressure in Purdy's face, too many missed opportunities, and a couple bad calls from the refs = A loss. Niners will bounce back, great video once again 💯

Maybe you could talk about how Jim Schwartz has 9 wins over Shanny? Would be interesting to hear why you think that is

Do the players review the film with the coaches and do think they see the same detail mistakes? Or, only the coaches review the film and just the coaches talk to the players about missed assignments? How do they correct the mistakes that you (Jonnydel) point out?

So what about the Browns missed opportunities? The 2 tds called back? Did you see some of the wide open guys walker missed? The browns d line has the best pass rush win rate in the league, so when they get pressure that way it isnt a missed opportunity for the 49ers, its a play the browns made. Any nfl game can look like it couldve been a blowout if you only focus on what couldve happened if offensive plays were executed perfectly and the defenders didnt make plays, pressure the qb, etc.

I think Purdy was more concerned about having his legs broken if he completed too many passes.

In a way, this breakdown was reassuring. The quick take post game was Brock played badly in the rain and CLE defense was too good. Here, it seems like the entire offense made. A bunch of stupid mistakes which weren’t forced by the defense but just bad execution.

With all the free runners we had coming off the right side of the line is it poor recognition by purdy, poor line play, or bad play calling?

Can you please explain why Shanny would throw it with the lead and 3 minutes left? I get that Mason missed the block, but how do you justify that play call? RUN THE ROCK!

With all that went wrong in this game for the Niners, they had an opportunity to win it so I'm sure they aren't ready to hit the panic button.

The Browns executed better and deserved to win. It made me sick how many plays and points the 49ers left on the field. A loss is never good, but the experience can be good if they learn and use it to get better!

I anticipate games like this in the course of season. Now, do iWanna see it happen at the expense of our captains? Absolutely NOT! But the phrase “their defense travels” implies what? That’s correct! The optimal position to capture W by defensive or special teams. Quite frankly, we all know the struggle w/both teams offensives were offensive! And it took until final drive/final minute for Brock to DO ANYTHING at all (imo) to win. Not only that, but a walk off win in hostile environment that claim 2 of best…..dammit Moody! We all know that uKnow that we know…uKnow that! The word Foot is in the name of the sport!

Even with all these mistakes, the 49ers still had a chance to win in the end. Hopefully, if Robbie Gould is still available around week 12, the 49ers can sign him for one more playoff run. Did yall see what Garrett was doing to All World Trent Williams...🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽 Browns had more penaties called against them, a bogus one taking a touchdown off the board... & let's not forget the 3rd string QB gifting SF offense 7pts off an ill advised interception, or they would've only had 10 pts... CMC & Deebo wasn't lighting it up before their injuries... The Brown's were just the more physical team... Game probably wouldnt have been close had Watson, Chubb & Bitonio played... I would mention Conklin, but the rookie RT is playing lights out right now... Browns dont lose Chubb in the Steelers game & have Watson for the Ravens game, they very well could be undefeated too... But that's football...💯💯💯

Nothing can change my mind on Shanahan. He REFUSES to give up his choking habits! You have ball and a 1 point lead with less than 3 and a half minutes left in the game! Two sets of downs wins it all, and he chose to throw it on first down! When will he actually wisen up to his self-sabotage? He is the sole reason why I think that no matter what, he will never win a Super Bowl! I don't want to hear excuses. I want Shanahan to be better as a coach, not this repeating ride of getting a high on a win streak to flounder and look like as big of a pretender as Dallas when we face the actual top defense of the NFL!
